This place was an absolute gem! We decided to drive out from Nashville to see a little something different. And it did not disappoint. We went during their Apple fest of Labor Day weekend. About an hour after opening it wasn't crowded at all. By 11/12 they had traffic directors and it started filling it. Parking was free and admission was free which really opened up the opportunity to partake in so many of the extras they had to offer!! The kids loved the playground and there were so many beautiful photo oops set up around the grounds. We also really loved their treats! The Apple slushees and the fried pies were so good. Their peach ice cream was amazing. And they had a donut truck there this weekend that was super fun too.

This place is nuts. Came here on a Sunday afternoon to pick up some apples and some pumpkins before Halloween. It was a little bit of an uphill trek to get here. Thank goodness I wasn't trying to ride my bike here- I don't think I would have made it. This seems to be the go-to place for families with small children and, a great photo op for all of Kentucky's Instagram models/ I think we're calling them "influencers" now (?). It really felt like the entire population of Kentucky was here all at the same time. It gets overwhelmingly busy. Fortunately, they had some people directing traffic and parking. Parking was free. A little bit of a bummer that they don't allow pets, but I get it. There is just too much going on, I know my pup would be wildly overwhelmed. Once I parked and made my way over, I walked around to see all that they have to offer. There are lots of treats for immediate consumption, treats to take home, pumpkins and apples literally everywhere you look, some other local foods (sauerkraut, jams, preservatives, baked goods, candy, cider etc), some local vendors, some tractor rides, a petting zoo, and an entire play area for children. Since I don't have children and every little thing cost money that I didn't plan on spending, I went back to the shop, got a bushel of apples, a few pie pumpkins, some sauerkraut and some fresh apple bread before heading out. The service left MUCH to be desired. I too, would be annoyed with having to deal with so many people, but these ladies weren't even trying. I had to tell them twice that I was ready to check out while standing at the register with all my food laid out in front of them before they stopped talking and started to ring me up. If I wasn't so determined to get my apples and pumpkins that day, I would have just left. Everything I bought was delicious, but I'm not entirely convinced it was worth the trip. Next year I think I'll just stick to the farmer's market.

We took our kids during the week, so the only activity available was the playground. The playground has a really cool set up, even our 16 yr old found some stuff to entertain herself. The treats are all reasonably priced and certainly worth the trip. We bought a couple mums and some goodies from their shop there, the cashier was quick and very nice. I really like the marinated mushrooms they have, there are a ton of things you wouldn't expect to see there that I am excited to try.

    Perfect photo op.

Lately this place has turned into a haven for rude, crude and inconsiderate people who have absolutely no regard for their fellow patrons. What is worse is that the management and employees simply do not care regardless of how many times this is brought to their attention. I am a disabled combat veteran and I struggle with getting into and out of my vehicle. Being able to open the door on my car fully so that I can lift my left leg and place it outside of the car is important to my being able to get out of my car. 90% of the time I am not able to and struggle because most parking slots are too close together or other drivers are parked close to the edge of their spot. The handicapped slots at this location are directly in front of the side door which makes access easy. People however do not seem to care about the fact that both the Federal government and the State of Kentucky have laws in place requiring businesses to provide these space for handicapped patrons. Every week without fail, someone is illegally parked in the handicapped spaces. They have no Handicapped plates, stickers or placard indicating that they are indeed "legally" handicapped. To make matters worse, the management does absolutely nothing to ensure the spaces are used correctly. Despite my many complaints as well as the complaints of others, nothing is done. They simply do not care. As if that wasn't bad enough, the issues at the pumps are even worse. Since Crossroads is a small "grocery" store, they have alot more than a normal convenience stores. Patrons however seem to think that the fueling area is nothing more than a parking lot. They will pull into the fueling area, get out of the car and go inside to conduct their business before coming out to fuel their vehicle and leave. My wife and I actually sat and watched as a woman took 20 minutes or more before coming out of the store with a SHOPPING CART fuel of groceries, unloading it into a vehicle sitting at a fuel pump. Again, the management simply does not care and despite the number of complaints that patrons make about the issue, the management simply does nothing. I have written multiple emails and letters to the company as a whole, addressing this issue and after almost a year of dealing with it, have yet to hear from a single person. The owners and management of this company simply do not care. They want your money and want you in and out in a hurry. For a "convenience" store, there is nothing convenient about this location at all. Houchens Industries, the owners of these stores need to wake up and start training their management properly. The management then need to have the integrity and backbone to enforce the rules and tell patrons to either act accordingly or go somewhere else. The situation is simply pathetic.

The dill chicken salad was sooo good, we grabbed a container to take home. I got a cup of chili, consisting of ground beer or turkey and a lot of veggies, it was tasty and had a tiny kick of heat to it.. but I wouldn't have minded some beans, too. The service was a bit slow and not the most friendly, but it was Thanksgiving weekend so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I did get to sample my chili before ordering, which was nice, but they forgot to bring my order out alongside the chicken salad sandwich, and when we went to ask for it, there was nobody at the counter for a while to help. This may have impacted the overall rating more but we really did love that chicken salad!
