My student days in Stoke finished quite some years ago, however I still visit every now and then to see old friends. My friends favourite place to eat is Jaflongs which is situated right on the edge of the city centre, Hanley.
I'd visited here plenty of times during my student days, however it had certainly been a good three years since I'd last visited. Nothing has changed at all since my previous visit, the food was still exceptional, however the decor is seriously in need of an update.
I ordered the meat samosa to start. The casing was wonderfully crisp and not too greasy and the filling was full of flavour and perfectly seasoned.
For main, as always in an Indian, I ordered a lamb rogan josh. The dozens of spices used to create this dish worked perfectly combined with the rich tomato and chilli flavour. The meat was cooked extremely well and melted in the mouth. With my curry I shared pilau rice and a plain naan bread with my friends. Both were delicious and the bread had a nice crisp to the base giving it a little bit of crunch, which along with the fluffy rice, added an element of texture to the dish.
If you can overlook the dated decor this is the perfect Indian restaurant. read more
