A short walk from the Trinity College Campus sits a triangular, brick and mortar (literally)…read moretriangular "NY Style (sandwich) Deli". With just a few small tables and chairs outside, the standing room only interior is a picture of economy. These were my first impressions as customers steadily streamed inside to place orders and then leave to wait for their sandwich or sit a bit.
My eyes locked into the pastrami melt sandwich on the menu and I waited my turn, albeit a bit nervously, to place my order with one of the three gents who were slinging the sandwiches. All the ingredients in the deli case looked fresh, from the lettuce, meats, cheese, etc, to the types of bead on top of the case, like the focaccia.
Each sandwich is made fresh, and once assembled, is pressed to warm the roll and melt the cheese. My pastrami melt arrived loaded with the meat, and all the ingredients enhanced by the deli mustard made for a great tasting sandwich. It's probably the best pastrami sandwich I've tasted in a long while.
Every employee was patient and helpful, and I found this to be quite an effort since customers kept placing orders without much of a break.
The Pig & Heifer is definitely worth a repeat visit.
