My opinion about Todd Correlli was very suspect due to what I believe was a conflict of interest…read more This is just my opinion but when my son attended the Elements wilderness program last summer it was recommended to me that Dr. Correlli come out and conduct a neuropsychology evaluation, in the field, at the cost of $3500 for a couple of hours worth of work. I understood from the Educational Consultant and Licensed Clinical Social Worker that this is what was necessary to get to better understand my sons behavioral problems. After spending the money on the evaluation, which included an MMPI-A report, Dr. Correlli concluded that my son had no serious behavior or personality disorder but was mildly depressed. Wouldn't you too be depressed if your parents took you away from a summer in Southern California to hike in the mountains of Southern Utah, with a bunch of drug addicts, which by the way my son was not!!! Anyway, despite the only diagnosis Dr. Correlli concluded was that my son was mildly depressed he "Strongly Recommended" that my son go directly to a Therapeutic Boarding School when finished at Elements. I was able to get a second opinion on Dr. Correlli's report and MMPI-A analysis with a Dr. Richard LeVak, one of the authors of the MMPI-A test. Dr. LeVak called me after looking at it and said, congratulations your son is "normal". Unfortunately, I came away believing that these "tough love" programs for struggling teens are not well regulated nor based on scientific studies with p-values. This can lead to referrals that may have a conflict of interest when people "strongly recommend" a $140,000 per year Therapeutic Boarding. One size does not fit all, ask questions and get second opinions otherwise you could get taken advantage of. Fortunately, my son came directly home from Elements after 8 weeks is enrolled in a public school on ADD meds, with an IEP and help with an educational therapists and has 4 A's and 2 B's. If you research the reviews of these Therapeutic Boarding Schools you will be horrified by some of the abuse and poor education they get away with.

The emotions it has caused me have eroded my emotional and mental strength. I sought help and found Stephanie Mulford. Her bio says one of her areas of expertise is life-altering illnesses. I thought she was what I needed since my life changed drastically. I shared very vulnerable and private information with her. I asked her to keep it confidential, and she agreed since it wasn't part of the reason I was seeking treatment. However, I received an email about everything she had shared with my insurance, and there it was, the piece of information I had shared with her. I feel violated, lied to, naked, and utterly vulnerable. We all have the right to our privacy. The reason I saw her was for PTDS; that was all she needed to submit to the insurance to get paid. She could have also shared that I have Major Depression. She submitted excessive information. I only saw her three times. She violated my privacy without need and without informing me. Not that the information was bad, it isn't at all, but it was mine, and it had nothing to do with PTDS. Stephanie broke the trust I had in her and in therapy in general. I won't ever be able to trust again, and I won't get the help I need. Apart from that, she doesn't have the necessary knowledge to treat people with mental issues. I paid for very expensive sessions to hear "aha," "yeah," "hmm." I suggest you all review your medical records to see what she is sharing (unnecessarily) without discussing it with you. Whatever she submits to the insurance stays in your records forever, and it can interfere with future treatments and jobs, since insurance tries hard not to cover mental health. I don't know how the rest of the team is doing, but I'll sure keep away from that place.

I love being able to learn the same things my husband is learning in HIS recovery and be able to apply those principles to my own life to improve myself. Learning about healthy boundaries and codependency has taught me that the way I was reacting to his addictive behavior - being constantly angry and making threats - was unproductive. The Ranch helped my husband learn coping skills and really deal with the anger, resentments, and insecurities he was experiencing and trying to numb himself from - and he's achieved nearly three years of sobriety now. The staff at the support group really get to the heart of issues that we humans deal with in our family relationships and help with many helpful examples of a better way to deal with each other. My husband and I are both so much healthier now because of the recovery knowledge we've applied to our lives and continue to learn. We can calmly discuss differences without getting overly emotional, which has been wonderful. I will forever be grateful for the Ranch for helping us both heal and then come back together to have an emotionally healthy relationship!
