He was easy to work with and offered us a range of services based around our budget. We were (and still are!!) completely thrilled with the quality of his work and all of the time, effort and care he put into making it perfect. He let us choose the music and didn't stop working with us until everything was right. I never thought I wanted a wedding video (picturing cheesy 90s VHS cassettes with heart wipes, etc.) so didn't bother looking for one. But then just a couple months before our September wedding, my fiance and I were visiting my parents and we all dug out the old film projector and watched their 1977 wedding that some uncles had shot on Super 8. I realized that I wanted our wedding to be captured in the same way. I searched for Super 8/8mm wedding films online, and there's not a ton of options out there, even in Boston, and a lot of them are pretty expensive (turns out that it being old technology doesn't lessen the price -- it means the actual film is harder to get and most people don't know how to work with it). Anyway, I found Dave at New England Vintage Films and luckily he was available for our wedding date. He really knows his stuff and his prices were so reasonable compared to many others I contacted (even compared to non-Super 8 options, his prices were great). He was also willing to travel to Maine for our wedding. Dave was very easy to work with, super responsive by email and phone, and flexible about meeting us in person. He's also crazy enthusiastic about what he does, which is fun and shines through in the product he puts out. He was great to work with the day of the wedding, going out of his way to get in touch with our photographer beforehand so that he could coordinate with her and the day of they worked seamlessly together and Dave was invisible. Yet he got amazing shots of everything!! He provided us with a short trailer set to one song (our pick) much faster than I could have thought possible (a few weeks and it only took that long because we were slow getting him the song we wanted to use). The trailer is perfect!!! It's absolutely beautiful and romantic and full of cute shots of the kids in the wedding (which we requested). I've watched it at least once a day and many days more than once. Everyone who has seen it has LOVED it -- people I don't even know that well have cried watching it. He captured the day and the emotions perfectly. I didn't think it could get any better but then he finished our full-length film and WOW. Again, the cinematography (I think that's the right word) is stunning and soft and beautiful. And his editing is incredible. It's perfectly set to four songs we chose and captures so many amazing moments -- some that we didn't even know were happening on our wedding day but luckily Dave caught them. He's got a great eye and somehow knew just what would mean the most to us. We've loved watching the full film online and can't wait to watch the Blu-Ray that he made of it -- we've been saving it to watch with family -- because Dave says it will be even better in that format. I can't imagine it being any better. I smile every time I even think of it. We had so much fun working with Dave and are so happy with what he produced, that we're now going to have him transfer my family's old Super 8 films! It is not quite as often that we take the time to pour on the compliments or give the highest possible ratings to the people who deserve it the most. My daughter, Lila, recently had the opportunity to be photographed by an amazing and talented photographer named Ian Cowpar (of Saxon Cross photography). Aside from the fact that he has photographed both of my girls before and we have become friends, I feel that if I do not proclaim from the mountain tops that he is EXCEPTIONAL at his craft; I would be doing others a great disservice. I will start with the obvious. Not many people enjoy being photographed. Yes, some do not mind, but generally speaking, most of us are not ready to hop in front of the lens without a bit of anxiety. Ian has a way of working with his subjects that is so disarming and light. He is inviting in nature and actually encourages the subject to actively participate in the shots, looking at some of them as the shoot takes place. It is so obvious that he wants his clients to be completely relaxed and trust him and one would have a difficult time being nervous or anxious due to the way he communicates. He is funny and light yet serious about his craft and precise in his techniques. It was amazing how he captured so many perfect shots without many retakes if any. That is talent. Anyone can press a button, but Ian is watching the set/scene, the natural lighting, the shadows and everything in between. All of this without being the least bit distracted. It would actually be impossible to "get lucky" with that many superior photos and therefore it is more than just our opinion that he is so good (Nobody is that lucky!) He is super-excited, but not hyper. He is swift,but not rushed and his timing is meticulous. Ian is like a one-man band with his "trunk full of goodies". He momentarily ducked into his car emerging with a bright green "pop-tent" so that Lila could change outfits right there on the beach, privately. When she was able to quickly change-she instantly had a brand new look without missing the beautiful sunset. He has an arsenal of lenses and light defusing equipment close by at all time and he switches back and forth producing multiple versions of shots with different effects using shadows, natural light and flashes. He makes it look way-too-easy! Ian's pricing is affordable and fair and he delivers MUCH MORE than what you pay for. He is dependable, prompt, energetic, funny and cares about his craft immensely. The turn-around time was nuts-we were looking at some of the finished work within hours. The excitement we felt through his emails showing us the finished photos would fool most into thinking that he was talking about photos of his own child. I would HIGHLY recommend that you book a session with this GEM of a guy and photographer. You simply cannot go wrong with Ian and Saxon Cross Photography. I have been fortunate to see the work of dozens of his clients and he ALWAYS comes through on top. Everyone is happy and raving about him and his work. We will all need to hire a photographer at some point in our lives...parties, weddings, baptisms, school/senior photos, and family reunions...but once you experience Ian's talents-believe me, you will find more reasons to book a session with him! I recall all the hoopla we went through as a family when trying to decide on a photographer for my son's senior year yearbook photos. When you think about it, your high school senior picture is the one picture that more people will ever see of you I like to get recommendations from friends & family when I am looking for something new where I have little experience. My wife and I actively seek out online feedback from previous customers whenever possible. Previous customers are the most accurate measure of satisfaction possible, in my opinion. Therefore, I have no problem recommendations of my own when I have had positive experiences. I can tell you that after spending considerable time researching photographers, Studio Mark Emile was the CLEAR winner. Obviously he is a skilled photographer, but he also provided several other benefits that others could not or would not match: 1. He did a great job at putting my son at ease during the shoot. The photographer-subject banter brought out the best in images of my son. It wasn't a stale, sterile studio environment 2. Mark encourages the student to bring in props for the shoot. Although my son did not choose to go this route, Mark has photographed kids in ballet outfits, with their dogs, playing musical instruments... almost any hobby or sport the student wants to use. 3. Even better, Mark shoots "on location". He took my son around downtown Nashua and captured some great urban shots emphasizing New England nineteenth century brick structures. He also snapped some cool shots down by the river that goes through the city. He's been known to do shoots at beaches, in the woods, and almost any location provided it fits his schedule. Does your photographer do this? 4. Mark works directly with the school yearbook publisher so you don't have to worry about submitting files or missing deadlines. This is a very nice touch! 5. Finally, Studio Mark Emile offers a generous referral program. Only a few referrals and your session can be free! A student at Tony's school referred us. Let me put it this way: we will be using Studio Mark Emile again for our daughter for her senior yearbook photos.
