We went to Jacks Bistro on the recommendation of the hotel desk. They said they book more tables there for gringos than anywhere else. Generally a good room, small but comfortable, reservations needed if you want to sit inside (a/c). Service was excellent.
We ordered a fish (sole they said) and shrimp combo and a pepper steak. Neither was great, but neither was awful either. Portions were moderate, ok for us, but some may feel short changed. Pepper steak is one of our home cooking specialties, and honestly I think our home cooked ones best this pretty easily. The fish and shrimp were ok but not great. I sensed that the raw materials were maybe not the best.
My honest view is that they're working with maybe just average quality produce, compounded by that they are slightly 'mailing it in'. Is fresh seafood available in Manzanillo?
We haven't eaten at enough places in Manzanillo to say Jack's is disappointing, but after a week of dining in Lake Chapala our expectations were that we'd get similar food in Manzanillo, but this was a C+/B- at best. read more
