When it opened a few years ago, Six completely revolutionised the attire of Urmston ladies. I like the fact that the stock is forever changing but it means that this is a buy it when you see it kinda shop because if you return a couple of days later, the object of your desire may have vanished. Clothes here are lovely and well priced. Dresses start from as little as £15 and I have never spent more than £35 on an item. Six only stocks 2 or 3 of any garment and sells to ladies of all ages, particularly 20 and 30 somethings.The clothes are well sourced ad well made and usually don't follow the standardised sizing 10,12 14 etc. I prefer small, medium and large measurements because each category can span a few sizes and and if you are on a particularly snappy PMT day and your tummy has ballooned to the size of an eight month pregnant whale, how flattering is it that you can still fit into a small size? There are two narrow cubicles in the rear of the shop and my only complaint is that you always bang your head, or arms, or any other body part on the silly chandeliers whilst you are trying on the clothes.This is a minor issue though, by and large Six is a jewel of a shop. It also sells belts, jewellery, and other accessories. The staff are friendly and don't get me wrong, even though I can talk for ages to the lovely blond lady who works there, one of Six's main attractions is the Adam Garcia lookalikey who never fails to give an honest appraisal of whether an outfit suits you or not. Looks AND honesty! Is this man for real? I would encourage all the single ladies out there to pop into Six. if you don't get fixed up with a fabulous frock, you might get fixed up with something else!

Whoever designed the window display is an artist as a scarecrow dressed in the most yummy butterfly halter-neck stands in a landscape of flowers. I entered in a trance like state and the lovely assistant Rebecca helpfully talked me through the stock. I loved the fact that they do not buy in bulk and you view each garment as a "piece" rather than simply clothes. Prices are moderate, slightly more than high street chains but you don't mind paying £60 for a unique Nood creation as opposed to £45 for a high street clone. Colours are bright and fabrics are great quality. Recognisable names such as Religion get into bed with new designer wares. This is no run of the mill ladieswear. A new range of gorgeous dove grey vintage inspired oilcloth bags and cute jewellery are also available to compliment your outfit. Open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am -6pm, Nood also opens its doors on a Sunday (12-5pm)- very handy for weekday nine to fivers. So did I buy the butterfly dress? This longevity is testament to the enduring talent of owner Alison, who has continually offered an eclectic mix of clothes, accessories and shoes from her own portfolio as well as interesting ranges from other designers like Religion, Gash and Get Cutie. It never feels stagnant in here, she keeps it fresh and all the accessories, bags and belts are so different to what you'd find on the high street. What I love most about this store though is it caters for every pocket. You can see why it has such a wide appeal.

My girlfriend always raves about this Monsoon because the mirrors in the changing rooms are apparently massive. I wouldn't know, being a boy and all and not in the habit of trying on clothes from Monsoon. I did notice that they had an awesome children's range. The brother of Six clothes shop in Urmston, Fred's is a plethora of funky, pretty and stylish ensembles and as only approximately three of each garment is stocked, you don't run the risk of seeing clones of yourself about town....is there anything more irritating?! A fresh green exterior leads you into a boudoir of flocked wallpaper and huge ornate mirrors. The store itself is small and can get really crowded especially on weekends, yet the changing room is spacious with two cubicles ( I just whip my clothes off in the area outside them, it beats a long wait). From floral boho maxis to vintage looking 60's lace minis. From cute summer dresses ( I bought a yellow/purple floral creation last year and was never out of it), to sexy sequinned numbers, Fred's has something for everyone. Prices are superb too! Most dresses range from only £18 to £30 with a couple of exceptions. The staff are terrific, Fred is so helpful and amazing at sourcing original clothes, teenage Saturday girls cannot do enough for you. The shop sells clothes for both men and women with most of the pieces being a one off.... so if you like something well enough to pay the rather inflated price, the likely hood is that you will be the only person in Manchester wearing it! The shop is fairly small, but the wide range of stock is neatly placed on east access rails. The only downside is the staff sometimes seem to have been a little distracted when I popped in, I don't know if this is because I am not head-to-toe in designer gear, but I get the feeling it is!
