    Screwed directly into drywall.

Let me start off by saying that this is the first negative review I've left a company and I didn't leave this review without giving this some thought. I bought a townhouse recently that was built in 2017. Jansen Shutters designed, built, and installed the handrails on my multistory townhouse. When I bought it a few months ago, I discovered that the handrails were pulling out of the wall. About half of the anchor points of the handrails were only installed into drywall, not stud or blocking. The technician that originally installed them did not even use wall anchors to secure the handrail into the drywall. The screws were put directly into drywall with nothing else holding the handrail to the wall. That fact is unbelievable, as even towel hooks and other small fixtures are secured using wall anchors. This is obviously both dangerous and not up to code. When I reached out to Jansen about my issue, they said my warranty was expired (I just bought the house a few months ago from the original owner so I wasn't aware of a warranty), and that they would need to charge me $175 an hour to have a technician fix the problem. I agreed to the rate, but felt they should have stood behind their product and poor installation and offered to fix it for free (or at a more reasonable rate). The technician was very nice, but clearly young and inexperienced. Certainly not worth 175$ an hour. He was supposed to show up between 10am-1pm and didn't arrive until 2:40pm. Jansen did not even give me a heads up that he would be late. I had to ask you twice what his ETA was. The technician partially fixed the problem by placing plastic anchors into the drywall. This is a temporary fix and Jansen well knows that. My handrail is already pulling out again and need to be secured to studs. I understand that this problem could be 100% Jansen's fault, or could have also been the fault of the builder of my townhouse if they didn't put studs or blocking where Jansen needed it when the house was built. However, even if that's the case, it doesn't excuse Jansen installing a handrail directly into drywall, without even using wall anchors. I paid the invoice for the inexperienced technician (at $175 / hour) because I agreed to do so, but I'm really disappointed. Here's a picture of one of the anchors already pulling out of the drywall again, a day after their technician put the plastic anchors in. You can see the anchors their technician tried putting into the drywall to hold the railings. I'm not sure what my next steps are to get this issue resolved and I reached out to Jansen explaining my concerns and disappointment that I've expressed in this review, but they did not respond to me. I asked them to put me in contact with an experienced technicians to discuss what needs to be done to make this railing safe and sturdy but they have not responded. Attached is one photo showing the handrail pulling out after they put plastic anchors it and several photos of the original issue.

Jansen installed our hurricane windows, the windows are very nice. Service with Jansen was prompt, they removed windows, installed the hurricane windows and completely cleaned up. Great job. We were so happy with their service we called Jansen for a new door, they suggested adding a light (window) to our current door, offered a great selection, saved us money. Much less expensive to add a window to existing door than install an entirely new door.

Final work on a great installation experience by Jansen!

On March 21, Brian Baker, the owner of DoctorBlinds informed me via email that DoctorBlinds could not fulfill the order as the manufacture (Graber) had discontinued the fabric I had selected. Accordingly, the order should have been cancelled by DoctorBlinds at that time and my payment refunded promptly thereafter. In lieu of such, Mr. Baker unilaterally decided to attempt to find potential replacements for the discontinued items. He initially promised to bring such potential replacements to my home the following week for my consideration. The promised home visit never occurred however. In fact, over the course of the next two months Mr. Baker repeatedly reneged on promises to either bring or send replacement samples to my home. Frustrated with his lack of responsiveness, I requested a refund several times in followup emails to Mr. Baker. Finally on Saturday, May 3, 2025 I received a small batch of potential replacement samples by USPS mail. Finding none of them to my liking, I so advised Mr. Baker, requested that he abandon continuing efforts to find replacements, and again requested a refund in an email to him on May 5, 2025. Receiving no reply to such, I sent a subsequent email to Mr. Baker on May 12, 2025 reiterating my lack of interest in continuing efforts to find replacements and insisting that I receive a refund by May 23 otherwise I would seek redress through PayPal and other lawful means if necessary As I did not receive a refund by the May 23 deadline I had imposed, I submitted a complaint to PayPall requesting a refund of my February 19, 2025 payment of $1,038.60 through that service to DoctorBlinds. On May 30, 2025 I received an email from PayPal indicating that I was receiving a refund of $1,038.60 as the complaint had been resolved in my favor. It is very disconcerting that it took over three months (February 19 - May 30) and the intervention of PayPal to receive a refund from DoctorBlinds for an order they could not fulfill.

The only time I heard from you is when I called and left a message inquiring about the status of my blinds. No one ever picked up the phone and always left messages. I was told that the valences would be installed with in a week and I was never called to let me know when they would be installed. I was told that the owner himself was going to install them and they should only be a few days. Turns out I had to call again to find out the status of the valence installation. I paid you in full at the time of my order. No one ever told me that the valences would have an extra charge. Had you done so we could have worked the charge. I have my texts and other correspondence info if you would like to look at it and see how bad our communication with each other is and how I initiated the phone/text conversations all along. I hope to pass on better Karma than you have sent to me. A business owner should never be rude and ignore a customer. I worked for a family business for many years and customer service was something we took pride in. We never would have responded the way you did to me. This order was placed in mid December and when the valences finally came in they were the wrong size. This job was not fully completed until April 12.

My order was screwed up not once but twice, requiring two redos of the shutters. Then another visit because they left one out that should have been included. So, they finally get the order right (included split tilt and sill plate as ordered) but in four out of six windows the shutters look terrible, with uneven gapping and other problems. Maybe they got the measurements wrong? All I know is they look cheap and sloppy, despite the high price. It's been a seven month nightmare with far too many visits and dealing with a manger who likes to blame customers for their mistakes. Use a different vendor and maybe avoid Hunter Douglas (they're reputation is no longer deserved). Both the dealer and the brand have major problems. I've heard M&S Blinds and Shutters is good, or Blind Ambition. The photos show the third build, or second redo. Still the excessive light bleed all around, bad fit in the window recess, and inconsistent gaps between louvers and all around. Except for 2 out of the 6 that are acceptable or passable, they really look awful. For $6300, these shutters should be neat and clean looking.
