JB Ranch, what a fantastic place to learn about horses. I had a few lessons there and then attended Horse Camp. It was everything and MORE than I had anticipated. A truly great experience. I volunteered at a horse rescue for a couple of years and became familiar with being around horses. However, I was never taught how to tack a horse or to ride. Jerry teaches Western with neck rein training. He told me that by the end of camp I would know how to tack / untack a horse and that I would be able to ride and control a horse. He was right!!! I learned everything he taught me and more! I am so grateful for my experience at JB Ranch. His horses are very well taken care of, very well. He and his team are responsible, informative, and provide appropriate training for all levels of riders. One of the main focuses is about being safe around the horses and when riding. The trail rides are extensive and enjoyable. If you want to really learn how to ride, this place is it. Jerry's place is, by FAR, the best ranch I have been to. I spent a couple of weeks researching and arranging for my friend from out of town and I to take a pleasure ride at JB Ranch on Spring Break and was pretty excited about it on the day of. I am guessing all of the positive reviews about JB Ranch reflect their usual level of service. Unfortunately, I will never know since Jerry chose to cancel my ride when we arrived at the ranch all of 10 minutes late. I'm sure he was right that it causes an inconvenience when someone is late, but had I known that being a tad late meant I wouldn't get to ride, I would not have bothered to drive the 25 minutes it took to get out there. It's too bad he didn't make that clear. I am disappointed to have my plans canceled without any notice. read more

I've been riding here and I couldn't be happier! This place is great for a nice Western Treat. The place has a nice ranch feel to it. It has a very relaxed and nice atmosphere. JB Ranch is run by a very experienced group of people led by Jerry. We had a great ride and experience. Lots of nice horses and ponies. Not "commercialized" and not a goofy kid leading you on a trail like most places. We had a very nice afternoon ride and barnyard experience... goats... and we watched Jerry trim hoofs and stuff like that... cool. Well over a 2 hour ride to the little town of Rio Linda. Perfect. We called Jerry at 11 and arrived at 12:30. Very affordable. read more

I went with my Grandmother, sister and cousin and we had an amazing time. Jerry was a great teacher and had many tips and showed us all the proper techniques for me and the beginning riders in our group. The horses are used to people and Jerry did a great job at choosing the right ones for each of us and our individual skill sets/experience levels. He took us along the Northern California Frontier and throughout the area where the ranch was and our time there was about 2 and a half hours all together. My partner and I went on a ride at JB Ranch for my birthday and were really happy with the experience. They were relaxed but very knowledgeable and competent, and the horses were well-trained and in great condition. I've been riding my whole life and have had my share of disappointing trail ride experiences, so I was really pleasantly surprised at how great this was. The terrain we rode on wasn't super interesting but on the other hand, it allowed us to ride side by side instead of nose-to-tail. My partner is a beginner, and our guide Denise gave him some really useful instruction that had him both looking and riding better by the end. I will definitely be going back. read more

My wife and I took our 5 year old grand daughter to JB Ranch and I will go back every chance I get. Jerry was beyond belief. Me and my wife went for a ride for my birthday and it was great. The horses were in good shape and well behaved. It was about an hour and a half ride that went through a large field. This is a bit late but I just wanted to say how much I liked my experience!! My dad came over for a visit and we wanted to do something special so I called JB Ranch to see if we can get a horseback riding tour. I was in a hurry and called multiple places but none of them made same day reservations. When I called Jerry he was very friendly and was able to squeeze my family and I in such a short notice in his busy schedule! Had a wonderful day at JB Ranch. Jerry was warm and friendly and willing to teach me how to be a better rider. He took us out on the beautiful open spaces in Elverta where the wild flowers where blooming and the grasses gently blowing in the breeze. His horses are very well trained and friendly. Highly recommended!!! I purchased a trail ride for my boyfriend and I and I'm so glad we went with jb ranch. Jerry was so easy to talk to on the phone and in person and looking at the website and talking with him, you learn about his broad experience with horses. He really knows all things horse and is not at all intimidating  (which can be the attitude at many horse barns). So we showed up for our hour trail ride which I think ended up being closer to an hour and a half and we had so much fun! I've gone through a few years of lessons as a kid as well as riding camps and other trail rides over the years and I don't ever remember having so much fun!!! My boyfriend got a perfect horse for him and I feel Scotty was the perfect horse for me. Denise was our trail guide and I chatted with her most of the ride. She was so nice and I felt very safe with her as a guide. Also we both learned a lot. Just a perfect experience and I plan to come back very soon. read more
