The Montessori approach to education equips children to create, challenge and think on their own. I also like that elementary grade children seem to have a lot more movement throughout the day due to the programs design.

Located in Home Moravian Church, this half-day program is divided into inside and outside activities that are child-led. They offer two, three or five day options. The classrooms are full of simple, intentional toys that provide opportunities for children to solve problems and collaborate with others! The outside space is a simple, natural playground with sand boxes, gardens and "mud kitchens" where kids can use their imaginations. All of this is covered with sunshades for the hotter part of the year. The proximity to Old Salem allows the older children to explore the many sights with the guidance of their teachers. From the perspective of a parent, the school is very intentional about providing resources to help in continuing the Montessori method at home. . I feel like I have learned as much as my children! I have two children in Salem Montessori (one in the younger toddler and one in the three to six class) and both have thrived! If a half-day program fits your schedule, this school is the best option for your children to grow and learn!

We were thrilled when our younger one got picked from the lottery to enroll in this charter school,…read moreand we were really excited when our older one got picked as well (they give preference to siblings attending the same school). My kids have made friends and seem to like it here. There isn't bus service, but I would have had to drive and pick my kids up either way due to bus driver shortages. This is a small school, and the faculty know everyone and their kids here, which is refreshing compared to a larger school. They also don't give homework, which my kids and I love not having that eat up our afternoons for no reason. They claim to teach a regular curriculum but with an artsy twist, making the learning fun and engaging. As far as how much they actually live up to that claim, my older one indicates that they tend to be lacking in that department. Still, I think we prefer it here to your standard public school.

The idea is to teach them lessons not only through words, but also visual, audio, and even performance lessons. Dance class is the dance of the molecules. While the current science lesson would be the phases of matter. Plenty of overlap and reinforcement. My kids LOVE it there. They dont notice the lack of a traditional gymnasium. Teachers are all very nice. Tutoring and special assistance is available for kids that need it. And the parent community is very invovled - and non judgy... because most of us are artists. All these reasons are why I have a third child starting there in the fall.

June 28, 2026 HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED I am beyond disappointed…read moreand heartbroken by the way Walkertown High School and the Carolina Classic Fairgrounds handled graduation on June 28, 2026 at 6:00pm. Graduation is one of the most important milestones in a student's life. Families wait years for this moment, make travel arrangements, take time off work, and spend significant money to be there and support their graduate. Unfortunately, what should have been one of the happiest days of our lives turned into an extremely upsetting and unforgettable disappointment. Several members of my family traveled all the way from Florida specifically to watch my daughter walk across the stage and receive her diploma. My sister, brother-in-law, aunt, cousin, and other close family members made the trip to North Carolina for this once-in-a-lifetime event. My oldest son and his girlfriend were also there to support her. Despite having valid graduation tickets, they were denied entry because the venue had reached capacity. My question is simple: Why were so many tickets distributed if there were not enough seats available to accommodate the people holding those tickets? A ticket should guarantee admission. If the venue did not have enough seating, then the number of tickets issued should have reflected the actual capacity. Instead, families were left standing outside while a milestone they can never get back happened inside. What makes this even more frustrating is that we had family members inside holding seats for those who were arriving. Yet they were still refused entry. My family paid for flights, transportation, and lodging to attend this special occasion, only to be turned away at the door and miss the entire ceremony. The staff at the entrance was so rude so unprofessional screaming at the top of their lungs saying get out you're not allowed in.... Who behaves like this? How unprofessional, how embarrassing. I had just traveled to Florida to see my nephew graduate and it was beautiful 531 students and the ceremony was amazing and EVERYONE was able to attend and be seated. There is no "next year" and there is no opportunity to redo this moment. My daughter only graduates from high school once. The memories we should have made together were taken away because of poor planning and a lack of consideration for the families who were there to celebrate their graduates. Walkertown High School and the Carolina Classic Fairgrounds owe families an explanation as to how this was allowed to happen. The emotional impact of this failure cannot be overstated. What should have been a proud and joyful day became a day filled with frustration, embarrassment, anger, and heartbreak. I sincerely hope changes are made so that no other family has to experience the disappointment that ours did. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN WALKERTOWN HIGH SCHOOL IN WALKERTOWN NC THE STAFF BEHIND THIS AND THE TICKETS GIVEN OUT AND CAROLINA CLASSIC FAIRGROUNDS IN WINSTON SALEM, NC
