My biggest complaint though would have to be the roosters outside. Starting at 3am you will hear them going off every few minutes so if you're a light sleeper beware. One of the upside though is that you are given a free breakfast ticket daily which you must claim from the front desk sometime at the end of the day. The iconic "Fort Ilocandia" was rebranded to "Grand Ilocandia." Bluntly put, this hotel sucks and there's nothing grand about it. Reviews will fool you if you google it. Youtube videos are probably from some locals who's unaware of their own biases. It seems like it's been let go but the locals are trying their best to keep it together. But with poor management and business acumen it's slowly rotting. It does have its perks, like the gardens, greenery, breeze; it's not totally unbearable. Lots of history. This hotel was built in the 70s, claim to be the "5 star of the north," but honestly, it's like a 1 star motel at best in today's standards. Nothing seems to have been updated from this place since the 70s. There was pink mold in the room, the beds were super firm and just old. Might as well sleep on concrete or plywood. There were some bugs on the bed as well. The entire room looks like from the 70s. Even the A/C vents had some grease. The best feature of this place is the private beach. The hotel didn't have phones and their tv is not updated/usable. I actually was born here and wanted to show my wife parts of where I grew up after retiring from the US military. As much as I'd like to advocate for this place, I can't. I have blood relatives that have been working here for 20-30 years. Even after talking to the hotel staff, they don't even recommend it. One hotel staff say they even found a snake in one of the rooms and begged the guests to delete the photo. Please do yourself and your family a favor and do NOT stay here. Not comfortable at all and it's barely livable to say the least. Furthermore, I heard from the locals Waterfront Cebu bought this hotel $50-$53M which will start renovations soon, and some kind of megaword will be built near it roughly $250m project. But currently, this hotel has terrible accommodations to offer, and we do not recommend. Maybe an airbnb option is best if you're visiting this part of the country.

It's a four-star hotel, but what struck me more was how well kept everything is. The whole place blends Filipino Spanish and Chinese influences, so when you walk in, you get that instant nostalgia you expect from Vigan, but without losing any of the modern comforts. The rooms are spacious and thoughtfully done. The air-conditioning is strong, everything is well equipped, and the Japanese-style toilet is a nice surprise. The resort has a beach (salt water) few feet away from the hotel building. If you are not staying in any of the hotel rooms, admission to the beach area is PHP10 only. Cottages are available for rental, The room in the resort is a standard room size for 4 people. It will costs you only PHP500 per day and it includes their daily native home made breakfast which I may say is the best Ilocano food I have tasted during the stay in the North. Additional fee is required for any other dining option. Catering can be arranged to have it set up into the cottages. The resort is secured, 2-3 men are watching the ground.The resort actually is owned by the barangay and under the management of the barangay captain. It has a chapel, a barangay hall, multi-function hall, a liquor store and small merchandise store that you could have access during your stay. People in the surrounding area is trust worthy. They will treat you like a family and they will welcome you like you are one of their people. Have I mention that the fresh breeze in the resort is free? That the calmness of the blue water is inviting? That the shallow beach will make your day "a day" ? And that the sound of the night's insects will make you soundly asleep? Come by. Relax.
