Every week, we had a box full of amazing fruits and veggies, along with a newsletter that had news, events, and recipes. I wish we would have had the time to participate in a worker's share, but the money we paid for the regular share was well worth it.

There really isn't a lot of competition because Country Fresh Meats provides a superior product…read morethat my friends and neighbors may not want to pay for but do notice the exceptional quality of the meat. Country Fresh Meats can tell you exactly where their beef, pork and chicken products come from. And by that, I mean where the cows, pigs and chickens come from. There really is not a comparison to a regular grocery store. My wife and I went in today and bought two value boxes of meat. The first was a variety pack and for $140 we got 12 pounds of ground chuck, four thick-cut pork chops, two T-bone steaks a sirloin steak a pork butt roast country spareribs, two cut up chicken fryers one whole roasting chicken and two packages of drumettes. In addition, we got the two porterhouse two T-bone meat box for $65.99. I know that may seem like a lot of money, but meat overall is expensive and we have enough steak now, probably, leading into the winter. My favorite part about Country Fresh Meats is that we noticed the difference in the quality of the meat. Sometimes my wife in a moment of weakness will buy a couple of steaks from the local grocery store and she is always disappointed. Occasionally, she will buy some Bubba Burgers instead of the ground chuck burgers from Country Fresh Meats, and she is always disappointed. The only time we notice any amount of difference is when we buy meat boxes that come with frozen meat. They are still far superior to anything sold in the local grocery store, but it doesn't taste as good as when we grab a fresh steak out of the meat case I'll take that any day of the week. If you want quality and value, Country Fresh Meats should be your butcher of choice.

When the weather turns crisp for fall, the mister and I start to think about caramel apples. Well,…read moreand he starts to think about apple cider donuts. Don't get me wrong, I like apple cider donuts just fine, but let me level with you...I would pick a caramel apple over a donut any day. We were in Stevens Point for other reasons and decided to stop by Casey's Orchard to see if they had any caramel apples. There were signs directing us to the little store they have on their property. We went inside and found a friendly older couple in there, and the air was perfumed with the aroma of fresh apples. We were offered a sample of any of the apples, and the only one we decided to try was winesap. We bought a handful of the winesap apples and lo and behold, they did have a case with some petite caramel apples in it, so we bought two of those as well. The caramel had formed a crispy shell around the apple, and it made for a nice treat. The whole purchase set us back about $5. The cash only shop carries apples, apple cider (but they were out when we visited), honey, jams and jellies, maple syrup and pumpkins.

Upon panicking that I wouldn't have a cake for my mother-in-law's birthday, Caked It LLC in Wausau…read morereassured me everything would be peachy! I ordered a 6 inch 2 layer cake, fully customized outside and inside with a blueberry lemon poppyseed mascarpone filling. (best tasting cake I have ever had) My conversation with the business over Facebook Messenger was prompt and friendly! But unfortunately after seeing the reviews of other's experiences, this is not a good business to support. Not to mention, my message disincludes an exclamation mark I asked for-- and they insisted the blueberry lemon mascarpone I originally asked for should include the poppyseed, almost as if it was a premade mix that had poppyseeds. Avoid this place at all costs and support another small business! 2 stars because the cake was good and fast!

It was super busy when I went and the girls were nice. The only thing that was confusing was that there wasn't a line to order, people were scattered and the employees asked who was next and it was kind of like first come first serve. But I will be back to try the other flavors.

Regardless the food and service have always been excellent. My favorite is the deluxe bacon cheeseburger and fries, and they are among my favorites-- better than I get in larger or chain restaurants. My aunt gets a more traditional meal like chicken or meatloaf and often finds an old classmate or family friend to visit with. The prices are very reasonable, $15-19 for two adults depending on sides and drinks. Usually we have our food within 20 minutes of arriving and out the door in 40. I highly recommend it!
