What a beautiful park…read more I went for the enchanted woodland walk, and it was just lovely. The 2 mile walk takes in some of the highlights of the ground, all decorated with beautiful lights. It was just gorgeous. I did think they should have limited the number of people walking around, perhaps to hourly slots, as it was so busy it kind of changed the atmosphere a little bit. All of the lights and scenes created were so creative and well thought out. Magical for both adults and children. The cutest things were seeing little fairies and pixies dotted around, and little doors at the bottom of trees where little elves must live. I loved it and would highly recommend you visit next winter. I'd really like to go back to the park in the day time for a nice sunny walk!

Facilities: Gillespie Park isn't necessarily well equipped with much, if anything but the fascinating thing that they have dotted around the park are eccentricly metalic sculputes intertwined into 2 different styles and had around 3 if not 4 within sight. Unfortunately apart from that and an ecology centre located at the Arsenal side of the park, there isn't much else. Great For: Just because Gillespie Park doesn't have much to offer in regards to facilities, it does have some key elements that give it that much needed browny points which are: -The quickest route from Finsbury Park Station to Arsenal Station and when you have tried many routes, you know this to be true -A great place for anyone that wants to do some train spotting -A peaceful hidden away park (so it does tick the hidden oasis box) that in the summer I could forsee there being one or two sunbathers but nothing more -An ecology centre located near the Gillespie Road exit that I have seen some great reviews for **All in all this park although isn't packed with much, it still withstands some great features suited for the peaceful parker. I walk past an entrance to this park every day to get to Arsenal tube. Seeing as I've lived in this area now for over a year, a sunny Sunday walking back from Finsbury Park seemed the perfect opportunity to visit. We went via the Finsbury Park entrance, the northern tip of it. The first few minutes were... Underwhelming. Some graffiti, a bleak view of the train tracks and a few weeds were all I could see. Then, we came to a clearing and it started to become less 'abandoned alleyway' and more 'awesome green space'! Walking past the wind turbine, we were greeted with a blue ecology house with a cafe and two ponds nearby. The children in the park were having a delightful time spotting wildlife and running about through the small forest area. Other than about 20 people this oasis in the city is practically empty, so is well worth going if you want a few minutes of solitude amid London life.

Queen's Gardens is a very pleasant green oasis adjacent to the Town Hall in Croydon, and just a few…read moreminutes' walk from the busy shopping centre. It is popular with office workers, and for wedding photographs for those undertaking Civil Ceremonies in the Town Hall, but not that well known to many of the visiting shoppers, who never stray this far. It is a mix of lawns, formal borders and a more informal sunken garden, complete with palms. It has an interesting history: the 'sunken' gardens to the north of the site were formed from the railway cutting which led to the former Croydon Central railway station. During the early days of the railways, the two current stations, West Croydon and East Croydon were built by the London and Croydon Railway (1839) and the London and Brighton Railway (1841) respectively, but the townspeople felt neither station was conveniently sited for the town centre. This pressure led to the authorisation in 1864 of a short branch line from East Croydon station to a new station on the site of the present Town Hall, which duly opened as Croydon Central station in 1868. It was a spacious two-platform terminus, handsomely provided with an Italianate station building in brick. Alas, with a meagre service of just 12 trains a day, passengers found it easier to use the other two stations, and the service ceased in 1871. After pressure from the Council, a service was reinstated in 1886, (this time as 'Central Croydon') but this too lasted only until 1890, when the station closed for good. But one advantage of the legacy was that it provided a large, consolidated site for redevelopment. The Council used this opportunity to build the original Town Hall, Courts, a Police Station and Public Library. The sunken garden was constructed in the cutting and opened in 1896. In 1968, the lawns facing Taberner House were laid out, which at that time remained separated from the sunken gardens by Mint Walk and the Victorian Police Station. The Police Station was demolished in 1980, and the two sections of garden joined together as we see them now. They were opened by the Queen on 21st June 1983.

At one of the weddings I attended, we came down here for photo shoots. With the vast array of beautiful flowers amidst a beautiul fountain, this garden truly represents what tranquility and serenity one can find in the open. As I sat on the bench, I imagined myself coming down there again, to bask in the lovely sunshine and soak in the pleasant scents of the colourful flowers overlooking me. It even gets more attractive because there are a bit more private areas the next level below, like (its like a one storey plan) and you can enjoy a lovely novel in the more shaded areas or for those serenaders, its a nice place too. You cannot miss it. It's just right across the Registry.

Big headline act with support from local bands and musicians great art, craft, drink and food stalls, and a variety of activities for all ages. Very well organised and good security. I decided to be a kid again and go on a fair ride, Rotor to be exact how WRONG was I all I can remember was being stuck to the back walls of this ride and my head spinning and being sick never ever again!!!! As the warm summer days are rolling in I would definitely come back again but not go on any rides to old for that...LOL As the review below say running paths, beautiful rose garden, football area, lush green grass and children's play area.

I…read morefirst came here over a decade ago during my study abroad in London, and upon my recent re-visit I found that, unsurprisingly, not much has changed. The space is really quite beautiful. The cemetery isn't quite abandoned, but it is wild and overgrown, with meandering paths and labyrinths of headstones and tombs. Hosts of melancholy angels watch over the wanderers, and the chapel (actually abandoned) gazes out over the land with empty windows for eyes. It's lovely and very peaceful, and after a few steps away from the gates it doesn't even feel as though you're in London anymore, but some mysterious place out of time. If you need a reprieve from the bustle of the city, Abney Park is well worth a visit.

And the chapel in the middle has lots of things regularly going on. Like recently there was an art exhibit and soon a puppet opera show is going to take its place. How awesome is that. Everything is covered in green and slightly overcrowded. Love all the little pathways you can discover. Let's get lost shall we?

With it being perched so high you can see all of London. The North's version of Crystal Palace. It's a good walk around for a Sunday too. I really like going there to unwind and chill. Summer it is busier of course and that's when it comes into its own. Lovely. We are lucky in London to have such great green spaces.
