Upon entering the exam room, the doctor's verbal and physical mannerisms felt brash and uncaring. I showed him the areas requiring treatment, yet he insisted that I personally mark all of the treatment areas myself, stating, "I don't care how your legs look," before leaving the room. Regardless of intent, such a statement was inappropriate and lacked the empathy and professionalism patients deserve from a physician. When I calmly expressed that his manner seemed unkind, rather than addressing the concern or offering clarification, he cancelled my appointment altogether. Personal frustrations, if present, should never influence patient care or the overall clinical experience. Unfortunately, this visit fell far below the standard of professionalism and bedside manner I had anticipated and previously experienced.

Prior to finding the VIP Vein Center, I had visited a general surgeon for an unsightly, annoying,…read morebulging vein on my calf (no pain). They performed an ultrasound, which took over 45 minutes, on one leg only, while lying down (more on that later). I *almost* had a procedure of which I honestly had no idea what they were going to do. I never went through with it; it was a gut feeling. I continued to wear compression stockings, which made my legs feel great, while berating myself for what I thought was simply a cosmetic issue. A year later, still uncomfortable with this vein (I cycle and run and it would bulge further; plus, how does one even consider compression stocking while cycling and running?), I searched and found VIP. Contrast their ultrasound: less than 15 minutes?, both legs, while standing up. THAT made much more sense. Their tech was mighty efficient. When I mentioned how good my legs felt with the compression stockings, Dr. Tandon brightened up. Apparently, I had been dealing with fatigue for years, without ever attributing it to my poor vein circulation. In fact, I attributed it to aging. Takeaway lesson: don't make the same assumption (I am 65). I have been so happy with both legs having had radio frequency ablation, and at the end of all that, removing that unsightly vein with AP and Sclero. It's almost as if that wasn't even the big issue after all. I can attest to how great I feel--able to run, cycle, hike, and more, with no fatigue. Dr. Tandon is kind, intelligent, answers questions, and is very, very skilled in his work. The office staff is friendly and cheerful. It is well worth your time considering VIP Vein Clinic. The previous day I was at the gym and that morning i was in the ER with a huge clot in my groin area and possibly a few minutes away from things going completely downhill. I was going through treatment for a so-called calf muscle tear by a so-called experienced orthopedic surgeon who completely misdiagnosed the situation. And on the evening of March 7th, I was at the gym when my leg swelled real bad, almost double the size. Long-story short I had to be rushed to the ER the next day where Dr. Herscu was the Vascular Surgeon on duty. I thank God every day since for having me there in his presence that day. Dr. Herscu is a very pleasing personality with incredible bedside manners. Doctors seldom teach you in terms that you can understand. Be assured that you will not only understand your situation better, but will also be heard completely. Most doctors like to see their watch and want to get done as soon as possible.
