BMF is a family-run independent business specialising in bathrooms and heating. They have two shops…read morea door away from each other on Stainburn Parade. One is their bathroom showroom, and the other their showroom for stoves, fires and boilers. On display in the bathroom showroom are bathroom suites from a range of different brands, radiators, plumbing options, and under floor heating options. The stoves, fires and boilers showroom includes wood burning stoves and stoves that use several different types of fuel. For switched on customers concerned about their environmental impact and hoping to reduce their carbon emissions by using renewable technology, BMF provides solar hot water installation and ground source and air source heat pump installation. The style of the products at BMF is generally very modern and quite minimalist, with a look of high quality. BMF have an experienced team of installers so you can go through the whole process from ideas, advice, design, purchase and installation with the same company which makes life easier and shows the BMF staff's in-depth product knowledge and experience. The staff here seem passionate about their job and very happy to help and give advice on the best product to suit a customer. A great place to go for your bathroom and heating needs.

Chapel Town

I may sound like a massive loser but I genuinely look forward to the day when I have a bathroom I…read morecan decorate and make my own. No all-male housemates to make a mess or landlords to disapprove....but at the moment, all I can do is dream. How apt! At dream bathrooms they have loads of different designs of baths, sinks, showers, heating appliances, taps, towel rails and toilets. Contemporary or traditional, all very shiney and posh (I think I would go for a sparkly white oval bath and some little silver soap dishes...sigh). The price is actually ridiculously high in my opinion though, with a simple circular towel rail bringing you back over £65 and some of the baths over £2000. The quality is pretty dam good though so it's dependent on your budget and how much you are willing to shell out. If you are doing up your current house or looking for bathroom bits to accommodate your new abode then give them a shout, they'd be happy to help. Just don't get carried away or you wont have any money left for food and heating!

Dream Bathrooms is a large bathroom show room on Roundhay Road. It reminds me of childhood trips to…read moreB&Q when my sister and I would play hide and seek in the display kitchens and get excited by the shiny gold taps and large corner baths in the bathroom show room. So my recent perusal of the show room at Dream Baths was a tad nostalgic. Similar to Alexandra I have yet to own my own house and indeed long for the day when I can paint the walls any damn colour I choose and, erm...screw monkey bars into the ceiling and make one room into a ball pond! Again...I can Dream! So the notion of getting a new bathroom fitted doesn't feel particularly relevant to my current life and to be honest I'm a bit of a make do and mend type and can't imagine stripping out an entire bathroom only to buy a brand new one for thousands of pounds, but at the same time I fully understand the urge to match your home to your personal taste. The bathrooms here are top quality with many different styles from reasonably standard designs to quite unusual and stylish. The more interesting designs appear to have an 'interesting' price tag to match so are maybe best avoided if you're on a tight budget. If you're looking for a new bathroom though, you could certainly do worse than popping down to Dream Bathrooms!

Hyde Park

It's a bit of a cliché to say it, but this place really is an Aladdin's Cave of useful knickknacks…read more Well, it would be if Aladdin was a fan of doorknobs, staple guns and tins of paint, anyway. The owner here is one of the nicest men ever, and will always help you find what you need even if you're being a bit thick and not entirely sure yourself... I speak from experience! Prices are really competitive, much cheaper than the DIY stores in town and on a par with chain store prices, and I've never known anyone to need anything they didn't have somewhere on their shelves. Be prepared to ask though - the layout of the shop is chaotic to say the least.

I needed hardware supplies, badly. I wanted to put up pictures, paint my walls, put up some shelves - generally overhaul my room to make it mine. So my Mum and I trotted five minutes down the road to this place and had a browse. Initially we were B&Q bound but I wanted to get on with things immediately so persuaded her to pop here instead. It was totally the right choice! The staff were excellent and friendly and helped us find exactly what we needed, without any of the usual patronising back chat we've received from other places for being women doing DIY. Brilliant. Everything was cheaper than B&Q, which is pretty great too - closer, better service and cheaper prices! I managed to purchase everything I needed well under budget. Couldn't be happier with my shopping experience! Awesome.
