History
Established in 1963.
Founded in 1963, Jazzkeller Sauschdall began as a student-led cultural initiative in Ulm. It later found a permanent home in a former wartime bunker at Prittwitzstraße 36, giving it a unique underground atmosphere. As a non-profit, volunteer-run venue, it became a hub for independent and experimental music.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Sauschdall expanded beyond jazz, embracing avant-garde, rock, and fusion. It remains deeply connected to Ulm’s alternative and student communities, hosting concerts, jam sessions, and cultural events.
With over 60 years of history, it is one of Germany’s longest-running independent music venues. Despite changing trends, it continues to thrive as a grassroots cultural space, driven by passion, creativity, and a strong community spirit.
