If you are reading this and considering booking Annika, stop reading and make sure you get to work with her!! I truly can't say enough good things about her service, trustworthiness, knowledge, support, and professionalism. This is going to be a long one but I know expecting moms out there will do all the research to make sure their baby will be well cared for. She joined our family for 2 months with our second baby and her help was such a relief for us through the sleepless nights. We had the first 6 weeks covered through our insurance and ended up extending her 2 more weeks out of pocket. Annika was easy to work with in terms of extending the contract -- and luckily she had another client after us otherwise we may have continued booking for another 3 months! During those months she actually helped us identify that our daughter was having silent reflux. Long story short, our baby ended up having multiple tongue ties that we got revised and wouldn't have figured out so quickly without Annika's recommendation to get her looked at! She never claimed to have expertise in areas she didn't know about and always guided us towards someone who did. Since the tongue ties were revised I was able to continue my breastfeeding journey. Annika was always on time, eager to help, wore a mask around our baby (I didn't know what she looked like without one until one of our last nights!) and sent detailed notes at the end of each night. I loved being able to know what happened throughout the night between feeding sessions even when someone else was holding my baby. I had never had a doula before but if I ever have a third child I will make sure that Annika is available. Not only are her services top notch, she is a lovely person to be around and so sweet. Annika is incredible at her job and a wonderful person. I don't know how we'd get through those first few weeks of parenthood time without her. She's been instrumental in getting all of us to be calmer, more confident, and sleep better. Here are some of my favorite points: - She has excellent communication: she sends us an email every night after her shift telling us how our son did and how many diapers he had so we can better track this info. If we bring up questions when she's here, she'll provide info to answer them. - She does much more than care for our son: she's trained to support lactation and she's familiar with postpartum anxiety and depression. When we came back from the hospital with our newborn, we were nervous, tired, and overwhelmed. When Annika came to support us on our first night home, we instantly felt at ease! She is always on time, if not a couple minutes early, always cleans bottle and pump parts, does baby laundry, and does other chores as needed. She stays awake all night (rare to find a doula who will do this) to make sure baby is all good. Annika was recommended to us by close friends, who described her as a "night angel" -- she truly was our savior for the first three months. Since this was our first baby, I had no idea what it would be like to work with a night doula, but she really exceeded my expectations both in terms of how she cared for our baby girl, and also what it was like having a "stranger" in our home at night. She is such a lovely, kind, respectful person -- as well as highly skilled practitioner. What I like most about Annika is her philosophy. She was extremely emotionally connected to our baby, and really believes in meeting babies where they are, never pushing them. She is quite gentle and loving, yet also created a great routine that optimized our baby's ability to thrive with healthy feedings and good sleep. She is also so organized, and emailed a summary of each night so that we could track feedings, diapers, sleep and know how everything went. One other unique thing about Annika's practice is that she stays awake with the baby 100% of the night, which many other doulas do not do. She is so disciplined and committed, and I loved knowing that my baby was in safe, vigilant hands with her. Anytime she needs to step out of the room, even for a moment (to wash bottles, etc) she always takes the monitor, so is keeping a constant watch over her. As an extra bonus to washing bottles, Annika washed/sterilized my pump parts at night, which felt like a total luxury that I didn't have to worry about that. And she even folds laundry in the wee hours :) I really loved learning from Annika as well. I constantly asked her questions and learned so much from watching how she does things. She also was incredible about observing new things with our baby, making suggestions, and doing research on new solutions to help us problem solve (e.g. probiotics, motion glider, bottle systems). I made it through the first 6 weeks of being a new mama before admitting that I needed an expert's help with my son's sleeping - not to mention a much needed break! When I called Annika, I hadn't slept in a bed for several weeks, as my son would only sleep being held against me on the couch. Annika is just the best--my husband and I can't fully express how wonderful she is and how much better she made our fist month and a half of parenthood. She was our postpartum doula (nights) for the first several weeks with our first child. As new parents, we certainly worried our fair share, but Annika allowed us to rest easy and sleep soundly, as she took care of our son through the night and gave us advice about care during the day. She would come at 10pm and leave at 6am, and do whatever needed to be done to keep our little one happy while we slept - bringing him into our room for the night feedings of course! We just finished 3 months with Annika working as our night doula for our second child. We didn't know about night doulas when our first child was born (wish we had!) and have learned it is a total game changer! Having Annika overnight allowed us to get more rest so we could better care for our energetic 4 year old during the day. The nights she worked my husband would get a full nights sleep and I would wake up to breastfeed or pump but otherwise got longer stretches of sleep. We had some postpartum challenges this time around (tongue tie leading to breastfeeding difficulty and then thrush) and Annika was very versed and skilled in helping us surmount those challenges. It can be a little nerve wracking inviting a stranger into your home (in our case, especially in COVID times), and particularly to care for your newborn child. She is extremely experienced and well worth the investment. She's confident and compassionate with babies, and our daughter just adores her! Annika is very professional. She possessed numerous certifications and her training clearly informs her expert baby advice. She is very reliable. She has never once been late--indeed she's always several minutes early! She keeps track of how the baby did over the night so you can pick back up in the morning with ease. Leaving your newborn with a new person overnight is extremely hard! When our daughter unexpectedly went to the hospital Annika offered to and did go to our house, pack our bags, feed our dog, and deliver all our necessities to us at the hospital. We found Annika when looking for some help with our first child when he was 2 weeks old. We read plenty of books and took some classes but nothing prepares you for the days bringing your baby home for the first time. She was so warm and helped in so many different ways. We set up our visit as a one time consultation for 4 hours and used every minute of it learning from her about pretty much anything we could think of to ask and plenty we didn't. After our visit with her, we had a new level of confidence in being able to take care of our newborn. In addition to the education and moral support, she did not hesitate to offer referrals for other consultants of different types, to email us links to products she loved, and weeks later even to post an ad for us in her doula group for a short term night doula since she was going to be booked during the time we needed.
