Saw Dr. Schramm for the first time today. So far, so good. Terry, the hygienist was excellent.

Let me start off by saying, I understand that based on zip codes, insurance amounts can and often…read moredo differ. Regardless of this fact, Northern Star is absolutely taking advantage of their clients and overcharging on all fronts and the photos- the first one being an estimate from a VIRAL consultation with northern star on August 14th, 2020, and the second photo being from an In-person consultation I just had today with Dakota Valley in Burnsville- pretty much speak for themselves. As you can see from the first photo, Northern Star wanted to code two of my lower wisdom teeth as 'completely bony impacted'. I don't claim to be a dentist or claim to have the knowledge an oral surgeon has, but 'completely bony impacted', if you look it up, literally simply means "a tooth is completely inside of the bone and has not erupted through the gum," as in, it is not able to be seen in the mouth..... both of my lower wisdom teeth that they were claiming were "completely bony impacted" were visible in my mouth and had erupted through the gums. Another very questionable aspect was the fact that northern star tried to tell me that my four wisdom teeth would take 45 mins to 1 hr to extract, which meant they would get to charge me for a whole lot more for general anesthesia. The place I just had a consultation today told me, max, the entire procedure will take FIFTEEN MINUTES, because both the top teeth were a simple extraction and the bottom two, one was surgical completely erupted and the other is surgical partially bony. Northern Star mistook me for a young, naive 25 year old who wouldn't be bothered to do my own research or question what they were coding my wisdom tooth extraction as, which in essence, would've meant I would be getting charged ALOT more. Oh well- they lost a client and maybe this review will make them think twice about trying to FRAUDULENTLY miscode in order to overcharge unassuming clientele. DO YOUR RESEARCH.

He couldn't believe that the 1st dentist I saw, said I needed 3 root canals & 3 crowns, when in fact I didn't need any of them! He was honest & saved me thousands of dollars!!!! I can't thank him and all the other HONEST Dr's out there. Their aren't many. Thank you so much!!!! I'll be referring friend's & family to you!!!

At first I figured, well, he's old, so he should know what he's doing....WRONG! After comparing the techniques utilized by the Dr. who corrected his botched root canal, this guy just needs to hang up his drill and retire. He didn't use a latex barrier around the tooth (this prevents bacteria-laden saliva from running down the hole and infecting the open canal) and generally wanted to just make chit-chat with you -while he was drilling! Dude, pay attention! I'm not here because we're friends, nor do I want to hear about your opinions of "people on the dole," you old-conservative twit! But I can recommend Dr Samantha Harris -she was incredibly thorough and professional. The kind of dentist that restores my faith in the fact that not all of them are D-bags....just far too many of them....

On my…read moresecond visit, I was told that my insurance was considered out of network BUT that they had MANY patients with my insurance and they would work to get most of my visit covered (it was just a routine cleaning and X-rays). the hygienist was lovely and very kind and sympathetic. I had to wait in the chair for a very long time after the cleaning to speak with the doctor (so long I had to make calls to cancel things and make alternate arrangements for my kids). When the dentist finally came in, she started a conversation about the high costs of running a dental practice?!? (We had only met one time before this). She then seemed shocked when she presented her very elaborate plan to me and I responded with "yes, lets please start with the most urgent and space treatment out because cost is a very serious concern and barrier". she then sent her hygienist in to ask me if I wanted veneers!!!!!! months later, a $500 bill arrived..... that did not at all match any of the estimates and promises I had been given for a simple cleaning and xrays. now that I am here looking through other reviews, I see that this is something other patients have experienced as well. truly unfortunate since it is a nice office with a great premise.

This office is a well-oiled machine and runs so incredibly smoothly. I was very impressed. Dr. Ballin was matter of fact but kind, however, during my procedure I became a bit scared due to medical PTSD from an extended hospital stay because of being caught in a house fire. Something triggered that, and I began to mildly hyperventilate. Rather than speak kindly and softly to me to try to calm me down, Dr. Ballin became irritated and snapped at me to calm down and not hyperventilate. This did not help. When I went to see him for the wisdom tooth removal consult, totally unprompted, he told me, "Because of how your throat is built, you would still have sleep apnea even if you weren't so heavy." Thanks for the comment on my weight, sir, but pretty sure I did not ask for your opinion either on that or on sleep apnea. He lost my business after this. I now use OMS. If you're thin, he's a great oral surgeon, but if you're "heavy" I'd suggest avoiding his practice since he seems to be unable to keep his thoughts on appearance to himself.
