I found myself in need of 2 tires before I went on a 15 hour drive trip to visit my folks, I called…read moreour local Lakewood tire to see if I could drop the rims and tires off the night before I had to go ,and pick them up the next day. I explained I needed to trade the old ones for the used ones due to the urgency of the trip. Mental note never let a business know you are doing this in a last minute fashion because they know they have you. I was quoted between $40-$50 for the job, balanced and ready tomorrow, perfect. When i went to pick up the tires I was given a bill of $76. "umm I was told $40-50?" . "Yes well it needed a valve stem " He said. Really? a $26 valve stem. As he glared at me waiting for payment I reluctantly paid, now realizing I should have never told him of the urgency. When we got the tires outside and I looked at the bill it said, $60 labor.I asked if this was the hourly shop rate. He said no just a standard flat rate. Then how could he have quoted me $40, when this was a standard fee? Feeling taken advantaged of i put the tires in the van, but noticing they felt soft. Both of the tires were FLAT. I returned to the counter and told the employee, and we brought them back in to be tested. Both tires had holes in the sides, garbage, non-repairable. Do you not air test these before you balance and give them back to the customer I asked? "Hey they were used tires not our fault" Left with nothing but a $76 for nothing payment I asked if there was any kinda break or refund for what has transpired here, "Well I am not doing it for free" was all I got. Now I dont expect free, but lets break it down here .Time to take old tires off and put used ones on,(rims were never grinded and sealer never applied, confirmed by next shop I went to. 5 Minutes. new valve stem $2, weights and balancing (should not been done if tires were air checked) but $4.Times all this by 2 and we get $6 labor charge (at $60 a hour) and $12 extra parts. Total $18. LIKE I SAID BAD FIRST TIME CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE.

They stripped the oil drain nut and the oil leaked out and the motor seized. The owner, Rob, was dificult to deal with to say the least. Despite the fact that my sons oil didn't need changing for another few thousand km's, and also despite the fact that the car wasn't there for an oil change. We ended up coming to some compromise, but it was like pulling teeth. Also, if you call for quotes on tires, try not to piss them off by asking if they do price matching or provide competitive quotes. A business to avoid if you ask me.
