My child has made amazing progress academically, and I love the structure and high expectations the school sets. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and communication has been great. The campus is beautiful, clean, and well-organized, and there's a real sense of community among the families. I also appreciate how the school balances strong academics with fun events and school spirit activities. I'm so thankful to have a school like Legacy in our area -- my child is happy, learning, and excited to go to school every day!

When parents feel their kids are being harassed or mistreated, it destroys the trust a school should have with its community. When even the Cibolo police tell a parent to "follow your heart" and consider removing their children, it shows just how serious the situation has become. This school deserves leadership that truly cares about the students, teachers, and families. I sincerely wish that another group outside of Legacy could step in and give this place the care, respect, and leadership it deserves.

In addition, there were concerns regarding the conduct of staff members. My daughter became involved with individuals of a questionable character, and I found the experience of dropping her off at the institution to be extremely petrifying. In an effort to address the situation, a meeting was convened with the principal of the school and the district; however, no action was taken until a year later, by which time the drug situation had significantly deteriorated and even like that it has not been control. Also, to note my daughter's involvement in varsity-level swimming and polo for four years was observed, and an attempt was made to solicit guidance and support from her Coach Nelson. However, instead of maintaining confidentiality, the coach disclosed the matter to the entire team and mom in charge of helping. Consequently, the team and their teammates began to bully and isolate her, excluding her from all activities. Furthermore, none of her peers spoke to her, exacerbating the situation! The coach was also complicit in this mistreatment, as were some of the volunteer mothers who worked with him. The names of these individuals were Janet Stewart and Dana Robinson; They were supposed to be nurturing and kind, but they also mistreated my child and were abusive towards me, despite knowing that I was a single mother who had cancer.I submitted a complaint to principal and the school district again, but no action was taken. It was only after my child began attending Johnson that she encountered individuals of questionable character, and that drugs were permitted on campus. Nonetheless, it is gratifying to note that she successfully completed her studies at Johnson with honours, was awarded with an scholarship, and has now enrolled as a first-year student at a highly regarded university, where she continues to achieve academic excellence. However, the four years she spent at high school were a particularly challenging period for both of us. It is therefore not a school I would recommend. If it is chosen by the reader, however, it is important to be aware of the unsavoury characters that are present, and to not expect any support from the school district or its staff.

After a full year of bullying (constantly being called names and put down, even by so-called…read more"friends") and problems, including my daughter getting hit in the head while she was taking a test, so hard that she saw double, because the kids were throwing paper balls around the room, sliding off desks, bouncing the balls off the teachers' desk, (one of them jumped up to catch the ball and as he came down his elbow clocked her hard on the top of her head) while the teacher was on her phone allowing all of it to go on.... I decided to pull out my daughter and put her at Legacy Traditional School instead. Another time, some bullies encouraged a special needs kid to wet his hand and slap her on the back of the neck during art class. She told me there were rumors of weapons being brought to school (one time a gun, another time a knife). She told me there was graffiti all over the bathroom stalls, the hallway floors and walls, and the classroom desks. Kids looked at inappropriate pictures during class, broke out into physical fights often, and were so mean to teachers they made them cry on a regular basis. In spite of sending police to inspect backpacks, and having the principal in the classroom these problems continued. It's utterly out of control and dangerous. She said most of her teachers were nice to her, which is why it gets 2 stars instead of 1. She was in the district all the way through from Green Valley, to Schlather, (love both of those schools!) but after 1 year of Dobie, I was done. I shouldn't have even let her stay that full year. I was so happy when it was voted on to allow for charter schools (Legacy to the rescue!!). I'm not saying Legacy is perfect, but it's 1,000 times better than Dobie hands down. No bullying (students are MUCH better behaved), no graffiti, teachers are nice and approachable, work load is reasonable, the principal is involved in EVERYTHING, which is awesome! There are tons of fun family events. The food is so much healthier (No artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, etc.) One downside: no changing rooms for the gym, bathrooms only, which is difficult, but that became irrelevant toward the end of the year as they aren't required to dress out anymore. Since Legacy only goes through 8th grade, she'll be going back to the district next year to Steele HS. My oldest daughter went to Steele, and my son goes there now. It seems to be mostly a good school, so only Dobie is terrible. The rest of the district (SCUCISD) seems pretty good.

They continue to be supportive, professional, and always willing to communicate with parents. Whether it's through phone calls, emails, or text messages, they make an effort to keep families informed, which is something I really value. The curriculum remains challenging and encourages students to think critically. While there are still some concerns about the lack of specific cultural observances, I do see that the school focuses on deeper discussions about historical events rather than just surface-level recognition. I can respect that approach, even if it's different from what some might expect. One issue that still comes up a lot is the car line. The construction in the area has settled down a bit, but now there's a new challenge--sharing the road with other businesses. It definitely adds another layer of congestion, but I think it's important to acknowledge that a lot of the frustration comes from how we, as parents, handle the process. There are still too many instances of people not paying attention, blocking driveways, or leaving huge gaps in the line, which just makes things worse. If everyone followed the guidelines, it would probably run a lot smoother. The school is still a charter, which means funding is always a challenge. It runs largely on donations and tuition, but not every family contributes equally, which puts extra strain on resources. At the same time, the staff is stretched thin, and I know that makes classroom management tough. It's understandable that some behavior issues might be handled more strictly just because teachers have so much on their plates. One thing I've been thinking about lately is how easy it is for us as parents to rate and critique a school, but I wonder how the school would rate us. A child's education isn't a one-way street where only the school has to be accountable--parents play just as big of a role in making sure their child succeeds. Whether it's supporting teachers, reinforcing expectations at home, or just being mindful of how we contribute to the school community, it's something to consider. Overall, my experience with Great Hearts Live Oak has been positive, even with the challenges. No school is perfect, but I do see the effort they put in, and that matters. I just hope that as a community, we can all recognize that education is a shared responsibility, not just something for the school to carry on its own.

Despite having an IEP in place, the school consistently failed to follow it or provide the accommodations he needed to succeed. The lack of communication and accountability from certain teachers was alarming. Instead of feeling encouraged, my son became increasingly discouraged and dreaded going to school -- something no child should ever feel. There was little to no positive feedback or emotional support offered, and the overall attitude toward his well-being seemed indifferent at best. As a parent, it was heartbreaking to watch his confidence decline in an environment that is supposed to nurture learning and growth. Thankfully, we were able to move him to a school that values kindness, inclusion, and support -- and the difference has been night and day. I sincerely hope Great Hearts leadership takes this feedback seriously and makes meaningful changes to ensure no other child has to go through a similar experience.

Teaching is horrible, teachers, etc I ONCE SAW A GIRL PASS OUT IN THE RESTROOM? I saw 2 girls vape, the food is like old frozen food that you can put in the microwave? I once got really sick my left eye was all static like and I was dizzy, panicking, and very nauseous and this teacher (he's not there anymore) would tell us to put our phones in this situation or pocket thing with numbers so when class ended i grabbed my phone but? Someone else's as well? The teacher was asking where the phone was but i was dizzy and couldn't hear... I didn't realize and just ran to my next period WHILE BEING SICK! It was already the end of the school day I just needed one more period..I asked the teacher if I could go to the nurse I did. I got there and she gave me snacks you know those "" (no water by the way) I texted my mom when the nurse told me not to but I did it anyway I insisted my mom to pick me up she said she will (thankfully) I went back to class cause the nurse got mad at me for being on my phone! Damn I wish I yelled at her... anyway I sat back down and reached my pocket AND FELT THE PHONE I grabbed it and told the teacher (not him another one) she said okay but before I could say anything I felt to go home with my mom I felt free but also guilty...I just wish I gave back her phone but the next day I got in trouble haha who would have known that if I try to say what happened and why I grabbed her phone I would get shushed! I hated that teacher he knew I was sick (also turns out I was dehydrated! Cause the milk was rotten and the water was dirty.) I don't know if this make sense but what I'm saying is that this school doesn't care? It's always about the money huh? Money money money? this is coming from a student who used to be there but got in trouble and left I'm so glad I got expelled I felt so free! And the new school I'm at I actually learn! I actually know how to do things I never knew I could do! Shoutout to SOMERSET academy collegiate.
