I always am concerned about health and safety of the dogs when they're away but they came home just as happy and well balanced as when I drop them off. They use Facebook quite a bit which I'm not a Facebook person but they posted regular pictures so we could see what they were doing at any time of day. Their business is monitored by security cameras so I felt pretty safe that they could see what was going on in and around the property. If I can describe it in one word it's kind of like a home away from home. I would recommend.

He also has a hard time with strangers, so we were resigned to think we would never get away from the house due to his issues. Once we were forced to look into dog-sitting for an event we were required to attend, we realized finding someone to look after him was imperative. After emailing back and forth with Crissy, we set up a time for them to meet at our house, to see how they got along. Carson was his typical shakey, barking self, but Crissy's easygoing nature made his nerves settle down and he eventually took to her quite enthusiastically. Crissy has dog-sat for us on multiple occasions, on day trips and weekend overnights, and every time we returned, we came back to a happy dog, and a safe house. I feel confident leaving our lil guy in her capable hands, and will continue to do so. I highly recommend her to anyone with pets, and especially people with pets who have special needs, are old or injured, or have issues that put them out of the possibility of putting their lil friend in a kennel. Prices are reasonable, with prices by the hour, or by event, such as a one hour visit being $28, or an overnight with a mid day walk being $68. Absolutely worth it, Crissy is talented and wonderful, and will remain with our family for as long as possible.

I was looking to get away for a long weekend without burdening a friend and asking someone to stop…read moreby and feed and walk my dog (Bailey) 3 times a day when my mom had an idea. My mother has had Linda take care of her cat at home for over eight years, whenever my mother is out of town for more than a day. Linda was recommended by a Glastonbury veterinarian and has had a key to mom's house, watered plants, taken in mail and newspapers, lets the cat in and out, and of course feeds him and checks the litter box for a per visit fee. My mom noticed that Linda's website said she now boards some dogs in her home for a daily (or half-day, if that's all you need) rate. My mom got me in touch with Linda who requested I bring my little chihuahua over several days before my trip so that they could meet and I could see the arrangements and make sure I didn't have any concerns or questions left unanswered. Linda has a great big fenced in yard for the dogs to play and exercise in, and lots of crates, gates and blankets so that all you need to provide is food (and treats if you'd like). Everything went well, the three other dogs that were at the house when I arrived (only one lives there) were all let outside so that Bailey could walk in and get comfortable without the distraction of the other dogs wanting to play. I also completed a form while visiting about things such as what kind of food I use, how much food and exercise Bailey gets daily, and who the vet is and if certain vaccines were up to date. I warned that Bailey has refused to eat once or twice when I was gone and Linda said she's dealt with similar situations before and has always found a way to get them to eat, even if it means cooking them eggs (right, she also asked about any food allergies in case it came to that)! Well I went on my trip and got a picture of Bailey texted to me the next day, then another picture her second day there of Bailey stretched out on Linda's lap outside enjoying the fire pit (the same way Bailey lays on my lap nightly on the couch). I texted at one point to make sure Bailey was eating and Linda said she did have to hand-feed her sometimes but she did get her to eat (and she was fed away from the other dogs, in her own space). It was a great experience and I will definitely be using this service again and recommend it for anyone that needs their dog boarded. Also, keep in mind that other places that board dogs (in kennels) are businesses with employees that leave early in the evening and don't return until morning, so there could be 12 (YES TWELVE) consecutive hours that no one is there to let the animals out to relieve themselves, that is not the kind of attention, or lack thereof, the animals receive in Linda's home where people are there throughout the night. Linda and Jack were great and you can tell they truly are animal lovers.

My pups and I had the great fortune of meeting Debbie, of Debbie's4dogs yesterday. She came out to…read morethe house to give us some pointers on working with my little pack. We have 6 pups ranging in age from 1 1/2 to 18. One of my younger pups has been having problems with resource guarding so I researched dog behaviorists in my area. Debbie was an obvious choice. I would never consider working with a trainer that used any type of negative methods and I felt confident that she would treat my pups with respect and kindness. Debbie stepped into my yard and immediately the pups took to her. She had a calming presence and used body language that had my painfully shy chihuahua mix walking right up to her. Ricky has NEVER approached a stranger before! Debbie taught us easy and effective ways to work with our babies to make them feel relaxed. My pups loved her and she very quickly inspired confidence both in us as well as the dogs. Debbie took the time to explain her process and the science behind it. She was so patient with us and the pups and I felt comfortable asking questions. She passed along so much excellent info and helpful tips. Debbie left us with a personalized packet of great information that helped reinforce what we learned. Working with her was so different from working with a standard trainer. Debbie has studied dog behavior in depth with a focus on reactive pups. Her methods are based on the most current science related to dog behavior. She has such a calming presence and I could actually feel the pups relax around her. Debbie left us with a packet of great info. This wasn't a standard print out, but instead she took the time to personalize the info and tailor it to our individual dogs and our specific needs. After some fun foraging for treats in the yard all the babies were worn out for the rest of the day. Anyone who has raised puppies knows that is a wonderful thing! After our session, Debbie encouraged us to check in with a text. We really noticed a change in our pack's demeanor that extended into the following day. We will most definitely keep in touch with Debbie. I know she will be a wonderful resource going forward and I can recommend her without reservation to anyone who cares about their pups happiness and wellbeing.

I cannot say enough good things about Gleanna and the team at Rhodes Collar. The first time I…read moretalked to them, they were returning my call. We had made the mistake of adopting two male puppies at the same time. One of them was a few months older and, our vet discovered, severely abused, and even though the rescue said he was good with kids and other dogs, he was making the younger dog so frightened because of his aggression and growled and lunged at my 12 yo son, his tooth coming right next to his eye. The latter incident happened seconds before Rhodes Collar called me back. I was crying and hysterical. Out of the kindness of her heart, the trainer Claire came out with her own dog and evaluated our poor aggressive fellow. She also invited us, again free of charge, to walk with our dog, hers and a friend and the friend's dog in a public place. Although it was an extremely difficult decision, and our son saying basically that he didn't care about his own safety, Claire helped us find a new and wonderful home for this pup. All of this was done on her own time and with the greatest kindness by Claire. She especially helped ease the guilt we felt about rehoming our dog, and expressed a lot of surprise that the rescue organization would let us adopt two puppies at the same time. It is doable, but EXTREMELY difficult. Definitely beyond our skill set. Claire never made us feel bad about that. She definitely let us make our own decision, but was there to help us either way. We did a set of Sunday morning obedience classes with Claire and our remaining pup, Waldorf. It was a lot of fun. Unfortunately neither obedience class time really works for our schedule. However, we have been sending Waldorf, as often as possible, to Rhodes Collar's wonderful Doggie Day School!! It's very full, so he only gets to go when someone else cancels, about once a week. The School is from 8am until 1pm. You can drop your dog off or pay a small fee to have them pick up and/or drop off your dog, which is a real help if you, for example, have workmen in your home all day and can't leave, as happened to me this week. Rhodes Collar brought him right to the door! We honestly don't work with Waldorf as much as we should. He gets lots of walks, play time and loving, but we could train him more. However, I know he is learning at Doggie Day School. He is the first dog we've had that walks on the right side of a pole when walking down the street so the leash does not get wrapped around the wrong side. I have never been able to train a dog to do that, and Waldorf does it as a matter of course. We definitely did not train him to do that. Rhodes Collar did. Recently, I told him to "stay," left the room for a bit, and he was right where I left him when I returned. I put him in "stay" another time recently, and he held there while I walked away, again until I released him. We worked with him some on "stay", but I know most of that is attributable to Rhodes Collar. They train the dogs not to be distracted or, shall we say, egged on by other dogs. Today I took him to Home Depot. It was a typical busy Saturday. I was pushing a cart which he was not accustomed to, but he adapted quickly. A large boxer (Waldorf is a small, supposedly lab mix) was pulling at the owner's leash and barking aggressively. Waldorf did not react. Then at the checkout, this smaller dog, maybe Jack Russell, jumped out from the top part of his owner's buggy and was barking, again, aggressively. Waldorf of course looked at him, but did not bark. A lady behind me loudly said "That's why we don't bring dogs to public places." The small dog owner put his dog back in the cart and rolled past us. I was scanning my items and noticed Waldorf, still not barking, but trying to follow after the dog in the cart. I pulled him back in front of me. He wasn't looking at me, so I said "eyes." Rhodes Collar taught him that command, and we've practiced it a bit. He made eye contact, and I put him in a "down stay" to restore his calm. I released him quickly bc it was difficult for him to maintain that given the circumstances, and I needed to focus on checking out, not keeping him in down stay. However, he was back to his calm self. Ant older lady at the checkout in front of me looked straight at me and said "That's a well trained dog." I wish I had the presence of mind to say, "Rhodes Collar in Mystic," instead of just "thank you." I even heard the lady who said not to bring dogs in public places say to the person she was with how well trained he was. I can't wait to take him out again!!! Here are some pics.

Immediately my cousin told me that this was the best school for dogs in the area. She was right that is for sure! My husband and I started taking our puppy to Rhodes Collar immediately and worked with Michelle on dog obedience skills in both private lessons and group classes. Curtis was able to get involved in a group class entitled Good Citizen Skills. He passed the class thanks to the excellent training from Michelle and owner Glenna and there continued patience with us as new owners of Curtis. We are still taking classes with Michelle and working on more advanced skills now, we really enjoy the classes. The staff are all amazing, Linda helps Curtis with the after school program, she is incredible, Maureen is amazing and helps with so many areas of running the school, Rileigh is also amazing and helps us when we need to board Curtis though Custom Care. We feel 100% confident that our puppy is safe and treated well when we go away, we get pictures and videos of everything he does at school like report cards or when boarding at a staff's home. Staff are always available in a on text and honestly this school is so amazing that my husband and I agree we are better dog owners since going to Rhodes Collar, we plan to be long time customers and are forever grateful to them.
