Great for college age students learning English. There is a great open window for the view over the ocean side of Ala Moana. Great couch and place to chill. High enough up on building to look over the new goings on at Ala Moana mall. Staff are helpful and want the students to enjoy living in Hawaii. Bathrooms are oddly placed in the building on the floor- just odd. Many of the students are Asian or European and many just come to the school to go to language school.

Not wanting to hoof it to study at da HPU library 1-2 blocks away near Bishop St. OR study outside on da numerous tables + seats da line Fort Street (I sked I gonna catch TB or a disease from somebody), I go hea to relax, kaukau + study befoa my classes. HOURS? During regular school year, Mon - Fri, 7 AM - 6 PM (closed during HPU holidays). For this summer 2012, hours are Mon - Fri, 8 AM - 5 PM (May 14 - Aug. 31, 2012) AC, BABY! Especially welcoming on da days wen downtown no mo' trades + da weather makes you feel as if you're up someone's armpit SAFE, WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT. Patronage of this area is limited to HPU students with a valid student ID. No need worry, beef curry, about having bums ask you fo' money, seeing druggies tweak out after their highs, etc. I have empathy fo' da kine populations, but wen I stay paying my hard-earned money to attend college at mo' den $1K PER COURSE, get some tings I no like deal with as I go about my college biz. STUDY, RELAX, REPEAT. There's about a dozen study cubicles situated in da back if you hardcore l'dat + really need to get some studying in. A large screen TV with comfy chairs is available in da middle of da room, and get a few addah sofas + comfy chairs scattered around. PC/PRINTER/WI-FI. The HPU's wi-fi system is available fo' your smartphone, netbook, laptop, or addah kine electronic device. You'll need a login + password. It's not meep-meep RR fast, but respectable enough. If you no mo' computer, get 4 PCs available to log into + utilize fo' writer papers, surf da 'net + print out. Mind you, da buggahs are a wee slowwwwwww. FAVE PLACE TO STUDY ON CAMPUS! I've come here every single freakin' week dis past spring semester + I totally love it. HPU students might not be aware of its existence, esp. since it just opened in Sept. 2011. It has changed. It's a nice place to get together with others and there's a TV, but on mute with subtitles. Along with the couches, there's cubicles/desk areas where you can study / sleep / whatever you please on your own. Three computers on the side if you rather not go to the computer lab and bathrooms in the back area. There's also offices for faulty, the student government meet in a room near the entrance and mailboxes for RSO's are hidden in the hallway. Remember, have your ID ready before walking in!

As an undergraduate, I spent a lot of time here from chillin in the courtyard having some lunch, drinking it up in bale, practicing with the crew at the dance studios, or doing an interview at KTUH. Lots of good times here. This area can be utilized by both students and non students. On the ground floor area there is American savings bank, bale (only place on campus that serves drinks), ka Leo student newspaper place, barber shop, etc. On second floor has some dance studios and rooms for students to use and reserve, the dental hygiene program, KTUH (Student run radio station), etc. If you are a currently a student this is a great place to chill and hang out. It is an excellent resource on campus. Sometimes there's events that happen at the hemenway hall courtyard which is cool. There's a drink dispenser vending machine around the area. Hemenway hall is located right next to Sinclair library and not too far from campus center and university ave. across the street. I always come here every week for dance crew practices. So yeah definitely one of the coolest places on campus!

WAY BACK THEN.. This…read moreis based on my experience at Likelike Elementary when I was attending there approximately 18 years ago. When I looked back at how I was thought at Likelike in comparison to my friends who went to other Kalihi Schools, I felt like I came from a better educated elementary school. LOCATION The school is in the lower central area of Kalihi, but it is right near the Palama Off-ramp and Vineyard off-ramp/ on-ramp for easy commuting. It would be easy for parents to get on or off the freeway to get onto the school campus. The campus is much secured with a very tall fence shrouding its whole perimeter. There are also the JPO and adults guarding all entrances to the campus before and after school. During school hours the fences are locked shut so keep everyone safe. The parking lot entrance is still open, but it is far from the students so that no one would run away. STAFF The staff was great. The admin were diverse in race and easy to talk to. I visit the school from time to time to pick up my younger siblings. The vibe of the staff hasn't changed. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. As for the teachers, I had some every strict teacher and some are still there. Students like me hated those teachers back in school, but now that I look back on it, they were the only ones I remembered and the only ones I learned from. I believe the strict teachers here were not mean, but made you work hard. I learned a lot from these teachers and have turned out well due to their routines and habits they forced me to do when I was little. EDUCATION While I was there, I thought I learned everything I need to learn as an elementary student plus more. When comparing the knowledge I learned in elementary to the ones my friends learned, I knew more. I memorized a lot of American history facts, the constitution, all states, capitals, very spot on the map of each state, learned all the major seas, contents and a lot more. Many of my teachers in middle school were surprised. Also, there were a lot of extra help classes available. I was a very hyper student so I had a one-on-one guidance counselor that would help me settle down during reading time and taught me what I needed to learn in a way I would understand. There were also accelerated reading programs for students who were more advanced and ESLL for student who needed help reading. I loved how Likelike Elementary prepared me for life. I would send my kids here. It is a public school with staff and help like a private school.

I am a Kauluwela Elementary alumnus. I did a lot of school moving, and I believe I as at Kauluwela…read morefor kindergarden in 1987 and 1988. Then I transferred to Liholiho Elementary for first grade in 1988 and 1989. Thank goodness for yearbooks, because otherwise I would forget the year. I flunked first grade from Liholiho, and then in 1989 and 1990 I transferred back to Kauluwela for first grade. Though I was born and raised in Honolulu, English is my second language. I knew not my ABCs and I knew not how to read up to that point at Liholiho. I recalled I got pulled out of class at Liholiho where a teacher specialist mostly had me trace pictures. It was at Liholiho that I recalled that my first grade teacher popped in the 1989 Moonwalker VHS for our class to watch. After watching the Moonwalker film at Liholiho and at my family gatherings, my older sibling recorded me beatboxing, scat singing, and singing one of the songs from the Moonwalker film. I was six-years-old then. I still have the Liholiho Elementary picture taken of me on the playground holding an orange baseball bat. I do recall we were given seeds to plant around Liholiho Elementary... I chose the seed that would grow a blue flower. I planted it somewhere around the campus and as I grew older, I remember where I planted those seeds. I now see those blue flowers grown. Today, as an adult, I love to read daily, for fun and enjoyment. I love to write. I also help students with mathematics throughout the state of Hawaii. I also beatbox throughout the state of Hawaii and the world, speaking at conferences, and schools. Liholiho Elementary students were among 300 in attendance when I performed and spoke at the 25th Chevron Honolulu Speech Festival at the McKinley High School Auditorium. -Jason Tom

Homework was very tramautizing for me and way too much to handle for an elementary school student. There are a lot of strict rules since it is a Catholic school. I am glad I left before middle school, because it seemed to be much worse.
