I thought it fitting to do my 100th *yelp review on my Alma Matter, Central Catholic…read more I can't say enough about CCHS. As a strong and positive presence in this otherwise drab end of Toledo, CCHS has really improved its neighborhood and own campus over the last few years. CCHS is the largest co-ed Catholic High School in Toledo, with nearly 2000 students. It accelerates in special education as well as college preparatory classes, as well as sports, the arts, and computer technology. CCHS offers a plethora of scholarships and work-study options, and is open to students of all backgrounds. Incoming students are also given a MacBook for their high school studies and the personal attention that only a caring, intentional faculty and staff can provide. As of late, CCHS has opened its new Varsity-sized football stadium next to its college-sized gymnasium. Central also just opened its own astronomy center, which includes a Moon Rock and observatory. CCHS is truly above and beyond any other school in Toledo. Go Irish!

Gooo Irish! I'm a class of 2001 graduate and loved my time there. They were just jealous :) During my time there women's basketball ruled and we never won the Irish Knight football game. The students here have a lot of school spirit as well. As for classes and teachers, Dr. Monford's AP European History class was a beast, the block english/history class with Mrs. Best and Mr. Clark my sophomore year is hands down the best class. Homecoming is fun as well (I was in Top Five for Homecoming Queen) and the Super Fella week is another highlight. I haven't visited recently, but hear that we are now D3 football champs and have finally won the Irish Knight from St. Francis.

As a social worker I spend a lot of time going in and out of Detroit public schools. I see some…read morethings that really make the hair stand up on the back of my neck. And then, occassionally, I see a few gems. This school is one of those gems. UPA and University Prep High School both use project-based learning so that kids can really focus on the things that interest them. All students do regular internships which are supervised by a local field instructor and a teacher (they get school credit for the internship). This gives them a chance to refine their interests and get exposed to the work world. But, a few things to note. UPA is a bit overrated in terms of it's academic rigor. Although it is a world above most of the DPS schools I visit, not all graduates are going to be prepared to start at a mid-range or top tier university. I've seen kids advanced from grade to grade (particularly in math) who really don't have the basics down well enough. And, another important thing to remember about UPA is that their teaching approach does not work for all students. Some kids need a lot more structure and will flounder when given so much academic freedom and responsibility for their own education. Parents of UPA students need to stay in close contact with the teachers and review their student's work on a very regular basis. Overall, this is a great school. The campus is well laid out, the rooms are clean and things are in repair. There's not a lot of violence. The teachers and staff are very good at communicating with parents and they take a personal interest in their students.

I think its good for the city. Nice looking charter school. We went to take my god daughter b-day…read morecupcakes. You sign in and have to call to confirm. They require the kids to do an expedition project every month which is a good thing for kids to do in my opinion helps them to discover something new. You have to stand in a long line of cars just to pick up your kid but that's better than leting them run around and risk someone taking them. Great School Donate today!!!

The school is lame and some of the teachers are very disrespectful. the school is already built…read morelike a jail and they treat the students like they are in one. The teachers allow students to get bullied and don't say anything about it but when someone is showing too much skin they get in trouble for it, that is very unacceptable. When a student hits another student and the other student hits them back to defend themselves both of the students get suspended. I find that very wrong and unfair. Also the food is not good it has no seasoning and it's just nasty they need to do better. Some teachers target certain students to get them in trouble I find that very weird.

As far as public schools go I would give Monroe High a 4/5, but there are private schools in Monroe…read morethat accomplish far more with far less money per student. There is a discipline problem in this school. The students are treated like children instead of young adults, which leads to the bad students running wild and the good students being treated like they're in prison. Each student is seen as dollar signs and they are treated accordingly. There are some great teachers in this school, as well as some average ones. Sadly there are also some truly awful teachers, but because of the way the teacher's union works newer, good teachers are fired and the bad ones stay another year, wasting our money and stealing from our student's education. The programs and technology in this school are awesome. Every student will work with tech and the teachers have lots of tech tools. There are lots of cool things, like the robotics club. All of the shops have the machinery to train our young people in the trades. For a public school this one is not bad, but if you ever have the chance to send your son or daughter to a charter school or private school I would definitely recommend that over any public school, including this one.
