My main goal was to fix some composite trex planks where some were raised and some sinking. I…read moreanticipated wood rot. My secondary goal for a later time was for someone to take a look at the structural integrity of our deck and our railings as our deck was about 20 years old and I've been told the railings were not done correctly. Sekona and his team (Richard and Sean), immediately identified key structural areas while also addressing the wood rot planks. They basically replaced about half my decks joists, 5 posts that hold up the deck (they were rotted in the middle where the wood braces are nailed), the fascia surrounding the whole deck and strengthened by railings with posts. My anticipated some job turned into a big job and I feared the worse for cost. Thank God the cost was reasonable and more importantly, Richard and Sean had one of the strongest work ethics I haven't seen in a while. Laione (the owner), explained to me that their goal is for me to not see them again, meaning they did their job right. They replaced the wood rot, repaired some wood rot where they could with a wood hardener and used bondo to cover it. They later covered the joists and other areas with a deck joist barrier tape that prevents wood rot on the joists and the tape is self sealing when screwing the planks into the joists. I'm probably not doing Sekona's team justice as they did so much and I'm still learning on what they did and why. Richard and Sean were personable, professional and cleaned up after themselves every day. They took the time to explain to me what they were doing and how I can do this in the future for areas that were not yet affected by wood rot. They gave me a lot of tips on how to prolong the life of my deck. As they were finishing up , Richard even replaced two very old waterproof outlets that were attached to my deck. One of the final things Richard was going to do was power wash my deck due to the red dirt, caulking, etc , that were tracked on my deck from all the work they did underneath the deck...I told them no as they worked so hard and I wanted to do something myself to at least try and impress my wife. Side note, I had a great contractor that I've always called in the past, but, he moved to Seattle, WA and I thought I would never find another one as good as him....I was wrong, I found someone equally as good!!! Lastly, Richard said something to me as I thanked him for a great job and his response really stuck with me (I'm pretty sure this is the mentality of Sekona), I'm paraphrasing now......'I'm not doing this for you Brad, I'm doing this for the next contractor you may hire so they can see the job we've done'. I highly recommend Sekona Contractor Hawaii...they are simply outstanding and they take great pride in their work and they stand by it! They really go that extra mile.

I've used this company for 2 jobs. I would recommend them for kitchen and bath countertops but NOT…read moredrywall installation. The first was countertop installation. They did a good job on this came out and gave me a price at no charge. My only issue with the job was a decent size chip in the countertop after installation. I can't say whether this was from my family or the contractors, or the slab itself so no big deal, I can live with it. Overall I would say they're ok for installing stone countertops. The second job was some demo/prepping and hanging drywall for a small bathroom remodel. The owner "John"/Jiang was quick to come out and walkthrough. He showed me where some other areas of my homes drywall work had flaws and said "you won't see that with us" he made a lot of comments about our other contractors, etc but we agreed eventually on a GREAT price so I went with him. The work was sloppy, the cuts on the drywall were horrible they took my personal tools at times to use without asking as I had other people I was doing myself going on in the house. One of the things I didn't appreciate was that the owner kept telling me how he's not making money on the job. Although unfortunate, he was the one who agreed to the price which is what I wanted to spend. So I'm not sure if he did poor work as "retaliation" for that but it wasn't good. I ended up fixing some of the the drywall work and shower prep work that they did and the tile installer had to do quite a bit of additional prep to the shower to the framing plumb that they installed. Overall I would NOT recommend for drywall or carpentry jobs.

Jiang was very kind, professional, and easy to talk to from the beginning. They offered a free consultation and made us feel comfortable right away. Their team did an amazing job. They were organized, reliable, and easy to communicate with throughout the entire project. The quality of their work exceeded our expectations, and their pricing was very reasonable compared to others. We are very happy we chose them and highly recommend Husband and Wife Construction to anyone looking for honest, skilled, and affordable contractors. Thank you again for the excellent work!

Unfortunately Carlson Homes will not be building my dream home…read more  I had been working with Carlson Homes for over a year. They bid my project and I signed their proposal with enthusiasm 11/19. A couple of months later I got a call. They forgot two major details in my design. As a result, the cost went up nearly $62k... I understood and accepted the new proposal.  Then COVID hit and everything in my life got put on hold... Nine months or so later I re-engaged with Carlson Homes and gave them the opportunity to re-bid. Of course everything went up in price. I accepted their proposal again.  Very recently I made the 3000 mile move to the island with everything in tow. Then, as we were finalizing the contract documents with Carlson Homes and the Material House, Carlson Homes backed out sighting ..."multiple delays"... As I've read these glowing reviews, the most current of which was Aug 2016, I can't help but think something has suffered over the years since 2016 at Carlson Homes. It's not for me to speculate here.  I will say that I very much looked forward to Carlson Homes building my dream home. I have been seriously inconvenienced by them backing out leaving me high & dry, and starting from scratch. Mahalo for that...
