I understand after hours service I understand a weekend service but I do not understand being charged for gas mileage for someone to drive from an out of town service call back in to Evansville when you had to come this way anyway was your tech going to spend the night out of town until he got the next call if we would not have called I do not feel that I should be punished because the call before mine was an out of town person this is a problem that I feel needs to be addressed every single person that I told how much I was charged for a Friday evening call was shocked to say the least I am still dumbfounded at the price I had to pay needless to say I will not be calling you for any other service call needs read more

Tyler Conley did such a good job in diagnosing and fixing my mom's furnace problem. He was on time for the appointment, had the problem diagnosed quickly, and had the equipment with him to fix the problem. He was friendly and ensured the billing was correct with the office before we paid it. We have been using J. E. They replaced gas furnace and air conditioner yesterday. Two very competent men spent the day doing an excellent job. One day removed the old equipment and installed an tested the new installation. Shekell priced my unit 10,000 dollars less than one of their Evansville competitors. Very satisfied with the sales rep Jeff and both installers. An excellent company to deal with! we had a leak in a coil in our geo thermal unit. We had them out twice. they said they knew there was a leak, but didn't know where. But, "somehow " got it to work again. 1 week later- it goes out again-- same scenario- they got it back working- but couldn't figure out the spot. Two separate bills for $500 for literally NOTHING! We had to hire another company to come out to fix it. They fixed it the first try and we paid them $1500 for the fix. We were ok to pay some money towards their time, but we didn't think $1,000 was fair to us. I tried to call them multiple times to see if we could resolve it. They said they would have a manager call. Manager never called, but they kept calling to collect the money. I kept asking for the manager. Then they threatened collections on us- so, we paid it, with a letter that we didn't think it was fair and was willing to work with them. They didnt care one bit. They cashed the check without a phone call or anything. this is the first bad review I have ever left for anyone, but I was highly disappointed. We paid so much money for literally NOTHING. read more

Our air went out in the middle of the night. I called another company first and was told it would be 2 days before they could come out. Called Shekell and they we're friendly and had it done in 2 hours. Even did a follow up call the next day to make sure everything was okay. I will do business with no one else now. Great service. This company has taken care of our plumbing, air and heat since they have been in town. I would never call anyone else. Let's face it, plumbing and heating is expensive but Their prices are competitive and their response and service is better than any heat/plumb/ air company I have ever called. Made an appt on Monday (Aug 10th) to have "Tony" come to the house for an estimate- looking to replace 2 fuse boxes with breaker panels. They told me Friday, Aug 14th at 10am, and he would call when he was on his way. I took time off work to be there- only for NO ONE to show up. When I called, I was told "Tony isn't working today. Plus we have had some licensing issues and can't give you an estimate anyway." Seriously? They couldn't call to let me know this? Poor customer service, and a horrid first impression. I will steer clear of J. E. Shekell. read more

I had a bad experience dealing with one of their employees so I posted a bad review on their facebook page, soon I see they've rallied other employees to comment on the review I posted calling me expletives. I then get notified that they've contacted my previous employer demanding my phone number (and getting mad when not given that info, surprise), they found me on other social media platforms (twitter, linked in, probably more that I'm not aware of) and sent me messages on those telling me I needed to delete my review. Also sent me an email saying I was wrong and needed to delete the review. I don't know why and have no clue why this company will not stop bullying me, but I do not recommend their services at all. Unless you want to be bullied and don't expect to be treated with respect. This business is not a kind one. read more

They suck. I paid 900 last year for a drainout that was 3 times what i would have paid Hoffman. They did the job wrong and did not put in a needed T drain. Then 6 month later, i paid them $300 to clean out since its going to continually back up. Today i had a good plumber come out due to another back up- they are fixing Skekells mistake, I only wish I had my money back. Very arrogant and sadly, dont know what they are doing. Expensive lesson I had to learn. Please call Another if you think about using them. read more

A guy named Ron with the company came to my home just to say the same thing I said with my furnace and charged me $99. Nothing is fixed and they have no plans on giving me any quotes or having someone come out and fix it. I'm a single mom with NO heat and they took $99 from me without doing anything at all. What a waste and a joke of a business. They should actually do work instead of scamming single mothers!!!! read more

If there were 10 stars, I would have to give them that for their Good Samaritan deed today. My 96-year-old Mom's wIndow AC went out yesterday while I was out-of-town. It was 83 degrees in her apartment when I arrived last night. I confirmed it was dead and bought her a new one at Lowe's. The challenge was getting it installed this Friday before the temp heads back toward 90 for the weekend. I called Schneider as I spent $7k+ for a new system at my house and have it serviced by them. They were not interested in helping out but referred me to A1....which is no longer in business. I called Sheckell next. Jim (manager) explained that they really don't install window units (same as Schneider) but he'd come out and "take a look at it". I have to tell you that just when you think the world is all about evil and greed, Jim and another manager installed her window unit....FOR FREE! Thank you guys and God bless! I was told the cost of a plumbing visit would be $135 for the first hour and $90 per hour after that. I agreed. The plumber completed my projects in less than an hour but I was charged for an hour and a half of work. He said I had to pay for his travel time from the J.E. Shekell office to my home. Per Google that was 9 minutes. I called the J.E. Shekell office. The billing person confirmed I had to pay the additional cost. I feel the quote was deceptive. I will not use J.E. Shekell again. read more

Hired them to do an electrical inspection 30 days ago. Despite several calls, they still haven't provided a report or estimates. They were, however, very prompt about charging $750 to my credit card, which they have refused to refund. Shady. read more

95 degrees out, Hot and muggy, a/c suddenly failed. Called them after hours, came right out within about 1 hour as was on another call. Evan(repairman) was pleasant, prompt and had us up and running in hour or less. Had been working for 12 hours but was still polite and helpful. After hours was only $30 extra. Charged diagnostic fee and service call and first hour labor all in one. Charged flat fee for part installed and had on truck. Reasonably priced even after hours. I have used them at our business for electric, plumbing and HVAC and never had a problem. They send same guy out each year to do routine maintenance as he knows our 5 systems. Very, very disappointed. Had an appointment for today that I made a few weeks ago for an electrician to come to my residence to disconnect the power to my old she'd because I am having it torn down and a new one out up. Called their office this morning to confirm my appointment time. Was told my appointment was still good and they would be there at 3 pm as planned. Took off work early. Waited til nearly 5pm. No show. So I called the office back and this time the lady on the phone said the supervisor tried to reach me the day before to reschedule my appointment and even had come by my house to try to reach me to reschedule. No way. No one called me. And if anyone came to my home, they did not leave a note of door knocker. And if they did try to reach me to reschedule, why did the lady confirm my appointment when I called this morning? She told me the supervisor would call me right back. I told her they owe me an after hours service or Saturday service at regular price since they made me take off from work for no reason. But the supervisor has yet to call me back. I highly recommend you go somewhere else for your electrical needs. Customer service at this company is terrible. read more

I have no complaints about the work or reliability of this company. They are however very expensive. Not only do they charge you for the repair, they charge an extra $99.00 on top of the cost of the repair for a "diagnostic fee" which took them all of 2 minutes to determine. So, in spite of not having any complaints about the work itself, I will be seeking an alternative repair service for all future repairs. read more
