Beware! I have been going to Dr. Wilson for many years. A couple of years ago he merged with Castro Valley family dentistry. After going for a routine cleaning I received a bill for the cleaning. I called to inquire why I was billed for a teeth cleaning and was told my insurance was out of network. I was upset that i was not notified of this change. A couple of visits ago Dr. Wilson examined my teeth and stated I had a cracked tooth that needed a crown. quote for crown $2,300 after insurance. I decided to wait and watch the tooth The next time I saw him he stated that the crack had gotten bigger and if I didn't get a crown, I would need to have it removed and have to get an implant. I felt he was pressuring me. He seemed very annoyed. It wasn't until my husband saw him and Dr. Wilson said the same thing to him regarding one of his teeth. We started to feel as though he was being dishonest in order to make money off of us. We have both went to two other dentists for 2nd and third opinions. Low and behold there is nothing wrong with our teeth. NO CRACKS! I have reported this with all supporting documentation to the board of dentistry. BEWARE if you are told you need a crown! I went to James Wilson, as my dentist from when I was a small boy, up to a couple of years ago. For the last year and a half I have been harassed by debt collectors. Every time I went and got a cleaning, I asked them to see if my insurance would cover my visit...But despite my insurance being active on the day of that cleaning, and the fact that his staff cleared my insurance that day, I have been receiving calls from rude debt collectors. . My Credit has been silently destroyed and I have gone thru amazing hardships to acquire credit and have ended up in a very tough spot. The fact is, James Wilson is as fake as it gets. He doesn't care about you as a person, and doesn't appreciate your many years of patron ship. While he's a successful business man, I'd have to compare his ethics to a stock broker on wall street. He is a greedy no good, two faced loser, who always looks like he just got back from vacation, and has ruined my credit over a debt that is mere peanuts to him. I refute this debt and look forward to seeing him in court one day. My advise... Go find a new dentist. Because all he does is chase pennies, and could care less about you. read more

I have never been to Dr. Wilson's dentist office, however I some how came into contact with one of his advertising pens.... and I love it. I keep it in my purse so that my husband won't use it. The man never goes into my purse because he says it stresses him out. I feel like 4 stars is the right thing to do because he actually hasn't worked on my teeth but he has pretty good reviews from real patients and I really just love his pens. Dr. Wilson and staff are awesome! They're friendly, on-time, and very considerate of your comfort. The office is charming. The interior has a cute beach theme. There's a Keurig-type machine in the waiting room with coffee & hot chocolate (though who wants to have coffee breath before they see a dentist)? They even offer you fresh baked cookies as you leave (which I regretfully declined)! The dental hygienist (who's name I cannot remember) is great. I don't remember the last time I've had such a thorough cleaning. She even re-taught me the proper way to floss (yes, I'm 24 and have been doing it wrong). Dr. Wilson is a perfect mixture of friendly and professional. He really instilled me with confidence that I was getting the best treatment. My only qualm? There's a SF Giants clock on the wall. I have been a patient at this practice for over 20 years and have never had an issue with the care I received. Dr. Wilson and staff are friendly, warm, caring, and very professional. I have always been pleased with any work performed and I think their rates are quite reasonable as well. I will never forget when my dad fell and broke his dentures. Even though my dad was not a patient of Dr. Wilson's, I asked James if he would send the dentures out for repair. He not only had them repaired, he did not charge my father for the work. That is the sort of kindness you appreciate forever. My mother was also a patient of Dr. Wilson and was so dedicated she would walk to his office when she could no longer drive. One day he insisted on driving her home after her appointment (she was 85 at the time). When I spoke to her that night she would not stop talking about how "James drove me home!" Those are just two examples of the level of personal service you can expect from this practice. I have been going to Dr. Wilson for about three years, after moving to the Castro Valley area. Dr. Wilson and his entire staff have been nothing but wonderful for every visit. I had a slight phobia of dentists that is now gone thanks to Dr. Wilson and staff. They are always friendly and are great with sending reminders (I like the text reminders) when I have a scheduled visit. Dr. Wilson always give options when there is further work needed, and I have never felt pressured by him to have anything done. My small children will also soon be patients of Dr. Wilson, and I know they will be in good hands. My whole family has been going to this practice for as long as I can remember, first to Dr. Hunter and then to Dr. Wilson when he took over the practice. Our care has always been excellent, the hygienists are wonderful, and their equipment is kept up to date. My husband was in a wheelchair after his stroke, and Dr. Wilson continued to see him and take really good care of his teeth. He even installed a ramp so we could get into the office! I CAN'T RAVE ENOUGH ABOUT DR. WILSON & STAFF!!! I drove from the city just to see him. As a kid, I would eat lemons with salt ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. Eventually, I wore off all the enamel from my 2 front toofs. 20 plus years later, and countless visits to the dentist to get my 2 front teeth bonded and rebonded, I finally took the step and looked into veneers. Just like any other cosmetic procedure, you want to be absolutely certain that you are in competent, trustworthy hands. Not only that, you need to be sure that the doc also has an artistic edge. Based on that criteria, I knew I had to go to Dr. Wilson- who came *HIGHLY* recommended. From point of contact to execution, the experience was seamless and flawless. My veneers came out *GORG*. I had to wait a couple weeks as DR. WILSON HAD A LAB SPECIALIST COME IN TO MATCH THE COLOR I WANTED. How many dentists would do that??! Teeth are white, well-shaped, and gorgeous. Texture and shape look exactly like my own, down to the translucency of each tooth. You would *never* even know they are not my own. I would *HIGHLY* recommend Dr. Wilson and staff. Alina, his AWESOME assistant, has such a calming and soothing nature about her. Perfect when it comes to helping wimps like me to calm down, reassuring me that everything will be just fine, (i dread shots- especially shots in my mouth). They care, and it shows. Need music to distract you, they will give you an iPod. Need heat therapy for your neck, they will warm up an aroma shoulder wrap and put it on your neck. Need someone to squeeze your hand? Done. Dr. Wilson is a perfectionist when it comes to his work, and I don't know about you but that is one trait I want in my dentist! He is kind and very gentle and checks in every few minutes to make sure of your comfort. I think I pretty much worked with everyone on the team, from Linda at the front desk to the doctor himself and every single person was friendly, professional, and had a great sense of humor to boot! I had a crown come off during flossing and tried to get an appointment with my own dentist of ten years, but he had a death in the family and had no backup dentist available. I finally got a referral to Dr. Wilson, who fit me in the same day and did a very thorough job for the better part of half an hour. He explained the circumstances very well and referred me back to my own dentist with suggestions for possible follow-up. The office administrator was one of the most courteous and helpful that I have met, as was Dr. Wilson's dental assistant. As I was leaving, I was told that there would be no charge. The last time a crown came out, the re-cementing of the crown cost about $100. If I ever have to give up my own dentist, I am going to become a patient of Dr. Wilson! Update 06/29/16. My regular dentist surprised me at my last six-month visit by recommending that I have one of my molars extracted and gave me a referral to an oral surgeon. I went to Dr. Wilson for a second opinion. He took an x-ray and said that he thought he could fill the cavity and probably obviate any need to extract, at least for a prolonged period. During the procedure he and his assistant (Angela Koory) made everything as comfortable as possible. Office Manager Linda Moizoto was extremely accommodating in making the transfer of dental records easy and answering all questions. I was impressed with the experience. Update 11/02/16. Because of the above experience, I switched from my dentist of 12 years and had my first regular appointment today. The hygienist, Tracy, was the best that I have ever had. Her examination and measurements were comprehensive, and she explained everything that she was doing and what it meant. She was engaging and friendly throughout. Dr. Wilson then came in and patiently explained why he recommended that a failing gold crown that I had should be replaced. He is experienced in the newer CEREC procedure, which can fabricate a ceramic crown in a 1 to 1.5 hour visit without going through the inconvenience of a temporary crown and a second appointment. The cost seems to be equivalent to the older process. There was no pressure, just an explanation of the options and the reasons for the recommendation. I was offered an appointment for the replacement crown in a week. The insurance coverage and amenities were handled by Office Manager Linda Moizoto with her usual grace and friendliness. She also took me into the room where the CEREC machine was and explained the process. read more

Worst experience with a dentist I've had. Or should I say with a dentist AND the staff? I had a tooth with pain so horrible my husband had to stay home from work to care for our children while I was waiting to get a treatment I could not yet afford. The front desk help never got my calls for help to the doctor and when I finally went in person to sort out why I couldn't get a prescription filled I was given weird reasons as to why my calls weren't given to the dentist. My husband missed 3 days of work over the secretary deciding not to give the doctor my information. When he finally got it he said I needed not only pain meds but anti-biotics as well. So I had to go to another dentist to have the work completed and could have been severely injured because of the protocol in this backwards office. It seems the secretary didn't like me and admitted as much, so she decided not to give my info to the doctor. Wow. I needed anti-biotics. And after sitting down for a talk, I was not given any clear reasons for the behavior of the secretary, I was given an apology and I promptly fired Dr. Wilson and found someone competent. The 3 days of work my husband missed cost more than he will ever know, but I hope he cares. We have children. This was literally taking food out of their mouths. People living paycheck to paycheck can't afford to have that much income given up over the poor choice of someone not even trained to properly discern what kind of help I needed. Shame. Shame. Shame on this woman and this dentist. Shame. read more
