They have everything you can possibly need just in case you might run out before your next big shop. I expected it to be dear but it wasn't. They always have some ofers on like 2 bottles of wine for £5 or more expensive wine at 2 for £10. I bought 2 bottles of Jacques fruit cider for £5.50 which I thought was great as it is about that per bottle at Sainsburys. They have a good line of newspapers and magazines plus don't forget you can buy your lottery ticket there and if you need to top up your electric or gas or even your mobile phone you can do it there too. I was in there the other day and wanted some coffee but it was right up on a high shelf near the counter so I had to ask the lad behind the till to get it for me. He was more than happy and he is nearly 7ft tall so it was no problem to him.

I told him I was not interested. Then he asked me for my number and told he he can just show his boss that he is actually trying to sell papers and at least he will be getting some credit. Lapse of judgment, I gave him my number. To make a long story short, our apt building started to receive the paper once a week. Then I get a renewal invoice from Mercury News. I called the Mercury Newspaper and found out a email was created, start a new subscription, an email that I NEVER CREATED!!!! Furious, I told the rep that this is fraud and identity theft. furthermore, I wanted a email confirmation from them stating they closed the account and what actions do they plan to take on this individual. They stated they will get back to me in 2 days. We will see.

The newsagent sells a vast range of newspapers and magazines, pretty much anything you can think of! They also sell a decent range of cards, soft drinks, gifts, confectionery, local maps (town plans), etc. The staff are friendly and efficient, so although Mercury News is always busy, there's never much of a queue. The Post Office is a fairly sizeable branch situated at the back of the shop. They do all the jobs you expect a post office to do, posting parcels, car tax, premium bonds, passports etc, and the staff are much like in the newsagent, good natured, but efficient. The combination of the two businesses makes Mercury News a very useful shop!

WHsmith is a retail store, and is located on the high street in long eaton town centre, whsmith…read moresells books, cd's, magazines and much more. whsmith also supply a wide range of stationary, much like partners across the road on the high street. whsmith have a large selection of the latest books, and magazines from all categories, some specialist books such as train and plane magazines can be found here, these magazines cannot be found in your local tesco, or asda, so whsmith are a great asset to long eaton. whsmith are not the best for price for cds in there long eaton store, alot of which can be found ironicly in tesco for much cheaper, which is one of whsmiths rivals as its located close by. Overall great store, with lots of choice for magazines etc.

Two or three stalls selling local chicken and duck eggs - much nicer eggs than those from the supermarkets - with lots of double yokers.

A few small hiccups occurred due to my working on an Imac and the material from Tom arriving in Word format. It didn't help either that I am only semi- computer literate and am in my 80's. Luckily my niece Joanna also had a big input and was also responsible in finding Bannister Publications in the first place. Tom Blyth's guidance in the book's style, typeface, binding and colour etc was invaluable. All in all, a very satisfactory and pleasing outcome to a great many months of my work, more months from my late brother Peter and several years from my late Father, the author of the family history just published as "The Bellamy Chronicles".
