I felt like a movie star the way they laid out all their gloves in front of me. I was guided on size and how to wear and care for my gloves. I walked away with 3 pairs of Italian leather gloves, and didn't even break my vacation budget!

Visiting Milan seemed like the perfect time to purchase a pair of Italian leather driving gloves directly from the country they're made, so I headed to the main luxury shopping district with a credit card and sense of sheer determination. The Sermoneta shop is small yet inviting, with pleasant enough salesclerks working behind the counter. They'll size you up based on looking at your hands and will pull out a huge basket of every glove option in stock that will fit. Don't expect any literal hand holding here, these ladies were European cool and no-nonsense. You're welcome to try on as many gloves as you wish, and I recommend you do so to find the ones that look and fit the best. Also watch out for popped stitching before you buy as these are handcrafted items. The gloves here are absolutely beautiful, the leather buttery soft and the colors vibrant. I wanted a pair of fingerless gloves for those hot Las Vegas summer days but I also fell in love with a full-fingered pair of two-toned purple and cream gloves so I had to get those too. You can go as simple or as fancy as you wish, think anything from basic snaps, extravagant bows, sparkling rhinestones, or simple pull-on styles. I wanted beauty with functionality so I passed on the froufrou accoutrements and kept it conservative. These aren't cheap gloves by any means (expect to spend $75 - $200U.S. per pair), but my two pairs are super high quality, are gorgeous, and it's fun to tell the story when I wear my Italian driving gloves that I purchased in Milan whenever I get behind the wheel of my new Porsche.

I am used to the resell concept of thrift stores in the US, which are awesome. Stores like Plato's…read moreCloset, Uptown Cheapskate, Style Encore, Buffalo Exchange, etc. all have the clever concept of using their customers for inventory. Depending on what you have and what your expectations are, it can be a great experience to change up your wardrobe "on the cheap" and "recycle" clothes without being wasteful. I heard about Bivio sometime ago, learning that the founder is from the US and conceptualized Bivio to mimic the stores I mentioned earlier in Milan. Customers are able to book buying appointments in advance (for Autumn/Winter this year, they opened up slots end of August, and they got booked immediately...). I wanted to see how the experience compared to stores back in the states, so I made appointments here and at the Gian Giacomo Mora spot... ...unfortunately, I was not impressed. I was quite disappointed that it was like every other thrift store in Milan (except maybe Humana Vintage...) in that the inventory was mostly "mid-to-high" designer and retail prices...that is not thrift anymore, that's ripping off customers. I also did not have success with selling. My items were "too light" for winter, even though I had a number of sweaters? Perhaps I should note I tend to run warm, and don't have many thick, heavy winter garments that the Italians wear in layers once winter hits! For me, a sweater is enough even at 10 degrees Celcius or 50 degress farenheit! For me, I'll pass on Bivio, and take advantage of thrifting in the States.

Timing has to be lucky. Unfortunately, the men's selection is not very good. For women, if you're a shopper, Bivio 4 and Bivio 12 can be gold mines.
