The irony of visiting a botanical garden in Buenos Aires - possibly the greenest city I've ever been in - was not lost on me. It most certainly is not a must-do experience as, if you walk there from wherever, you're likely to pass so many expansive, grassy, tree-filled parks that you'll question why you're not just stopping now. I'm actually a much bigger fan of green parks than botanic gardens (even free ones like this) as I generally care little about plant species or origins. But I came here and found it to be a nice experience. Ample benches in the shade of trees provide a nice spot to hang out and many were doing just that. I spotted a couple sitting on a bench reading actual paperback books and thought "my tribe" before I noticed that I was feeling things bite me ever so often as I strolled through. So I'm probably not hanging out here for long. There were several places that should have held water (ponds, I guess) but they were, sorrowfully, dry on this visit. I do like a water feature. There's also statues and greenhouses (not open to visitors). There's absolutely no reason to head here but if you do, it's a nice place to stroll through on your way to, perhaps, areas with more grass and fewer insects. read more

Interesting free garden. There are lots of different plant varieties and specimens to view. The only thing that holds this attraction back from a 5 star experience, is the neglect that some areas of the garden are experiencing. I'd say about 80% of the garden is well-maintained, but there are some areas of overgrowth that need some attention. In addition to the plants and trees, there's some beautiful sculptures and seating areas to admire all the natural beauty. Also, you get a real sense of how Argentinians spend their free time. You'd be hard pressed not to find the locals socializing and admiring the natural beauty without their ubiquitous Mate in hand. There are also several hauntingly beautiful glass greenhouses on site dating to the Belle Epoch era. It's fun to get a close up look and not only see into the greenhouses themselves, but take in all the architectural details that make these buildings so unique. Overall a Jardín Botánico is a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours, it just needs more upkeep. There are free restroom facilities as well, so you really can enjoy at your own pace. read more

Neglected, sad and unkempt. For a city, the size and importance of Buenos Aires, this is really a very underwhelming botanical garden. Many of the markers are eligible, clearly in need of major maintenance and upkeep. read more

This place is gorgeous, and I'm sure nature lovers (and Pokemon Go players) appreciate it more than me. Cause it's definitely a 4 star place, but I'm just not a fan because of the mosquitoes. It's still a beautiful place, specially in winter, but I just can't stand them and every time I go I come back home itchy and willing to leave this meatsack of a body to become a digital being. Sign me up whenever. There's tons of plants from all over, fountains and statues and gorgeous stray (or semi stray) cats. It's... it's a pretty place, I promise. It's safe, it's clean, it's got tons of trees, flowers and plants. I personally prefer the Rose Gardens to this, but it doesn't mean it's not amazing. I wish the greenhouse was open to the public, and that they would consider reopening at least one more entrance/exit, cause just having the one (though remodeled, looks great, on Santa Fe Avenue) it's a bit of a headache. Then again, might be cause I'm being followed by a cloud of mosquitoes and I just want out. read more

Not to be missed for so many reasons. First off, it's free. Second, it's beautiful. Filled with statues, green houses, maintained walking paths, benches to relax, open green space to picnic. We probably spent at least an hour there before walking along the outside of Eco Park (it was closed) and eventually ending at MALBA. read more

Lovely gardens! Free admission, and a great way to go for a quiet walk. I wish I could go inside the greenhouses, the insides looked amazing. Beautiful statues all over the place. Watch Tarsem Singh's 'The Fall' for a quick cameo of the gardens. read more

Nice botanical garden is well manicured and has a nice variety of plant life. Only sad note is that I heard that this is the place where people come to abandon their pet cats. That's just awful. There are quite a bit of stray cats here. However, they are looked after and fed so that's a plus. I even saw a woman come with many cans of cat food to feed these beautiful animals. read more

so far as outdoor parks go, the Jardin Botanico is alright if you're in the area and have some time to kill. calling it a botanical garden is a bit of a misnomer, but I think "gated park with a random assortment of poorly curated plants" doesn't sound as nice in Spanish. the park itself is in need of upkeep. shall we count the ways? - the greenhouses look like they'd be more at home in Recoleta Cemetery. sad-looking plants inside. does anyone even use it? - the statues are fun to look at, but need some restorative work and cleaning. - stray cats roaming everywhere. they're harmless, but a bit annoying. - walking paths in need of maintenance, but you can't walk on the grass (potentially, you could get a fine). you'll get some decent photos, but I wouldn't make it a destination. read more
