McColl - it now frequents the same building as a hairdresser. It's a handy wee post office, nevertheless. Not as many amenities or stock as some, but they offer all of your basic services. I drop in here once in awhile when I have a package to post, and they're always very quick and helpful. Very sharp about their lunch and closing times, though, so make sure you spare yourself plenty of minutes before they close, or they might not get to you.

What is amazing is this newsagent can manage to cram all this stuff into the shop! However, even though it is quite a small shop and has all these goods, the shop isn't too overcrowded, a miracle at that! I have so far made out that this newsagent is just like any other, however there is quite a nice bonus to this place - it sells ice cream! Yes, this newsagent does not just specialise in newspapers, but also in selling ice creams! And on a hot summers afternoon in Stockbridge it is mighty tempting! The shop has quite a range of ice creams, but the range is slightly limited (Due to the size of the shop I imagine!), but the ice cream I had certainly was certainly enjoyed!

Not only does it sell the usual newspapers and sweets, but it also sells toys and gift. Most of these are quite cheap, but its quite nice to see a newsagents still trying to tempt children with toy cars and sea side paraphernalia. The other twist to this shop is its wide selection of good sweets. Town Crier don't just offer Cadbury's, but also a wide variety of traditional confectionery, served from traditional tall tubs. Like seemingly all shops in Queensferry, from curry houses to funeral directors, it also serves ice cream. A great newsagents that stands out just a little. I should also add that the staff here were very friendly when I was a bit lost and asked for directions.

The newsagent sells the usual papers and magazines, where you can also order in and reserve specific titles. They also sell crisps, ice cream and sweets, including the traditional sweets that come in big tubs and are charged by weight. They also stock little souvenirs, trinkets and post cards all aimed at tourists as South Queensferry regularly has cruise liners docking in the forth.

Even when you walk in, its shiny bright wooden flooring, its tidy shelves, its bright lit walls, make you think this is something greater. In reality it still offers the basic range of broadsheets and tabloids, confectionery, and some sandwiches and snacks. As Mark points out there is also a strangely small selection of household goods like cleaning products and toiletries. I still appreciate that Central Superstore make a touch more effort on presentation than most. With most newsagents looking quite homogeneous, at least this one stands out a little.

There isn't really much out of the ordinary in this place. Instead expect the usual array of broadsheet/tabloids, sweets, cigarettes and a few household essentials. I respect these independent newsagents for surviving against the odds but I do sometimes feel they could make an effort to stand out. Prices are average. The staff were friendly and welcoming when I popped in. A standard newsagents with all you expect to go with it.

However, as you step inside this shop to explore it, you find out that this shop sadly has drifted away from that old fashioned newsagent. Yes, it has the traditional tubs of hard boiled sweets that are found in every coastal village; however this place has gone further than that. It is sadly now focused on goods for tourists! And if you ask me, it is a whole load of tack, stuff that people really do not need and do not represent the place that tourists have just seen! It has all your normal newsagent luxuries but I wouldn't buy a paper with some tennis balls!
