Aux P'tits Oignons - Wow what a deli experience! Look at the table itself.

Wow, New York delis, eat your heart out! For something on a…read morecompletely different level, y'all should experience a Quebec deli like I did in downtown Lévis at Aux P'tits Oignons which translates to "with little onions". I opted for a soup and sam deal that was spectacular and had me moaning and groaning with delight. Sous-marinà larillle of duck (duck rillete), homemade confit onions, Tomatoes, laive is what I got with translation. It's a duck pate sam and had some kind of a sweet confit in it which complimented the pate nicely. Along with that I got a hot bowl of cream of carrot soup that was super creamy and flavourful. There were so many yummy choices it was hard to choose including plenty of cold cooked items like quiche that you could re heat. Love the retro interior here too with shelves well stocked with deli preserves along with pasta and Italian tomatoes. But instead of coming off as kitschy and touristy, this places feels and looks genuinely like a deli should. Love the handmade solid wood family size large table with a few chairs to eat at while here. That along with a big smile from my server as she laid down the China dishes and metal utensils for me as if I was eating at her house. Super friendly server was patient with me speaking English (and silly high school French) and continued the trend of convincing me how nice and warm the Québecers are in general. I guess that's just the roll around here! Well worth coming here for any reason at all.

A small yet excellent selection of other items to take home and eat, including local beers. If you ever open up a small delicatessen/store/bakery, please copy this one.

The secret is clearly out: the bright little room on Rue Saint-Jean was busy and filled almost entirely with fellow visitors, so arrive early if you want first pick before the favourites vanish. The croissant is the reason to come. The lamination is handsome, but good looks are common enough. What sets this one apart is the flavour: a clean, unmistakable richness of butter that lingers well after the last flaky shard. Toronto, my home city, has no shortage of beautiful croissants, and many are very good. Bias aside, this one edged them out, if only by a small margin, and in pastry small margins are everything. A worthy pilgrimage for any croissant devotee. My only wish is for a calmer moment in which to savour it.

Patisserie Chouquette is the one spot in QC that truly rocked my world. I went three days in a row…read more(on my 4 day trip) and they were consistently amazing. It gets quite busy during the day, but they are always replenshing and baking fresh pastries and chouquettes. It is a cute, small cafe with seating, wifi, and water. There is no restroom. It is an open kitchen concept where you can see the staff making the pastries! You must try their choux/chouquettes! They rotate the flavors everyday. Here is everything I tried: 1) Choquette: I got a plain one for 50c, and it was light and airy with a nice sweet sprinkle of sugar on top. A great choquette. 2) Earl grey blueberry choquette: Same texture as the unfilled, but stuffed with a blueberry compote that adds a fresh tangy, tart flavor and an earl grey cream that is floral and fragrant. So delicious and the pairing of flavors worked well. 3) Chocolate raspberry choquette: This inside filling I liked less than (2), but still pretty good. The chocolate is rich and follows the same texture as the earl grey cream. The raspberry compote again is tart, fresh, and true raspberry. 4) Blueberry Scone: I enjoyed this. It is huge, and the edges are always the best part. A nice hard sturdy crust with a sprinkling of sugar. Nice blueberries throughout too! The only thing is that the middle is a bit too bready for my liking, but nothing major so I'd still recommend this item to try. 5) Chocolatine: It is a nice croissant, but nothing special in my opinion. The chocolate is nicely soft and melted though, which I appreciated since many chocolatine come with a cold hard chocolate rod inside. 6) Pistachio Strawberry Choquette: Another amazing bite, I love the pistachio cream though I wish there were more of it. The strawberry compote overpowered the pistachio cream, so there was too much strawberry too little pistachio 7) Iced Matcha: It comes unsweetened so you can ask them for either brown sugar or maple syrup. Honestly, I do not recommend the matcha. It was quite...not good..to be frank. 8) Iced Strawberry Matcha: This was not better. Still wouldn't recommend this.
