We had a breakdown on I 70 heading towards Colorado this week. Driving 10 miles an hour on the side of the road for about 15 miles doesn't get you very far. Our RV did happen to die right in the driveway of Jays diesel service. We were greeted by his son who changed out our fuel filter at my request. Took it for a test drive. Everything seems to be OK. Since it was my filter, he declined to take any money for his labor, but I was able to slip cash in his shirt pocket. We were on our way, but only made it around the corner before it died again.
His son was a little surprised to see us only to tell us that his dad wouldnt be back until about three in the afternoon.
Needless to say, our anxiety levels were very high. Having a 30,000 pound motorhome towed anywhere it's very expensive.
Jay arrived at around 3:30 and immediately went to work on our rv. Keep in mind he was extremely busy and dropped what he was doing to help us. He diagnosed it as being a fuel lift pump, which lucky for us he had in stock. By this time it was getting late and he told us if he couldn't get it done that night that we could plug into his building and spend the night in our RV.
This was about 645 on a Friday night when he says take it for a test drive. Went for the test drive, everything was perfect. Got back to pay him. I asked him if he took credit cards and he said no. He said come back in the morning and my receptionist will run your card. In the meantime go across the street to the KOA and I'll see you in the morning. In today's world who does that?
I tried to pay him extra and give him some cash, but he refused. His response was I like helping people in trouble. He said, by the way, my son mentioned that you had given him some cash and I appreciate that. Jay did ask for a favor, come back to service your vehicle when you're in town.
Kris and I are totally convinced that God orchestrated every part of this event.
We could been have stranded along the highway for hours waiting for the right tow truck.
Finding a mechanic on a weekend to service a freightliner type RV, almost impossible. Just finding a mechanic that has the time to do it.
If your ever in need of a honest mechanic and your in Richfield, Utah, Jay and his son are the people to see. God bless you Jay and your business.
