I can still remember going in there when people would be smoking up a storm, and I would always go looking for the one old man with the great smelling pipe. While some of the supporting cast has changed, Jay remains there as the constant, ever-present in his middle chair. The place as a whole has not changed much over the years, though they recently added an HDTV and DirecTV. Some people may think this would take away from the casual barbershop conversation, but it has only enhanced it. This is one of those stereotypical barbershops where you could easily go in and spend the whole day talking to people about anything and everything. The atmosphere is small town, laid back, and relaxed. Out of all the haircuts I've had from different barbers in my life, Jay is the only one who has never screwed it up. Whether it was carving lightning bolts when I was 8, to a flat top in my teens, now thankfully to something a little more professional, Jay gets it right every time, and for a fraction of the cost of almost everyone else.

I had a very poor experience at this barber shop. After my appointment, I had to leave to retrieve…read moremy cash (my chip was not working) and returned maybe 5 minutes later. When I came back, I politely raised a concern about my haircut, specifically that he did leave a noticeable bald spot that I do not have. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the barber immediately became defensive, argumentative, and dismissive. Rather than listening or trying to understand the issue, he flat-out denied any problem and insisted that my hair was "thinning," which was both inaccurate and unnecessary. (All I did up to this point was mention what he did) I explained that I am very familiar with my own hair and would know if my hair was thinning, I want to also mention that I'm 21, but the conversation continued to be met with resistance and attitude instead of any willingness to resolve the concern. He then insults me saying "your hair is thinning everywhere". At no point did I raise my voice or act disrespectfully--I simply expected a reasonable, professional response. The interaction ended with me being waved off without any attempt to acknowledge the issue or offer any form of resolution. I'm not sure if it was because I'm Hispanic or if he's just a very upset human being. Other than that, the haircut still sucked, the lines weren't straight, you can still see the lines in my hair that he didn't fade out correctly, he also cut too much off the top.
