Since they've opened I've been promising myself I'd go. Today I finally did, for the Core & Stretch…read morenoon session. Absolutely the best! It had been awhile and the yogi Cecilia was super helpful to get my lizard and pigeon pose correct. Great atmosphere, very chill and Zen. I've gone to one freebie session at Galveston Island Brewery led by Melody several months ago and was impressed. I signed up for 30 consecutive days as a personal challenge. Going back tomorrow! Oh the cool lavender towels on the forehead were a pleasant and classy touch! 2nd day, went and Melody the owner was the yogi. I was so happy she did not focus on the same area! Obviously they coordinate-what a concept. Absolutely amazing atmosphere and experience.

Very warm and very beautiful studio!…read more COMMUNITY - my fav thing about a yoga studio, definitely involved here. The first day I came to class it was small, understandably due to COVID, everyone knew everyone. I was welcomed in with open arms (6ft away of course)! Theres a good amount of teachers that bring variety but the classes are quite structured. This is more strength focused studio, no zen or yin classes that I know of. Fun event style classes every once in a while, COVID permitting I'm sure. Woga (wine and yoga) class coming up that I am really looking forward to! Great location and small class size! Everyone is spaced 6ft apart with plenty of extra space and air flow.

Before I met Kathleen and her teachers at The Yoga Haven, I thought yoga was a) hot, and b) a lot…read moreof jumping up and down (I got that impression from yoga classes at my national 'big box' fitness center). That wasn't my thing after hip replacement surgery! I heard about 'Yin Yoga' and learned that it was taught--among other styles--here. So I gave it a try and was immediately hooked--by the skill of the teachers, by the restorative powers of Yin, by the ambiance of the charming studio. Over the last few years I've taken many classes at The Yoga Haven from several teachers, including Kathleen--as well as classes at various gyms during my travels. So I know how special it is to find experienced teachers who can accommodate the 'flexibility-challenged' like me, and how good it feels to take a room-temperature class and generate heat from within, and how much fun it is to have teachers who are themselves students and vary the classes as they learn new techniques. If you live in or visit Galveston and you want a studio where they'll work with you--whether beginner or expert, old or young, fit or like me (LOL)--give The Yoga Haven a try. Yin & Restorative (& SATYA) Yoga, as taught by Kathleen and her team, are so good for one's body that I only wish I'd found them years ago!

If you're a local or just on vacation, this is a wonderful studio…read more I traveled to Galveston solo recently, and keeping in my vacation theme (activities, entertainment, temporary sobriety, and relaxation), I stumbled upon Yoga Haven. It was actually a stroke of curiosity and wanderment, leading to the almost perfect overall vacation itinerary. Also, as the class was only $12, it made the $40 groupon massage coupon that I decided against buying at some other place in town, laughable. I took Svetlana's Thursday 6 PM Yoga Roots class. She doesn't rush you into any moves, and is right there with you correcting your posture. All of us got the fair amount of help and guidance that was appropriate to each of us. The poses and relaxation stretches seemed mild initially - almost too relaxing, but today my arms and back are sore in a good way. My weaker upper body definitely earned its keep. Also, I slept like a baby, which is another good thing. Especially when the whole point of vacation is to relax, relax, relax. The classes run 75 minutes. This class, a pretty basic one, helped me with form and toned my upper body and glutes. If you're new to yoga, definitely don't shy away from the studio. I get the feeling that they are used to all types. Locals, daytrippers, novices, and the super bendy people. Really, there was a great sense of community, and I really felt like part of their family while there. (How often can you go on vacation and feel totally embraced by the community so quickly?) If you forget your mat at home*, they'll provide you with one. In fact, we used bolsters, rugs, blocks, and the strappy things. I'm a hot yoga gal, so all of the props were new to me. Most of them are really so you don't strain yourself. So, if you're super bendy or don't feel like you're working some of your muscle groups as much as you should, you won't feel pressured to use everything. They just want to make certain that the ones who may not be as flexible don't pull anything. On the other side of that fence, if you have injuries or just aren't as flexible as your neighbor, don't be put off by the stereotype that all yogis are bendy. Props were created for a reason. *OR, if you bring your gym clothes, don't head to your hotel's workout room. Think outside the box and combine a little decompressing with your exercise.
