Although the price was in line for the value. I chatted with Jessie and he was very down to earth with great stories about Warhol. I was impressed with the well curated pieces that did not disappoint based on the artist names screaming from their exterior wall. I did fall in love with a piece that was not right for my home, but considered it. An incredible piece of mirrored artistry that ever so slightly resembled a matador, if you knew how to look at it. Our kids' elementary school had a class art project on Dale Chihuly so knowing that the Imago Gallery displayed several of his pieces made for a fun learning experience with the kids. Is this family-friendly? I guess with anything "art" related the content might not be suitable for children. None of the exhibits were bad on this visit but the art does rotate over time. You can always ask the women working there if there's anything of concern. Also, there were a lot of displays at knee level which is something to be aware of if you have toddlers or poorly behaved children. All though I couldn't agree more on some aspects of that I have to say that there are a lot of things in the C.V that will leave one with a different impression. Imago Galleries is one of them. Their opening art receptions have always been good. Though I no longer live in the area the openings in the past have alwas been good. They also participate in the art walk that happens every first Thursday of the month in Palm Desert have always been good. (note: art walk only happens during the cooler season) Imago is located off of Monterrey going toward HWY 74. You can't miss this gallery it is the only self standing beautiful minimal building with an enormous yellow glass sculpture piece done by the artist Dale Chihuly. Inside the gallery is of two levels. The courtyard is also fun to roam around with sculptures outside. It's just fun to come in and walk around. Imago is also within walking distance to El Paseo which boast many high end stores and boutiques and really good restaurants.. The bottom line is there is not a lot of selection unless you're really into pop art. I will never shop here again. Lesson learned. Very bad business sense. 5-Star Review After…read morea very frustrating series of framing failures at Mitre & Bevel in Cathedral City, Art Works Gallery & Picture Framing Center in Palm Desert restored my faith in professional picture framing. I am a professional artist preparing work for an upcoming exhibition on a tight deadline. Mitre & Bevel had repeatedly cut rabbet openings too small for my stretched canvases--three separate times--blamed the artwork instead of their poor workmanship, and refused to properly stand behind their work. I was left with only a few days to find a solution before my exhibition delivery deadline. I brought my painting and some older frame pieces to Art Works Gallery & Picture Framing Center and explained the situation and the urgency. The difference was immediate. The owner treated me professionally, respectfully, and knowledgeably. She understood the issue instantly, measured the canvas properly, allowed correct clearance in the rabbet (as any competent framer should), and even cut down and reworked the existing frame pieces I brought in to create a proper fit. This was done as a rush job, and the frame opening was cut perfectly--the canvas dropped in cleanly, sat flat, and required no shaving, forcing, or compromise. No excuses. No blame-shifting. Just correct craftsmanship. My painting was framed immediately and correctly, and delivered in time for my exhibition without stress or drama--confirming that the canvas had never been the problem. If you are a professional artist, collector, or anyone who values their artwork, this is the frame shop you want. Art Works Gallery & Picture Framing Center clearly understands proper museum framing standards, takes pride in their work, and treats customers with professionalism and respect. After dealing with poor workmanship and poor customer service at Mitre & Bevel, this shop was a breath of fresh air. I come from a long line of artists including the Currier from Currier and Ives family. Phyllis Johnson really knows her artwork and was ecplaining what techniques the various artists use to achieve their artwork. The gallery has mainly modern style with very realistic looking paintings that almost look like a photo more tgan a painting. I especially liked the paintings of chefs at work, and an amazing painting of champagne glasses, that looked more like a photo than a painting. I also loved the acrylic modern artwork that was a splash of colors, created.by an artist who was inspured by his wifes garden. They also have a number of bronze statues of children at play, both life size and in miniature size. Be sure to ask for Phylis, she is truly a walking encyclopedis.
