Eisenhower State Park includes most of Lake Texoma lakefront businesses that make up Oklahoma's…read moreshare of the biggest local lake in north central Texas, which is about an hour's drive north on TXHWY 377N, and a day sail from Gordonville's gorgeous and lively Cedar Mills Yacht, where my family lived during the weekends and holidays, often dining with the keen Bahama 28 yacht owned by North Texas State University's Dr. Bruce P. Foster. Our ragtag racing team included Bruce and Trudy's sons, Rob and Greg + a rotating volunteer from our home church, Trinity Presbyterian Church in Denton. Apparently, from certain times of the year, the sailing vessels known as Valiant Yachts produces various forms of sailing vessels, which are often shipped to every place in the world. I worked on the foredeck, raising the colorful and elegant spinnakers for sailing quite fast pointing down wind. I love the local scene of rural communities in the north Texas and Oklahoma region and the culture of our farmers and ranchers who cultivate their cash crops and send to the local markets in Denton, Dallas, Fort Worth and mid-cities. They have really nice nearby cabins along the peninsula where we stayed. There's a lot to do for the entire family, trail running, hiking, fishing etc. Plus it is a short drive up north offering the "we are not in DFW" vibe. It is worth checking out for sure!

The dog park is split into separate areas for large and small dogs. We let our dog run around for a few minutes and play with other dogs. Everyone seemed to be responsible about keeping an eye on their dogs.

We recently drove through Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge and did the self-guided audio tour…read moreavailable on their website. Entry to the refuge is completely free, and the tour was well-marked and easy to follow. The audio provided just the right amount of information to keep all of us -- parents and a 12-year-old -- engaged while driving. You can simply play the audio as you drive without needing to stop. The signage throughout the refuge is helpful for identifying different bird species. We didn't make it to the visitor center or explore any other areas this time, but we plan to on our next visit. If you're in the area and have a spare half-hour, we definitely recommend giving Hagerman a try!

Make sure to pay attention when coming off US 75, the entrance is on the right. Lots of tables, both cement and wooden in shaded areas with great views of the lake. No specific parking area, just pull off the road and park next to the table you want to use. No bathroom facilities, so know that. Can also be used as a walking area, but it will be shared with vehicle traffic, so watch for that. Next to Frontier Village and Texoma Livestock Expo.

This dam holds back the water of the Red River which separates Oklahoma from Texas. It's a huge beautiful lake and in years that see plenty of rainfall,water levels are high. To control lake levels and Red River flow these gates are sometimes opened. Great entertainment and a short drive from Dallas. Take a look!

The prices are great and for a tent camper we had a lot of room with a great view. The park closes its gates @ 10pm and I think that's what kept it safe and clean. The bathrooms are very clean, someone monitors them often. The beach area was just about 20 feet from our campsite. I'm giving it 4 stars because the beach are was a little messy with washed up flip flops, old folding chairs and stuff. Great family place- I would definitely recommend this for camping. (Please note, I do not have an RV but there were plenty of sites for these as well.)

This man said "and you expect me to know who your parents are?" I know now I should have just told him the campsite number but he could have just asked me for it instead of being an absolute jerk. I will add that the campsite is pretty.
