When one is dealing with Apple and the purchase/maintenance of their products, nothing is easy. Yet, then of course, once you have your computer/device, everything else in life is easier.
It is unfortunate that the true Apple Store doesn't exist in Mexico. In its absence, Mixup has started the iShop store chain. This chain of stores basically means to do exactly what the Apple Store does elsewhere. They only sell Apple and Apple-related products and they try to be showy with their stark white interior design. Unfortunately, iShop falls far short. The first major problem is that there is a markup on all Apple products, which is a problem because they are already quite expensive. Additionally, the Apple Store has their Genius bar with people who REALLY know their stuff. South of the border, the Service Desk at the iShop is adequate at best. Lastly, the decor of the shop does not make one feel comfortable. If you're going for that all-white stark-look, you can't have a dirty floor. Also, they're just not nearly as organized as the Apple Store. Oh, well.
We brought my wife's iPhone in for service (I had already diagnosed it with a bad battery,) and the service desk employee diagnosed it with a bad battery. Then they told us that Apple wouldn't replace that battery because we had bought the phone used and someone had apparently opened it before we ever owned it. First, I would point out that the iShop isn't really Apple, so why do they care!? I would have given them 1 star, but when we were about to leave frustrated, the employee suggested that we might want to go down to their mother-store Mixup and see if they "might be able to fix it." Of course, when we went to Mixup they immediately said that they could do it, as if they get the same request every day. While it is frustrating that an organization such as iShop would deny a simple repair request, I'm impressed that they clearly have a system for offering the same service in an under-the-table manner. An extra star for creative ridiculousness. read more
