It was also my first time using Thumbtack. I scrolled through some of the more "popular" and higher-priced photographers, who also had a ton of reviews, but did not feel that their style was what I was looking for. When Dustin contacted me, I wasn't sure in the beginning due to his sparse reviews; however, upon visiting his website and IG, I was impressed with his portfolio and the depth shown in all of his photos. However, most of the pictures were of outdoor weddings and my party was mostly an indoor event. But it was just days before my event, and his price was within my budget, so I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. On the day of the event, Dustin arrived even earlier than I did to the restaurant. Upon seeing him, he was already looking around, scoping out the venue, checking the lighting, and taking test shots. I gave him very little instructions to work with - all I wanted were some family portraits and candid shots of the party. From there, he snapped away for 3+ hours, always patient and in the background of a very chaotic Asian party, and I barely noticed he was there the whole time. Fast forward 9 days (5 business days), I received the thumb drive that I provided Dustin for the photos. He ended up producing and edited almost 400 photos, double what I had expected. As my husband and I scrolled through the pictures, it reconfirmed that we totally made the right choice going with him - he brought all of the care and detail and atmospheric elements of his romantic outdoor weddings to a loud, disorganized brunch party and made everything look timeless, precious and heartwarming. Not only that, he provided color AND black & white versions in both high AND low resolutions. That meant I got 4 copies of each shot to play around with! Dustin blew all of my expectations away from his professionalism the day of, his quick turnaround time, and ultimately, the amazing final photos. Hire this guy, you won't regret it!

It was a beautiful setting and Dustin did a great job of using the backdrop but not having it be everything. He captured the people in a perfect way. The angles and the layouts were great. The color composition was perfect. On top of all the normal photo stuff he just came across as a super down to earth guy who loves what he does. When he first got to the venue he handed me two bottles of champagne as a "congrats". He was super sneaky - he caught shots of things when I had no clue he was even close to me at the time. He was super laid back about the whole setting and was really into enjoying the space and the outdoors. I would definitely reach out to him if you're doing anything outside. Overall, we're super happy we chose him. Really nice guy and the perfect attitude for our wedding.

I never write heartfelt messages like this and rarely write reviews, but the sincerity of my words reflects the true effect she had. Vanessa's photographs go beyond beauty; they possess a timeless, artistic quality that captures the emotions and essence of the day. She is not simply a photographer; she crafts moments with her unique vision. The way she orchestrated our first look was incredibly special and couldn't have been more perfect. As an artist myself, I'm very particular, and I spent months searching for someone whose work would withstand the test of time. Her work is TIMELESS. Vanessa is a truly a master of her craft. When I say you would be fortunate to work with her, words couldn't be truer. Now... Let me speak of Vanessa as a person. She is remarkably supportive, generous, and present. Her care for me and her handling of everything before and during our wedding made me feel as if she were an additional maid of honor. Truly. She went above and beyond anyone's expectations. I am so, so immensely grateful for her and the comfort she provided. Her presence is grounding, loving, fun, and just completely on top of it. The way she gracefully managed numerous unforeseen logistics throughout the day is truly admirable. Even before receiving the photos, everyone--my mother, sisters, husband, and vendors--couldn't stop praising Vanessa; she was THE star of the day. Then, just 24 hours later, when she shared preview photos, everyone's jaws dropped to the floor. It's easy to say that my wedding wouldn't have been the same without her. Vanessa, you are an absolute gem among gems. I will work with you for any future photo shoots and I'm willing to travel long distances to make it happen!

She recently completed my family photos for Christmas 2016 and I couldn't be happier. We have four kids, one of which has special needs. Julia takes the time to demonstrate patience for all as well as comedic relief with our young boys when their attention wandered. She is great with families and animals alike, which shows in the quality of her work. On one occasion I had the opportunity to sit in her studio and pick photos for a leather bound book creation I was gifting. I saw how much detail she goes in to when editing out a slight flaw on my skin or a back wrinkle that I personally didn't like in a specific photo. This kind of editing takes a lot of time and skill. I appreciate this effort when I receive my photos and my skin looks flawless. The leather bound book was high quality and the pages were laid out well. Occasionally Julia has other professionals shoot large events with her to capture more angles and moments. However, Julia is the only person that edits the final version of the photographs she delivers to you. When you consider how many events she is doing, the families she sees in and out of the studio, and on top of that she is hand editing every photo she provides you, it takes time. Communication is important. Express your expectations up front. If there is something you are unsure of through the process, let her know. She has always been reasonable with us and when we communicate better there are no surprises. With that being said, I will continue to hire Julia to be my family's personal paparazzi. I love Julia's photojournalistic style and her sophisticated and delicate attention to detail is on point. Thank you Julia for another year of beautiful memories for our gallery.

From the owner: Documentary Family, Event and Wedding Photographer…read more I believe family photos should be real representations of your everyday life. Your photos should tell a story beyond the traditional family portrait. You want honest representations of who your family is, not coordinated outfits and cheesy grins. I specialize in family photojournalism and visual story telling. Photos are meant to spark memories and evoke happiness. They are to remind you of the time you played with your kids in a heap of Legos on the floor, not the stress of having them cooperate at a family portrait session. Ask yourself how do you want your children to remember you? What is the legacy you want to leave behind for them? Is it a hallway of the same photo every year, where everyone is just a little older or a collection of grainy smartphone photos? Your everyday life is beautiful and every moment is worthy of a amazing photograph. So let's make photography that tells your true story for generations to come together!
