Nothing is perfect but when I was admitted a doctor took my vitals, reviewed my history thoroughly with an R.N. also taking notes. The R.N. explained the procedures, introduced me to my main caregiver. They did check on me many times each day & before I turned in for the night. Yes, they have rules about bringing in your own meds but the chances of getting double doses or over dose would be extremely high if not. When I had both knees replaced in 2011, I picked my meals & they were brought to my room since I was on the rehab machines so often. But I could also go to the lunch room or dining room if I wished. If I didn't like what they had on the menu I could order something else. In 2016 I came back due to another hip replacement since I live alone with the bedrooms on the 2nd floor. They are very short staffed and have to rely on people to come in from agencys.Several times my family member got skipped over for meals ,didnt take them to the dining room or bring food tho the room. Food is sub par at best. There are days where it looks decent but most days its pathetic. This may be petty but I think everyone deserves the little things like butter for a roll or sugar for cereal.But again they are short handed. The staff as I have experienced them, have all been polite and kind to my mother, and yes, I ask her every time I see her. Yes, she can't wait to go home, and I wouldn't have that any other way. Why four stars and not 5? The food (lunch and dinner) is a bit unimpressive, and I can certainly see how someone there for more than a couple of weeks would consider that an issue. As for our family no two-day period goes by where one of us is not vising her, so we just remember to bring her a little dietarily appropriate treat, and she is good to go.

Also, calling central scheduling is confusing some reps able to handle billing and some send you to a v.m to leave a message, I had to leave 2 messuages, because the prompts were misleading. I have many services through Mecy and should always be in the computer. Some how a duplicate account was created when i broke my tibia April 2026 delaying my care for months, I went to SSM. Vascular care from a new Mercy doctor was lacking concern for my issues with my legs during follow up, I went back to SSM. So far my cancer doctor is awesome. Staff always friendly. Its administration that needs to get on the ball.

I know not of one positive thing, I can share. Nursing staff is lazy and rude. A nurses aid abused me daily. My family reported this. We were assured by the Head of Nursing & the Supervisor they were so sorry, she would be moved to another floor. One week later she was back in my room. It could take 3 hrs. to get something for pain. Cleaning was not a top priority. The food smells disgusting, looks disgusting and taste disgusting. I left early so sick I went to the ER. Nurses at NHC kept telling me there was nothing wrong with me. Yet when I would walk 12 steps my oxygen dropped to 71. Oxygen should never drop lower than 88. In the ER doctors would each ask where have you been. NHC of course. NHC is infested with numerous bacteria. I acquired 5 of them, Pneumonia, Corona Virus, MRSA, Rhino Virus & Para Influenza. I ended up in hospital for 9 days on intense antibiotics. Since I had this break in Physical Therapy insurance refused covering anymore. Even though I still had days left to use. Within an hour it changed to I was going home. I have stairs into the house that I have not been instructed to accomplish. Please don't do this to your family member.
