A bit overcast today so not many people around. This is our to go beach at Santa Cruz and we love it cause always lots of friendly dogs playing here....

    So gorgeous

We had originally tried to go toward the Lighthouse Beach, but some friendly locals saw us with our dog and directed us toward Its Beach. Steps down the beach were pretty easy to use (we can't do trecherous inclines with all our gear and small kiddos!) I loved how happy all the dogs seemed running around. It's a great place for the dogs to play and meet other doggies. All the dog owners we ran into were quite friendly. I was so taken aback by how gorgeous the natural bridge arch and surrounding rocks were. They made for some really lovely photos. Parking can be crowded- the lots are off of Cliff Drive but fill up. I recommend parking on Pelton instead, where there is tons of parking. You can easily walk through the grassy shaded field to Cliff Drive. Tons of paved roads through the field and it was actually quite scenic as well. We had parked at Pelton and Laguna. The path across takes you directly towards It's Beach.

I have visited this beach twice while being in Santa Cruz and I will be waiting for the next time I can visit it. It is a middle-size beach: it is quite clean, there is a pretty light house you could walk up to, and the best part is that this is an off-leash dog beach.

We'd never been to this dog beach before, but I does a few we've been to this has to be the best location!! My boyfriend and I have gone walking around the pier and to the Surfer's Lighthouse museum and never knew this part of the beach was below! Lol and to think we only walked the perimeter of this beautiful beach it's just funny! All the people were very polite and understanding of everyone's dogs running up/across peoples blankets. Lol one of my puppies was very interested in a family's lunch since they were sitting on their beach blanket but I was able to Hokes my puppy away with a treat. I did notice a number of the humans that sat in their own beach chairs propped up higher so their dogs couldn't sniff or get a whiff of their food as they eat their lunches. Lol we definitely would bring chairs the next time we come to this beach. Our dogs know not to ask for food, but they were reluctant to play until we were done eating in case we dropped anything on the blanket. Lol there's a little cove off to the far right of the beach and as the high tide comes in that area separate from the rest of the main beach. My dogs were very interested in jumping on that area and the rocks but we didn't want the waves to get them separated from us so we kept them on the other side/The main area of the dog beach. Since we have curious Huskies, we were also worried that they would try to escape and run up the stairs. But luckily they didn't. There were also six other huskies on this beach and the owners were able to keep their huskies from running up the stairs as well. Lol We will definitely be back to this beach!!!

Great dog beach to just let your dogs off leash at. The waves are pretty calm and it's pretty easy to get in and out of. Sometimes you have to park a little far away but it's not too bad of a walk

Its Beach is a very dog-friendly beach. in fact, the dogs might have outnumbered the people-not counting the many people surfing in the ocean. Dogs run about unleashed, so it would be a terrible place to go if you did not like dogs! The one drawback to the place is that is so small. If you want to walk along the beach, you cannot go far and will have to go back and forth. However, it is an advantage of sorts to dog-owners in that your dog cannot run too far away from you! I did not let my Zoey off-leash because since the lock-downs, she has reverted to a somewhat anti-social state and I never know how she will react to other dogs. Nevertheless, she had a wonderful time here!

We asked someone for a dog friendly beach and this beach was highly recommended. Almost everyone had a dog here, it's a lovely beach for bringing your dog. It's clean, pretty and easy enough to find a quiet spot to chill with your dog.

Very dog friendly!! Always tons of really sweet dogs, and chill people. The beach has one entrance so it's safe and contained.

Cute tent setup on the beach during a rainy afternoon day. Tent equipped with tabled, flowers, food & champagne. :)

Cool beach, local hang, nice place to bring your pup and let them go for a run. Heed warning, there are some larger aggressive dogs that are let off leash from time to time, by people who are likely not locals... so be wary of that and keep an eye on your dog.

Amazing place to bring your fur babies! Always tons of dogs and the owners are pretty respectful and nice. We went there for the first time and my doggos had a blast :) there's plenty of room for them to be off leash and big rocks in the side so there's no way for them to run off the beach. 10/10 recommend and eminently our new fav spot

OMFG...I finally made it to the swing at the Davenport Beach?! :D…read more I did not read any reviews about this spot before coming here. I just bookmarked for a couple of years, and I finally visited it. My boyfriend and I along with his doggie were having a day out in Santa Cruz. I told him that we should visit this place so that we can swing on the beach. He was down for it, but once we found the way to get down to it--he said, "No way, I'm doing that." I *did* not let that stop me from going down there to experience the swing though. My boyfriend and his doggie stayed at the top of the cliff and watched me climbed down to the beach. Yes, it was pretty treacherous. Thank goodness there was a rope with knots to hold onto. Otherwise, I don't think I would be able to do it successfully without that lifesaver rope. Thank you so much to whoever secured that rope there! Also, I do want to point out I did this in a dress and flipflops?! Crazy right.. Then again.. I'm crazy, I do admit it. ;) There were a four gals and guys down there chilling. I asked them if there was another way to get in and out of here, but they confirm that that was the only way in and out. I got to swing on the swing and took some videos. The swing looked cool from the photos that I seen, but it doesn't swing well straight. It does swing sideways. Lol... It took me about 7 minutes to go down and about 4 minutes to climb back up. I know this because my boyfriend recorded me. Lol... I'm very grateful that I was determined to do this despite the company that I had didn't want to do it. Years ago I let someone that I was with who didn't want to do it influence me to also not do it when we visitied Alamere Falls so I won't let that happen anymore. If there is something I want to do, it's okay to do it alone when other people don't want to do it. That's on self-love, baby! There is two parking areas. We initially parked in the one right across the post office, but then we follow this group to the other one right next to it because it was closer. We walked across the railroad tracks and found the opening to the climb to the beach. I was sore for a few days afterwards in my legs from climbing the side of the cliff, but oh gosh... It was so worth it!

We saw a few groups of casual hikers and a few joggers. There was some construction in areas close to the parking lot that was unsightly and a parking fee, but other than that, everything was just lovely. I can't wait to return to Wilder Ranch for a deeper exploration! [TIP: If you're a serious hiker who's looking for an all day trip, this isn't the location for you. Wilder Ranch is on the easy to medium hike level with trails that are fairly short, like 2.5 miles for one of the popular beach loops.
