The jukebox plays good tunes, some regulars go outside for a smoke, and can get a little handsy with one another. So basically, a great place for people watching. The menu is small, but...Holy cow! The burgers are phenomenal! Again, not a huge menu, but who cares. Burgers are sizable, juicy and cooked to perfection. The fries were also very good, cooked crispy and piping hot. Worst experience I've ever had at any bar/ restaurant or even public facility ever! Bartender was beyond rude when my friends and I walked in. Immediately told us if we are not buying alcohol we need to get the **** out. Didn't even give us a chance to order before giving us attitude proclaiming we were loitering. Not for everyone, but it's a nice friendly place to go. You can call it a dive bar or a neighborhood bar. The owner (cook) and bartenders have all worked there for decades, and they know allmost all the patrons, since most of the patrons are regular. The regular patrons are friendly as well. Went here with my boss and a coworker for lunch once, and I was pretty skeptical at first. My boss warned us beforehand that it was kind of a dive.. I had a burger (medium) with grilled onions, cheddar, and bacon. It was delicious. The grilled onions were sweet and sticky, and the bacon tasted great and bacony. The burger itself was cooked to perfection with perfect juiciness, and the bun was hot and buttery. This might be one of the best burgers I've had out. The onion rings I had were kind of bad. They were much too breaded, and ended up being slightly hard to chew. All in all, 5 stars for the burger, -1 star for the atmosphere (dirty, kind of awkward if you're not a regular). read more

The burgers at Jake Moran's are absolutely fantastic. Add fries and a beer and it'll still only cost you about $10. That being said, Jake Moran's probably isn't for everybody. Like Nate P. mentioned, this is a house converted into a dive bar. There aren't very many tables, and on the weekend it can get pretty noisy. On the other hand, I've been there on weeknights and been the only one there. As long as you're OK with the atmosphere, stop in, because you're not going to find a better burger anywhere in the area. read more

Went there at midnight as soon as i turned 21. The casino me in with a vertical ID. most bars would. I even looked up the law for illinois and it said its ok to sell when its legally midnight or the day i turn 21. I guess they just cant accept vertical ID's even though i was legally 21 and the license was not expired. Had a an appointment at the DMV in the morning to get my new license that wasn't going to change their mind. I do not blame the girl who turned me down she was just doing whatever her boss or the owner told her to do. Its just difficult because i even tried to call the number that apple maps gives me for this establishment and couldnt connect wasnt a valid number. Sent me and my buddies on a disappointing walk home. Was really a buzz kill. I guess i will come back when the dmv sends me my new ID. Will be going to the casino in des plaines. You could easily drive by this place and not even notice. I first came here because my coworker suggested our team go there for lunch. When we got there, I was surprised because it seemed like someone's home. I'm pretty sure it is someone's house. But don't let the exterior fool you. They have the best burgers. It's pretty simple and to the point but they absolutely knock it out of the park. The burgers are juicy and just greasy enough to fill your cravings but not so greasy you feel sick afterwards. Their fries are pretty awesome too. Sometimes, they don't change the oil frequently enough so the fries have a really strange taste but that's really rare. Man, these are the best burgers. I'm here from Texas for school and I thought I'd never find just a decent burger joint. But Jakes is more than just decent, it's awesome. It's been a while for me. Like long enough that if this bar/restaurant was a first date - I might consider overlooking the deficiencies and focus on the bigger picture. And then she brought out our sandwiches. Myself and another in our party had burgers. Thick sliced onion, a generously buttered and grilled bun and a juicy and tasty patty cooked to order good stuff. The tomato was thick sliced but insipid almost disappointed to even be created a winter tomato having been denied it's summer flavor potential. My friend had a bacon chicken grill which he enjoyed thoroughly. But back to the poppers - each was 1/2 a sliced pepper generously stuffed with cream cheese or cheddar, battered and fried served piping hot with ranch that had just the right amount of pepper for this ranch loving Midwestern girl. Yes, it's a dive bar. For sure. And it wouldn't be my choice for a late night hang out really. But to watch a game, grab carry out, eat a Saturday afternoon burger with friends - absolutely. The server we had was friendly. The owner I can only imagine that was him was outside washing windows. A BLT is 8 dollars and has 2 inches of lettuce on top of 2 strips of bacon. Tuesday tacos tho!!! Just get there right when they start because they will be out of them within 10 minutes despite the 7 people there. Have your order ready for a drink too because you have a 5 second window to decide what else you want because there are out of every beer too...then they walk away as if they are busy. Can't stress enough the deadbeat owner goes nearly every night and the very few bartenders that aren't total shits will become that way because he encourages it. We went out for lunch as a group of 7 from work on Monday and all had phenomenal burgers for lunch. A perfectly cooked medium rare burger with a must add grilled onions on a delicious bun served with fries for an extra buck. With tip it came out to $10 a head. The only negative (for some) is the size of the place. It is a converted house into a dive bar/restaurant. When you walk in you will some locals having their afternoon beers playing the one golden tee machine and watching the news on an overwhelming amount of flat screen tv's placed throughout the place but there are only 5 or so tables and the rest of the place is filled with an oversized bar. I suggest getting there at 11:30ish as described by some of my friends who have been going there for years if you want a table to sit at as opposed to the bar for lunch. What a cool neighborhood dive bar! I just happened upon the place, and was a bit intimidated walking in shortly after midnight on a Monday, but I ended up having a great experience. The bartender, Aiden I believe, seamed weary of an out of town face at first, but was beyond friendly and personable after a few minutes. The local crowd was fun, down to earth, and talked sports and traveling. The drinks were reasonable, and the bar was a unique, home like atmosphere. Decor was slummy, bar tender was extremely crass talking about getting drunk or high, burger seems nothing more than a frozen patty on a butter soaked bun, fries were lame and cole slaw was laughable, but the ranch for the onion rings was pretty good. Yes this mainly is a bar however they hands down have the best burger around. Juicy, made to order, onions rings crispy, and the staff remembers you even though you are not a regular. We are odd drinking wine with our burgers instead of beer, but you are eating the equivalent of a steak when you eat one of these. Slaw is great too! read more

Great place ! Moved back from the city to the burbs and missed my local corner tavern until I found this place. Billy the owner is GREAT. Burgers are the BEST, ranch dresing is SO good I love to dip my fries in it and the slaw is awesome.
