This law office represented me for Wrongful Termination from my employer. The employer had no facts and their witnesses contradicted themselves and each other. It would have been cheaper if I had fought the case by myself. At least I'd have made logical arguments against the prosecution's witnesses about their contradiction. As you can probably tell, the attorney that they had assigned to me lost the case. He would literally show up at the hearing and remain silent for 8 hours. The first thing he would say at each hearing would be "I didn't get a chance to read the case" or some excuse. This should have been a warning to me but I was desperate for advice and didn't see it. He was not in my line of work but you didn't have to be to argue contradictions or try to argue that witnesses's stories didn't make sense. For example, the witnesses claimed that I had done something (not illegal but against company policy). The witnesses own evidence had cleared me of any wrong doing but they let me go because 'they couldn't trust me'. Thank God that this was not a criminal matter, I'd be incarcerated with the help of these "experts" I paid a $1500 retainer (which was more than what an unemployed person can afford). He said that this would cover the fees. Furthermore, he knew I had lost my job and his rookie team was unable to fight them. Yet his office felt no need to send me invoices and let me know when my retainer had been used up. He just went on billing me, as if I had the money to pay. After losing, I was unemployed for a year. I kept his office in the loop about being unemployed and tried to tell them I'd pay their fees as soon as I land a job. As soon as I got a job, I called to have payment arrangements. They agreed to the payment arrangements and then they filed a bank levy and filed motions to garnish my wages. I hired him for Employment Law and they clearly misrepresented his firm. The attorney who showed up was a rookie (possibly a recent graduate). At every court hearing, the assigned attorney would always have some excuse how he was so busy with another case that he could not review the materials. Not only has the offices taken no action to represent me correctly nor have they done anything to appeal the verdict. If you wish to retain someone who will NOT fight fiercely for your rights and DOES NOT has your best interests at heart, look no further. read more

I WISH I COULD GIVE JEF HENNINGER NEGATIVE STARS This guy is a nightmare. I found on the Better Business Bureau that what he did to me, he has done to others. I am a single mother of modest means. I initiated divorce proceedings, and then my life became too complicated to continue. Jef has a very bullying manner and he insisted he could not postpone the divorce (something I have since done on my own and which another attorney told me yesterday is very simple to do. Imagine that.) He took $2000 from me, which I could barely afford, and told me it would likely be enough to cover the divorce. However, without sending me any invoices or letting me know, he racked up another almost $2000 in charges. And the things he bills for! There's actually a line item for a "conference" for a day I drove to his office and dropped off paper work! Yes, I'm sure in the retainer it says that he bills additionally at his exorbitant, greedy and underserved rate, but like most lay people, I didn't scrutinize the retainer. I went by what he said. Furthermore, he knew I had been evicted and had no job. Yet he felt no need to send me invoices and let me know when my retainer had been used up. He just went on billing me, as if I had the money to pay. I have logged a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and have been in touch with the New Jersey Bar Association. This man needs to be stopped from charging people who have no resources without communicating with them. This is actually discussed on the New Jersey Bar Association website. they talk at length about what is considered "reasonable." And they say "New Jersey litigants who believe their lawyers have charged unreasonably high fees and who have not been able to resolve the fee dispute privately may request that the dispute be arbitrated before a county-based Fee Arbitration Committee." I am contemplating lodging a complaint against him with the NJ Bar Association, but unfortunately, I don't have his deep pockets and cannot afford representation. I called The Law Office of Jef Henninger, Esq. at 732-383-6242 on June 10, 2019 about wall dispute case, I had free consultation with a lawyer's name Frank P Paruolo on June 11, 2019, I met Mr. Frank promised me that my case will cost $1500 not exceed $2500, he will file my case the following day also he will request to get my legal fee back during the case also asked me to pay $600 to start the case, he gave me an appointment to go back to his office in Jersey City the following day Wednesday June 12 at 2pm to give him more pictures, I went to the office appointment on Wednesday Mr., Frank was not there never answer his number that was provided by him on his business card which is (201-400-1613) the following Mon 6-17-2019 I called the main number which is 732-383-6242, stating that Mr. Frank is no longer with the firm (Quit or fired) and we will assign another lawyer for me, finally a lawyer's name is David Nusrio arrived at 1:50pm, I waited for him outside for long time in his office, finally he called me in his office introduced him self, gave his business card than he stating that he appologies can not take my case because he never deal with this kind of cases before also the legal fee as promised from the previous lawyer (Frank P Paruolo) which is maximum $2500 was wrong information it should be between $12,000 to $18,000, So Mr. David Nusrio promised me to refund my $600 back to my credit card. on Friday 7/19/2019 I called the firm to find out why I didn't get my credit back yet? same day at 4:37 PM the firm sent email with invoice that I owed them $50 instead they give my money back. read more

Jef Henniger's associate based in Jersey City who helped me with my criminal case didn't know what he was doing. He was late to my court hearings, not being helpful at all. I'm freakin' out about my case and he was making me even more uncomfortable. One day we were waiting for the hearing and he continuously sighed and looked at his watch saying that he needed to leave soon. Aren't you my lawyer?? He doesn't even have business cards, and lying to the judge that he "ran out of them" when he was asked for it. So I need a Lawyer. I called his office. Spoke to his secretary, She said let me get one of the Lawyers. I waited on hold Jef answered the phone. He introduced himself as Jef. I explained to him what I need and where the situation has led up to. He told me what the retainer would be. I told him I don't have the whole retainer. He was like no problem, you can pay half now and the rest in a few weeks. I felt confident about hiring him. But I told his secretary that i just wanted to make sure I have the funds in the account as I didn't want anything to bounce and I would call back. after many times trying to log in, I figured I would give it a rest and try after a few hours. But Jef called me blocked on a private number. He told me he doesn't feel comfortable with my case. He feels he couldn't handle the case. I said ok. That was It. Nice guy, Sounded like he could take care of business, But then doesn't want to take the case. So I don't know. So this Is why i left 3 stars. I strongly warn anyone about using Jef Henninger. I kick myself now in retrospect because all the signs were there. But I just wasn't in the proper frame of mind to see them. My problems began with my first consultation. I came to Jef with an issue about trying to get a DUI issue resolved. I was pulled over after leaving a restaurant and arrested for being slightly over the legal limit. I made a terrible mistake and it had grave implications to my livelihood and family's welfare (because I am driver for UPS). After my arrest, I met with Jef Henninger at his office. I wanted to spend this consultation (for which I paid him 300 dollars) discussing my options. Instead, Jef spent the entire hour talking about his fees. He asked me no questions about my case whatsoever. What he did advise me on was to call my credit card company and request a credit line increase so that I could afford to retain him. He actually had me remove my credit card. Then, on his speaker phone, called the 800 # on the back. And then he coached me how to request a credit line, telling me to lie to my Credit Card company by saying I wanted an increase because I got a second job and was making more salary. (BTW, he made several racist remarks about the Indian operator at the credit card company) While I was on this phone call, Jef took other calls in front of me. And displayed what was a like a skit for a mercenary lawyer. He told two different callers that he refused to talk to them unless they paid right there on the phone with their credit card. The harshness of his manner was stunning. Fair enough, I thought, perhaps he is overly concerned about being paid, and didn't want to dole out free advice. I cut him some slack and looked past the callousness which he addressed his callers. Jumping ahead in my case. At my trial in Freehold NJ, Jef Henniger showed up an hour late and the trial had to be rescheduled for 1 month later. The following weekend, I received a bill from Jef Hennniger charging me for his court appearance fee, even though he was late (and the trial had to be rescheduled). When I balked about paying this, Jef got verbally aggressive. And threatened to sue me. At which point, I finally wised up. And stopped using Jef's services (after wasting 5000 dollars for nothing). And now -- tragically/comically -- Jef is suing me for 1500 dollars because I dropped him. Saying that he racked up hours of work on my behalf. All of this is a farce. And the only reason I am writing this is to warn anyone who might think of working with him. See for yourself his manner on the telephone and trust what I've written here. I am in the process of filing a formal complaint against him with NJ Bar association. I would strongly advise you to do you research with the bar association. I would bet my life that many, many others have filed formal complaints against Jef Henninger. He should not be allowed to practice any longer. read more

After reading the reviews for Jef, I just had to write my own. It seems like most of the reviewers never actually hired him as a lawyer and are only complaining about his demeanor on the phone. Well, let me tell you my story. After an unfortunate alleged DV situation, I received a visit from DYFS or whatever their new name is. This visit was so unexpected that I did everything 100% wrong. The case worker assured me everything would be ok but I might have to complete some counseling with my boyfriend and everything would be ok. He said that they obviously want my daughter to stay with me and blah blah blah more bull. I knew he talked to my landlord because I was listening through the wall and heard all her lies about my household. He told me he was the weekend guy and that another worker would come speak to me. Something about that man and his inability to make eye contact got to me. I hit google and saw Jef's blog, I liked what he wrote so I added his name to my list of people to call. It was already night and every other lawyer I called had an answering machine or an assistant who didn't know the law. However, Jef answered his phone. I told him my situation and he listened and treated me respectfully. I was the first one to bring up payment because I knew I needed a lawyer. He told me $1500 retainer and because I called early and there is no case in court already I probably won't have to pay more because he would stop it before they start a case. Ok, so I felt safe since Jef sent a letter to them and told them all communication has to be through him. All was good until one day I heard my doorbell ring and looked out the window and saw a police car. I called Jef in panic and he walked me through what to say. The case worker was with the police and said they just wanted to "follow up." I was scared for my life because I have never been in this situation before. Jef told me word for word what to say. Oh man, these people tried their hardest to intimidate me and force their way in. These people were so confident and as soon as I said the name Jef Henninger her face dropped! They knew him! Jef helped me through and they left. Or so I thought! The case worker came back and tried to sweet talk her way in. I called Jef again and he walked me through what to say to her to make her leave. After that I was in a panic and shaking and crying and Jef calmed me down. He also gave me legal advice that was not part of what I paid him for. Listen, whether you hire Jef or not, get a lawyer as soon as you know DYFS is investigating you! Innocent or not these people have different rules. Once they clear you for the initial allegation they are on a fishing expedition to find ANY reason to take your child. That is how they get paid. Do not fall for their lies. They will tell you as soon as you do this or that they will go away. But no! You are only digging yourself deeper. $1500 is a small price to pay for my child's safety. You do NOT want your child in state custody. As for the people who said Jef was rude to them on the phone, it was probably because they were trying to get more than a consultation for free. They were probably asking for legal advice, which is what he gets PAID to do! So of course he's not going to give you for free something that people like me pay for! I used Jef twice. The first time on a minor matter that he handled with out problem. The second time when my son was arrested in a bar fight in Red Bank was a different story. I am disappointed with the work Jef provided for the money he was paid. I have several issues with Jef (that had to do with his harsh treatment of my son) but I will only discuss a glaring issue pertaining to his "lawyering" skills. Jef never returned phone calls. And he waited to very last minute (1 day before our trial) to meet with us to discuss the case. We had paid him $7500 dollars up until that point and he did no work on the case. I called him twice a day for a week straight to arrange an meeting. And he never bothered to return my call. He did send me an email to say he hurt his back. He is the kind of lawyer that flies by the seat of his pants. And does no pre-trial preparation or research. His total fee was 15K and if I am correct, I would say fairly that he put no more than a total of 3 hours of "work" into the case. Nice work if you can get it. I'm still paying off the loan I took to pay Jef and my son got pressured into signing a plea bargain that leaves him with a felony on his record for 10 years. Shop around. These guys (and gal) did an amazing job on my divorce case. Really thought I was done for because my ex hired this really big law firm. They are well known for destroying people. Jef's team fought back hard and had them against the ropes. Some guy I don't even know that well suggested I hire them and I'm really glad I followed that advice! Remember, you get what you pay for. Just an FYI, Jef Henninger has a $2000 non-refundable retainer. He is the only attorney that I have ever come across that has this policy. My wife and I contracted Jef as he stated he knew everyone within the judicial system in my county and that he was confident in his ability, even though he's somewhat new as a lawyer. After going a different route with a more experienced attorney, Jef refused to refund my retainer. He refused to provide any documentation stating what work he did for me and how he could justify the $2000 retainer. I now have to have my current attorney file for arbitration of sorts to try to get me a portion of my retainer back. I would recommend avoiding this guy at all costs. His scare tactics and long list of friends he has in the legal system don't really jive too well. For an attorney with just a few years experience, he sure knows a lot of people. I'm writing this review even though I am 100% positive that someone from this office is going to go behind me and say that everything that I'm writing is false, but this is not true. If I was able to give a lesser rating than one star, I would. I hired an attorney from this firm based on the reviews and totally regret this decision. Currently, I have an active child custody case in north NJ. When I hired them, I hadn't seen my son in over 2 months because his mother decided not to return him back to me and I had a court date and needed a legal representative and hired someone from this office. I was advised that someone would be assigned and luckily they had an office two blocks from the court house. No one called me to discuss the case or even prep for the hearing. On the day of the hearing, my wife and I showed up but our attorney didn't. We called the office and was told to wait. We waited about 40 minutes and later got a call saying that they called the court house and got another date. They also told me that another atty would be assigned to me. Well, I missed a day from work and I still did not get my son back. By the next court date, an atty was assigned. I had spoken to him briefly over the phone and on the day of the hearing he told me his plans for handling the case (which sounded brilliant). Instead of going before a judge, our lawyer spoke to my son's mother's atty and came back with the worst possible plan ever that I did not agree with. I told him exactly what I wanted, which was pretty fair. My atty agreed with the plan, went back to talk to the other atty again but we got nowhere. While they were in a private room talking, my wife and I could hear them both laughing and telling jokes. Both attys came back decided that it would be best that they speak to the judge. This was done and my atty came back with yet another plan that was in favor of my son's mom. I decided to go before the judge instead. When we went before the judge, my atty openly threw me under the bus, downplayed the fact that my son's mother had not returned my son to me and basically supported her atty and her case instead of mine. By this time the judge was irritated, hours of wasted time had gone by and another court date was yet again rescheduled. My atty and did not talk to each other at all afterwards but yet he chose to wait around. Days went by and I received a letter from the court with a new court date. Two days before the date, I got a call from the office saying that both my atty and my son's mother's atty called each other and post-phoned the date yet again because of their personal schedule. Mind you, we we had zero communication with this atty and the office. My wife has since called the Jef's office and asked that he be removed from the case. Today, they gave us a bill for $2,100. There are charges on here that aren't even legit. For example, I've been charged for not showing up for court even though I've gone to all of them. I was charged $1,100 for the hearing lasting from 1:15-4:15pm when it was my atty who intentionally prolonged his time and decided to wait around when it was all over. In addition to extremely poor representation, their customer service is horrible. When we initially paid our retainer and didn't hear from anyone or get any confirmation that an lawyer was retained, my wife called and spoke to Jef directly and he was extremely rude and eventually hung up on her. When we called and asked that we have our atty removed from the case, the secretary was equally as nasty. This office is unprofessional and their legal is the absolute worst. Because my atty has basically sided with my son's mom it has negatively affected my case, how the judge views me as well as the strained relationship with my son. i have nothing good to say about jef henninger. he has alot of on-line hype but little knowledge of how to handle a dyfs case. he advised i use a dyfs provider for an evaluation which was the worst advise ever. five months later dyfs pulled the evaluation out and built their case around it. do not use any of their people no matter what the cost. jef wants your credit card! after that you never hear from him which is a blessing considering the rude and condesending attitude. he was the worst choice of my dyfs nightmare. read more

I retained Jef Henninger, Esq on 12-3-2014. As I never met Jef during the meeting that he had scheduled with, he had one of his Junior Associates meet with me and never informed me that Mr. Henninger would not be attending the meeting. I decide that I do feel comfortable with his Junior Associate Attorney's capabilities. I pay the retainer fee as requested, then all of the sudden, I contact the firm regarding any information/progress on my case on 3-4-2015, I find out that the Attorney working on my case has left the firm. I was never notified of any such occurrence, then shortly after on 3-6-2015 I receive a letter demanding payment, with no statement or fee as to how much they wanted or an accounting of how the retainer was spent. I leave 2 messages with the firm phone # to find out if I can get a copy of the retainer statement and to find out how much additional money so I can mail out a check and I get no return calls. Then all of the sudden today 3-12-2015, I receive a copy of a motion filed by Mr. Henninger to be relieved from my case. Clearly it was mistake on my part to trust this firm to handle my case. Please be very cautious if you decide to meet with anyone at this firm. It seems like a smoke & mirror setup. All I needed to know was how much they wanted? No one returned my call. I'm so taken back and confused by this entire situation. After feeling the peace of mind having done the right thing in retaining a lawyer for my case, I have been left in a horrible situation of having to start the process all over again. read more
