I don't exaggerate when I tell you he knows everything. He's explaining things to me as well as teaching his assistant. He gives great detailed options. This procedure went so smooth it was laughable. The entire tooth came out in one chunk and not pieces. And I didn't need the graft that may have been possible. Numbing before the needle made it painless. We got on the subject of his being Scottish which led to Scottish singers and bands. Bay City Rollers anyone? Turns out he was a DJ years back. Not only is Dr. Downie experienced and skilled, he is an excellent communicator. I have experienced such relief and renewed hope in his care. Thank you, Dr Downie

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Middling Dental Office--particularly with…read morethe office manager, Lisa--was both disturbing and deeply unprofessional. I called as a state employee in severe dental pain, seeking care from Dr. Midtling, who is listed as an in-network provider for my plan. I was met not with empathy, but with dismissiveness and hostility. Lisa immediately seemed irritated by my voice--perhaps making assumptions about me based on how I sound as a Black man--and made it clear she "didn't want to help," especially without a referral. I explained that I was told to speak directly with Dr. Midtling, and that I was in legitimate, urgent pain. Her response was to rudely talk over me, rush me off the phone, and when I pleaded for a moment to explain--saying "Jesus Christ, lady, just let me speak"--she abruptly hung up. What happened next was beyond unprofessional: Lisa took it upon herself to call me back on my state work phone to threaten me. Let that sink in: a patient, in pain, being harassed at work by a dental office staff member simply for trying to receive care. I don't know what kind of practice this is, or how behavior like this is allowed to continue--but I can say this is not how patients should be treated. Not with this level of hostility. Not with this level of disregard. And certainly not with this type of racial bias and power abuse. I deserve better. Every patient does.

Contrary to some of the other reviews seen here, I had a wonderful experience, and my daughters surgery went phenomenally well. I was impressed by the friendliness and the welcoming nature of the staff, and of the doctor, and the assistance that were attending my daughters surgery. She had no complications afterwards and healed very well. In a couple weeks I will be taking my son to the same clinic and Am thrilled to have the Same professionals attending him.

I was first told I needed a cleaning, then a gingivitis protocol (3 appointments) - though an outside dentist confirmed I never had gingivitis. Then I was told they couldn't use composite, so I'd need a crown. Then I was told before I could get crowns, I needed to straighten a SINGLE UNRELATED bottom tooth with motto liners - another $3,000. Then I was told I should whiten my teeth before crowns - another $500. THEN I was told I should get two crowns instead of one so my front teeth match - another $4,500. I was very explicit about wanting crowns 1 mm longer than my original front teeth (time had eroded their height significantly). My dentist told me to 'be picky' with the crowns. When they showed me my crowns, they were even smaller than my original teeth. I again asked for them to be made slightly longer, but my dentist declined/said he couldn't do that. AFTER placing the crowns, I was informed that I should not bite crunchy things (apples, carrots) with my front teeth - ever. I wish I would've known that before I got them. So, after a year and over $8,000, I have crowned front teeth that look smaller and much worse than the teeth I originally wanted fixed.

I'm terrified of doctors, needles, IV's, anything medical in any way, but Dakota Valley made me feel extremely comfortable. My nurse, Mary I think was her name, made me feel like I had known her for ages! She carried a conversation with me easily, trying to make me feel as comfortable as I could. And hearing about my fear of needles, she explained the process they were going to do, and the process I needed to do when all was said and done. They ended up giving me some laughing gas to make my nerves settle about the IV, which really seemed to help because I didn't even notice them slip the IV in! (With some help of some numbing cream around the area as well :P) and I was out before I knew it. I woke up in recovery with little pain, just seeing some "double vision" waiting for the meds to complete their process. Mary was patient and caring to my needs while in recovery, and even helped me out to the car where my ride was waiting so I didn't trip over my stumbling legs! She even called after a couple of hours to see how I was doing- Something no one in any doctor's office has EVER done before! Greatly appreciated!! Not to mention, they send you home a free container of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream- Choice of Strawberry, Vanilla, or Chocolate to get better! ;)
