Ford's Cottages - View from the deck of our cottage

We're at the beginning of our second stay here and I can't say enough about how much my entire…read morefamily and I love this place. These little cottages are perfect for a family stay for a week or five (I wish). It's a beautiful spot right in the middle of the Les Cheneaux Islands and you have a beautiful view of the water from inside your cottage and on the deck. There' a boat dock where you are free to keep your boat if you bring one, or you can just fish off the end like some of the little kids have been doing this week. They have a makeshift little beach area with about six plastic Adirondack chairs and I'm telling you, these kids staying here can't get enough of that sand. Right next to that area they have five kayaks ready to go- my cousins and I take full advantage of these every time we stay. Every cottage's deck has some of their own Adirondack chairs which we take from one to the other since we stay in two cottages right next to each other for the week. There's also a charcoal grill at each one which, again, we take full advantage of throughout the week. There's a fire pit off to the side of the cottages which I a great way to spend the evenings. Inside the cottages- fully stocked with dishes, towels, blankets, etc. There's free wifi and cable in each one. Plenty of outlets if you're worried about charging electronics or if you (like my mom) will be working at any point during your stay. The kitchen has a fridge, freezer, stove, oven, and microwave- so everything you could need to make any meal you desire. The owners of this place are incredible. Kirstin an Jason are two of nicest people we've met and they really care about everyone here and making sure you enjoy your stay. They live in a house right on the same property so they're almost always around. Both of them drop in periodically to make sure you're enjoying your time and that there's nothing you need from them. They own the North Coast Company in Hessel now which is an ice cream, fudge, and coffee shop inside the showroom of E.J. Mertaugh Boat Works. This was the first Chris Craft dealership in America, for those of you who enjoy boats. This part of Michigan is simply incredible. It's beautiful and quiet with plenty of outdoor activity going on. You're only a little bit away from Mackinac Island, the Soo Locks in Sault Ste Marie, and Tahquamenon Fall- all excellent day trips during your stay. I would highly recommend staying at Ford's Cottages to anyone. You jut can't go wrong here!

They have some great water activities to rent. A fire pit for sitting by and having s'mores or just relaxing by. Not too far from the resort you can go see some deer. They love carrots.

Beware owner will not honor confirmed reservations that were made via phone with him. After making…read morethe reservation I had 2 confirmation emails, one five days before arrival. We arrived at the check in time listed on the email the owner tried to put us in a cabin that was actively under construction and had holes in walls, you could see outside, and was not the cabin we reserved (pic 1 is what we reserved and pic 2 is what we were offered) . The owner told us to come back in an hour and the cabin under construction would be buttoned up and ready. Came back 1 hour and 15 minutes later and it was the same no bed and bare walls (see pics). Then when we tried to discuss this with the owner he stated, "I'm on a conference call what do you want?" I asked him to get off the call, which he never did and talk to us, and he refused so we asked for a refund which he eventually did after we refused to leave until I had confirmed the refund with my credit card. The final straw was when I asked his partner if she would spend her vacation their and she flat out said no. The owners refusing to honor their own reservations messed our entire vacation, we had to find a hotel with Wi-Fi and find a new location for the week and try and replan our activities since most of them were built around staying at this resort. When we questioned why someone else was in our cabin the owner kept stating he had cancellations and had to move people around. This made zero sense because if there were cancellations, he could have put us in one of the cancelled cabins. He refused to give us any other explanations. They did offer to not charge us for the rest of the week if we took the cabin which would have still cost us close to 300 (the deposit) to stay in a cabin with holes in the walls (bugs could get in) and none of the outside amenities we paid for as part of the rental such as a grill or picnic table, when I mentioned this part I was told you can use one from another cabin if the people are not using it. Just beware of this business and know if you book through them, you may arrive and not have a place to stay in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, they will not honor reservations that they make.
