I then sent an email through their website, explaining that I had contacted them regarding insurance but they never returned my call and now my open enrollment had closed . I expressed concern with their lack of follow-up. I never received a response to the email either. While Dr. Kim may be a proficient dentist, the office response to inquiries is poor. Dr. Jenkins informed me I had a chipped back molar that would require a crown. I tried to talk him out of it. He persisted. Said if I didn't get it taken care of, greater problems may develop. It could be more serious health wise with a greater impact on my pocketbook too. I came to my senses. I made an appointment for Dr. Jenkins to do my crown. It's not a fun process, people, yet necessary. Dr. Jenkins has a wonderful bedside manner, and his top-tier assistant, Miriam, was gentle, encouraging, and skilled. Three days later, the temporary crown popped off! Damn! I immediately called Johnson Family Dental, Goleta. They told me to come on in, which I did. Miriam took great care prepping my molar stub and re-gluing the temporary crown. A good friend of mine recommended Dr. Layus and although it's a bit more of a drive for me, I only usually visit the dentist twice a year so no biggie. Let me just say, I am so very very glad I switched! Dr. Layus is such a nice guy, and he made me feel very comfortable. I felt like he was honest and didn't try to upsell me the whole time (one of the reasons I left my previous dentist). He offers Invisalign, which I am very excited about because I've been considering doing it for a couple years now. My old dentist did not do Invisalign, so that's a huge plus. I am returning in a couple weeks to do a scan for Invisalign and will hopefully be able to get started soon after! The hygienist, Tatiana, was great and very knowledgeable about airway dentistry, which was another huge plus as I have recently been learning quite a bit about airway health, and she was able to give me some really wonderful insight. The woman at the front desk, Anayi (sorry if I got the spelling wrong) was really sweet and easy to work with. Overall I loved my experience here. My one and ONLY very small complaint is just that the waiting room is really small. But it's an older building, and they have made it look really nice and updated inside. The bathroom was clean (really important to me), and the whole office was decorated cute with beach and surf photos. I forgot to grab photos at my first visit, but I will be going back in a couple weeks to do my Invisalign scan and will update my review with photos then!

I had two operations (a chipped tooth and a crown) and cannot imagine anyone else doing a better job. My first tooth was chipped from a night of too much fun. He was able to sculpt a new one! A work of art! The crown could have very easily become a root canal, but he was able to save me from that. There is no getting around pain when someone is drilling into your mouth, but he somehow keeps it to a minimum. Through every step and process, he makes sure to keep you well informed of the assessment, all your options, and the best course of action. I'd had it for more than 20 years, so of course, it had to come off when I was out of town. After looking up dentists who were open (with good reviews!), I called Kendall, Rohde & Associates, and was informed I could come in. Dr. Munoz could sense that certain things bothered me (e.g. the sound of some devices), so she'd suggested I put in headphones as a distraction.
