Every dentist I went to wanted to do at least $12K worth of work on getting my front teeth back in line and filling in areas where my gums had receeded. Dr. VanHaren understood that I just wanted to have a nice smile again but didn't want to spend more that a couple thousand dollars. He agreed to try his best in restoring my front teach and definately put his U of M dental education to test! He and his assistant talked through the procedure as they performed it and gave me the smile I was looking for!!!!! No other dentist wanted to waste their time trying to fix my teeth but Dr. VanHaren stepped up to the plate and hit a home run! His office staff is super nice and helpful as well and his hygienist uses newer technology to make sure your teeth are maintained in the best way possible. Great office that I highly recommend!

You see, I've been a victim of 1960's/70's fix-it dentistry growing up. We all were during that time, it was just the way things were done. Then when I moved to Grand Rapids, I had about seven dentist's from 1981 to today. No I'm not bothered by dentistry, I changed doctors for many reasons, I moved, too costly, one died, one was a business friend and a couple of dentists retired on me. They all seemed to do a good job......or so I thought. Then when my last dentist retired and this young guy took over his practice, I was not too pleased. I was tired of changing dentists and I liked the previous doc. But something happened that I never expected. Dr. Andy Van Haren's dentistry skills and knowledge were amazing. The quality of workmanship (sounds odd to say) when he fixed an old filling was excellent. And then it dawned on me after about a year at his office. All the dentists I had before him were just average at best. I never knew what excellent dentistry could be like, because I had the bad luck of always being in the chair of an average to awful dentist. As a self employed 56yr old man who is in excellent health, learn from my bad luck. Choose this dentist "Dr. Andy Van Haren" to do excellent work on your teeth at a very fair cost. I cringe when I think about and look at what my previous dentists did to me. I'm so happy I crossed paths with this professional, talented young dentist who has a real passion for making the extra effort- to do the job right, using the latest technology and techniques in the business. While they try to work with insurances, they draw a hard line at using amalgams and only use composite resins. Since my insurance does not cover the latter, my family is potentially "on the hook" for the difference (BTW, they have generally only billed up to the amount allowed for the amalgam).

I went in for a checkup on a tooth and he told me that drinking milk causes my teeth to decay and that I needed about $5,000 worth of work done on my teeth. He showed me 4 pictures of my teeth and pointed out what he thought were major problems and he told me that his pricing is in the middle of all dentists in the area. I then asked if I could take home and review the x Rays I paid for and his Assistant said no I did not pay for those ex rays. (He tried to scare me into paying thousands of dollars in services) It turns out I have a few cavities; I have a real uneasy feeling about this dentist and believe he is trying to overcharge.

It's been almost a month since I had scans done and I've yet to talk to the doctor to go over what was found.
