Purchasing my first home in Washington, DC was truly a journey, but one that was absolutely worth…read moreit thanks to David Toaff, his team at First Home Mortgage, and my realtor Terinee Bonds. I was originally introduced to David through Emily Atwood back in May 2019. After a minor setback, I was reconnected with him by Mr. Bill Milko in June 2022, and from that point forward the process officially began. From June 29, 2022 to December 11, 2022, this six-month journey taught me patience, discipline, and the importance of having the right people in your corner. At first, I found a condo in Northwest DC that I absolutely loved. The price was around $220,000, which was amazing for DC, but unfortunately FHA would not approve it because the HOA reserves did not meet the required percentage threshold. While it was disappointing at the time, everything happens for a reason because I later found another property for $325,000 that turned out to be the right fit for me. I was also approved for the DC HPAP First-Time Homebuyer Program along with DC Open Doors, which were both incredibly helpful programs for low-to-middle income homebuyers. I highly recommend anyone looking to purchase in DC to explore those opportunities. There were definitely bumps along the way. In August, I had to resolve my 2021 tax bill, which became part of the process. Throughout everything, David remained patient, professional, knowledgeable, and personable. He genuinely cared and always kept my best interest at heart. He also stayed on me about my spending habits, especially my DoorDash spending, making sure I stayed financially on track to successfully close. David also made sure everything was taken care of through his amazing team, Josh and Danielle. They consistently checked in with me through calls and emails at least three times a week, making sure I understood every step of the process. That level of communication and support made a huge difference because buying a home can feel overwhelming, especially as a first-time buyer. They truly walked me through the process from beginning to end and helped make things much less stressful than they could have been. What really stood out to me about David was his personality. He is truly a people person and just an overall down-to-earth guy who genuinely believes in helping people achieve homeownership. You can tell this is more than just business for him. He wants to see people succeed and become homeowners, especially those who may not think it's possible for them. That kind of authenticity matters during a major life decision like buying a home. Terinee Bonds, who I originally met through Redfin in 2019 and who is now with Keller Williams, was equally amazing. She consistently checked in, advocated for me, and helped guide me through every obstacle that came up along the way. Like David, she was personable, caring, patient, and truly invested in helping me succeed throughout the process. In the end, I only had to bring about $3,250 to closing, and I also received seller credits, which made a huge difference. I am beyond grateful for David, Josh, Danielle, and Terinee. I highly recommend First Home Mortgage and Terinee Bonds to anyone looking to purchase a home, especially first-time homebuyers navigating the DC market. Their professionalism, honesty, communication, patience, and dedication truly made this dream possible. He will really work for his clients and it's worth it. FIVE STARS!!! Top recommendation! Call Carolyn!!! I…read morereached out to Carolyn after my unexpected and ugly divorce, feeling completely overwhelmed. I desperately wanted to keep our family home so my kids could have stability in the only house they've ever known--but I didn't think I could afford a buyout. Before finding Carolyn, I had some discouraging experiences with other loan officers--one mocked me for being a federal employee and said I was a risk; another dismissed my questions with "you can Google that." By the time I connected with Carolyn, I was exhausted and despondent. From our very first call, everything changed. Carolyn's incredibly knowledgeable and knows how to navigate the complexities of loans (and divorce) - but what truly sets her apart is her heart. She is one of the kindest, most compassionate people I've ever worked with. She patiently answered every single question I had (and there were many!), never once making me feel like a burden. She kept me informed every step of the way, handled every hurdle with grace, and stayed fully engaged from start to finish. Most importantly, she gave me confidence. Instead of feeling lost or intimidated, I felt empowered--because she took time to explain everything clearly and truly acted as my advocate. To my amazement, Carolyn showed me that I could afford to buy out my ex - and helped me get a great rate! She guided me through every step of the process with care and professionalism. She came highly recommended by my financial advisor, and now I completely understand why. She didn't just help me get a loan--she helped me keep my home and create stability for my kids during one of the hardest times in my life. If you're looking for someone who's both a top financial professional AND a genuinely caring human being, CALL CAROLYN! She's a brilliant loan officer/fairy godmother - and I'm forever grateful.

I got the owner himself, after just two rings, a guy, with more than 20 years experience, a human being. Heath Bourne listened to what I was looking for in a refi and within an hour sent me an email with three written estimates from different lenders, each with an interest rate significantly lower than what I'm paying now! I am a person who asks a lot of questions. This can test the patience of and even annoy some people (yes, I'm talking to you, mechanics and doctors!!). I was going to say my wife, but thought otherwise on social media. Anyway, I get it. Time is money. Tough customers take time. But Heath answered all of my questions with professional courtesy and patience through multiple phone calls, emails and requests for revised estimates that would drive most brokers nuts. No wonder my online research revealed Potomac Trust Mortgage has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau (https://www.bbb.org/us/va/alexandria/profile/mortgage-broker/potomac-trust-mortgage-llc-0241-142453140). When we had an offer accepted, one condition was that we close in three weeks. Within 24 hours of the offer being accepted, they had a lender for us, initial mortgage estimate documents, and a list of everything they needed. Heather walked us through everything, and was so responsive and prompt. We literally went from accepted offer to mortgage signed in about a week! (It also helps if you make sure you have all your documents ready to go from your end, and they will give you a list of what you need). Everything we did with PTM was electronic, so we weren't worried about running to the office to sign anything. They were accessible via email and phone, and even when we had what was probably a stupid question, they were happy to answer it. When I came across Ken, I was sad, angry, disappointed and I felt totally defeated. I called Ken one afternoon and he sat on the other end of the phone and listened to me explain my horrible situation. When I was through explaining a VERY LONG list of problems I had ran into , he simply said , send me your information. I can do loans that many people can't , I can help you. Keep in mind I had dealt with 4 different loan officers that included 4 denials .... After I hung up, I still wasn't sure if I could endure what I had endured the past 4 months and still be somewhat sane. I'm glad that I said to myself, one more try Jamie ... just one more . So I sent him all my info, as I had every document you could think of right at hand . He pinpointed what I needed to do . ONE THING. (TAXES) One simple thing . I did that. Throughout the process of clearing up what was wrong ( took about 3 weeks ) he stayed in touch with me , giving me updates on everything . To my surprise, I woke up one morning to an email from him with a pre approval letter! My excitement was beginning to return ! I found a home . Only it was more then what I originally asked for . The home was in a really good neighborhood and had 3 bids already. I needed a larger approval amount . I emailed Ken ON A SUNDAY asking if I could increase my loan amount so I could put in my bid ... HE ANSWERED ME WITHIN MINUTES ! The answer was YES! I put in my bid. Sellers took a few days to decide, and accepted mine!! On roughly August 7th. I was under contract :) Ken and his team went right to work . I don't know what happens on their end , but I was kept fully informed of every step I needed to know . I would email a question, got an answer within 30 minutes . I must have drove them insane, as I had a lot of questions. Never once did any of the team make me feel as though I was bothering them . Long story short , this last effort , was actually effortless! I closed on my dream home today !! Right in Kens office! His processor Heather was one of the most supportive , knowledgeable people I have ever came to know . Kens knowledge, experience and genuine concern for this transaction was amazing. Please , if you want to buy a home , you would be insane not to contact him and begin your process . You will not be disappointed !!! Thank you Ken, Heather and Tammy for your help . You truly are great people ! I will tell everyone that will listen how experienced yet compassionate you all are . I could never thank you enough!!! You guys ROCK!!!!
