Bangers and mash had instant potatoes. Not very good. Staff was friendly. Guinness was good.

Oh my. I had an excellent night out in Molly Brown's for my friend's 22nd birthday, and now I'm…read moregoing to tell you alllll about it. You lucky people... First up was a bit of dinner, and this was undoubtedly going to be a good one. Molly Brown's run this 2 courses for £10 offer from 12-9pm Monday to Thursday, and from 12-6pm on Friday and Saturday, which is really very good value for money. There's a huge variety too and definitely something for everyone - from garlic bread starters to roast stuffed pepper mains. I chose the bread and oils starter, which down an absolute treat (including down my top, which didn't go down quite so well...), and for the mains I had a burger which wasn't half a bad 'un. So far so good. We happened to be there on a Thursday night (incidentally, as Geraldine mentioned, quiz night), so we weren't going anywhere any time soon. Between the meal and quiz, we got some drinks (Strawberry Daiquiris were all the rage) and had a bit of craic. Speaking of the daiquiris, I got a lesson in making one from the exceptionally friendly barman. Excellent. The quiz man (who's an absolute hoot) did arrive a good bit late, but we were all so pumped for the quiz (ok, I was), that we didn't mind too much. Throughout all the rounds our team were in second place until the very last round. As Mr Quizmaster announced the scores, we listened for our name and realised we'd come top...with another team! Oooh, the drama. One last tiebreak question, and the first prize was ours. Well, you should have heard the cheers, and the singing along to "We are the Champions"...yes, an exceptionally good night indeed.

I heart Molly's and here's why! This contemporary pub has been open now for a few years on the site…read morethat used to be The Whiskey Haw and it has been a crowd pleaser ever since. On a Thursday night you can drop in for quiz night with the very entertaining quiz host and his half time nibbles...free and yummy! if you win you will receive anything from a bottle of wine to a 24 pack of beers (i know this because our team have won now a few times and we are not geniuses nor do we use our phones!!) They have a long list of cocktails as well as your standard man refreshments - beer! I heart Molly's because they run fantastic little offers every now and again. Sex and the City 2 premier night had a free cocktail, tickets and a bus to the cinema and back for a cheap as chips price! Trips to Down Royal racecourse are also run through the bar - the classic a pint and a bet. Kelvin, the manager, will happily whip you out 'a steak on a stone' from the kitchen while you look at the lovely paintings of local areas by local artists. Seriously, I could go on and on about this place...the food is really good with a starter and a main for a tenner. They even hosted my fiances 30th birthday party for no charge and allowed me to decorate the whole place with pictures of him in his nappy! So accommodating, affordable, friendly and I swear i'm not even getting paid to write this but I am going to print off a copy and take it in and try to get a free cocktail out of it!

Today in Roma's at around 5:10 pm on Saturday the 12th July, in newtownards I was asked to leave…read moreby a tall ginger haired guy, who said he was a supervisor. So today, in Romas, I was ordering my second pint of the day, and I asked the supervisor if I could go to the other side of the bar to get it cheaper and bring it round to this side of the bar (the food side, as there was no room on the other side). He replied that he'd rather I didn't, so I said, ok, we'll do it your way this time, but we can do it my way next time, it's a good compromise. Once he'd served me my pint he said to me that it was my last one. I asked him why, and he said that he just didn't want to serve me any more. I then asked him if I was banned for good, and he refused to answer. After several attempts of trying to get an answer, he said that I wasn't barred for good. I tried to get a reason to why he wouldn't serve me any more drink, and he just replied that he didn't want to. I asked to speak to his manager, and he told me that he was allowing me to drink this pint, with the implication that if I caused trouble he wouldn't. I said that I didn't want the pint but did want to speak with his manager. He took my pint and emptied it. The manager, a short plump middle aged lady, with dark hair, came round from the other bar, and queried if I'd been barred (which I hadn't as I am only visiting newtownards from England to visit my mother who is in a nursing home). I then asked how I could make a complaint, to which she replied that I should write a letter. I asked if they had an email address, to which I was told that they did. I then asked 4 times what the email address was and received no reply. I was then told it was on your website. I feel that my treatment today has been very humiliating, for no good reason what so ever, and I am hoping for a satisfactory apology and retraining of your staff and management as this is well below proffessional standards. Made me feel that I was in the playground again trying to justify myself against a lot of unreasonable bullies. Absolutely disgusting customer service and complaints management.

I mean, there literally is nothing the same...crazy things happen, everyone goes stark-raving mad, and the friends you thought you knew, well you never really knew at all. Le Winters is the restaurant / bar aspect of the Strangford Arms Hotel. On this particular night, less than a week to Christmas, the eight of us girlies were only one of many parties enjoying their night out. One table in particular had bribed one of the men into dressing up as Santa and producing large gifts for a bunch of hysterically screaming ladies, none of which were younger than forty. Meanwhile, being the undeniably quiet group of the night, we pulled a few crackers, took a few pics, and tucked into the dinner. Quite possibly the most random thing *anyone* has ever said to me came around this moment... Waiter: Eh, so love, what are you havin'? Me: I'm going for the melon starter. Waiter: Yes, you do look like a melon kind of person...*walks off* Indeedy. The food was great, and I even tackled the waiter about whether or not I looked like a turkey kind of person when he asked me my main course. Embarassment ensued, and he just smiled and said nothing. Good move Mr Random Waiter. The in-house DJ was doing such a good job on the decks that we decided to end the night with a good oul boogie. We weren't the only ones, with bleary-eyed old men and off-their-head drunk younger (but not much) women 'dancing', gyrating and performing other unmentionable acts which still haunt me. Gross. If you're in need of a Christmas dinner location for this year, or just fancy a wee tipple, Le Winters has definitely got a few tricks up its sleeve...just watch out!
