This is a really cool sculpture created by John Spaulding in 1989. I love the concept, but it is not being maintained at all. It is located right outside the Lockefield Gardens Apartments and is a tribute to the flourishing musical heritage that was a part of the Indiana Avenue scene. The sculpture is a collage of saxophones, sousaphones, trombones, trumpets, and tubas welded together and arranged in a square column.
It is located in a small park area with three park benches, and flag poles behind it. And it sits in the middle of a fountain. The fountain was not working during my visit, however, and the pool was dry. It looks to have not been operational for a while. It also had a rancid smell around the area too.
I think that if the sculpture is cleaned and the fountain is fixed, this will once again be a nice spot and a center piece of the corner that it is located on. read more
