It's changed a bit. Hell, so have I! But we're both totally worth it. We all need someplace to call our own. A place to be comfortable and safe. A place for gay men to talk and laugh and meet and share their thoughts without compromise. I applaud this bar for staying true to itself. I recall meeting one of the most attractive customers in this bar in the late 90s. Years later, I returned to find one of the most attractive and personable men tending bar here. The 15 patrons at the bar during our 5 minute visit were notably drunk... beyond the "happy and have a buzz" point and well into the "I'm unable to speak coherently and may be drooling on myself..." point. Don't get me wrong - we were absolutely visiting a bar but patrons that drunk were impossible to be around. Ambiance was undetermined as we couldn't see more than 2 foot in front of our own faces due to the lingering cigarette, tobacco, cigar and pipe smoke filling the entire establishment (please understand, this isn't being critical of smokers, as I am a smoker myself...) but ridiculous is an understatement. A pianist and stand-up bassist were prepared with a book of sheet music to choose from, or you're able to bring your own sheet music and they can essentially play it on the spot. After going again the following Tuesday (we had that much fun), we found that many of the singers are regulars, as are those that patron the bar. The staff and hosts of the evening are marvelously encouraging of anyone wanting to sing, so if your vocal cords are itching for an audience, it's a must.
